Beautiful Davie. Mine always look like Dennis the Menace's dog Nasher.
Truly a master of fly tying. Mr Davie McPhail, you are indeed a legend to all of us that love to tie bugs.
I have been fly tying since the 60s and I learn something new everytime I watch one of your video's
Always nice to see those classics! Thank you for sharing. Keep it up!
simple yet beautiful, you have some of the best fly tying videos on yt, clear and straight to the point.
Best hares ear I’ve ever seen, perfect proportions from masterful dubbing, a sheer pleasure to watch as always. L 👍🎣👍
I reckon a video of tying bloopers over the years would be a rare laugh.
these videos have been my little bubble of oxygen for the last few years and beyond making fly tying fun you bring a bit of normality in to our lives
Brilliant Davie, one of my favourite flies to tie and fish👍🎣
Your dubbing technique is splendid. I've never looked back after adopting it from you many years ago. So in control with the amount, especially with the natural materials.
Thank you very much, again :)
A great wee fly Davie. Thanks for these little moments of calm and normality, have made a difference in these strange times.
Thanks for the lesson. The video quality is getting better and better.
The old classics always do the job and do it well. I do like these types of fly. Thank you for another smashing tie Davie. Keep safe. 😊
As usual another brilliant video from the master, the best hares ear nymph beyond doubt 👏👏 regards Jimf
So simple. Well, that’s what you make it look like. Amazing to watch you work. Thanks for showing us how it’s done.
Nice one Davie nice one and you as always you make it look so easy in a way to encourage fellow fly tiers, all the best you and family and stay safe Peter.
Great tie, as usual Davie. Making an old classic a bit more modern without overdoing it. Love your video. They help the experienced as well as the rookie tie better flies.
Beauty rendition of a classic pattern well done Sir as always
Another great display of excellent fly tying Davie and a great fly plus I never get tiered watching your videos 👍🎣
This is my primary may fly nymph. Varied colors to match the naturals. Thank you. 144 of these should be enough. Excellent as usual. You really are smooth and fluid in your tie.
I always enjoy watching Davie tie and listening to the lilt of his dialect. But what I especially liked about this video was the advice to "Have fun." It's easy to think of fly tying as labor and the fishing as fun, but as Davie makes clear, it can be a lot of fun tying too. Beautiful rendition of the Hare's Ear, Mr. McPhail. Thank you.
Hi Davie, spiky seems to be part of the perfect illusion of a living fly/creature. Wonderful. Thanks a lot and all the best. Peter
If only I’d had RUclips 50 years ago, Davie, you could have saved a lot of learning curve.
Thanks, Davie. A beautiful hare's ear nymph.
A great old Pattern, nice tied by you.
Thanks Davie 🙏😊😊😊🥰🙏
A wee fly to start off the fishing season in March 👍, u must be one of the greatest fly dressers of all time. I bought a vice when I was 15 years old and never really got into it. Football took over but I always had and will have a love for fly fishing. I regret not sticking at the fly tying!
I've never seen a fish stop and count anything either 😁👍 Very beautiful tie and excellent instructions as always Davie thank you.
Look so much like a real nymph, work of art, awesome.i will be trying to copy.truly fab Dave.
As always: great job! Beautiful fly.
Thank you davie much appreciate your help tightlines.
A perfect and realistic pattern. I will try to do it in the best possible way.Than you Master. it’sa pleasure to learn something every day with you.👏👏👍
What a great start to my snow and ice Monday. Love the classics. The Partridge is beautiful and maybe just the thing for gin clear water.
hate to be a pain but after researching the family tree I find my family to be the Laird's of Invernahyle. Do you know of any flies from this area. Not sure wheather they were fishing rivers or lochs. I know you are a fly historian and I love fishing the old flies. Especially the NC spiders. Funny that during the hatch the dry fly fishermen ask me what I'm using. They cant believe silk and a little hackle fools the Browns.
Another great video! Thanks Davie!
Thanks for the video Davie ! Our techniques are very similar for this pattern and almost time to start fishing them here in the states.
Nice nymph, clean, sharp, thanks Davie.
Thank you for yet another great vid!
i Love that fly its so down to earth and i learned a lot! Thank you!
Nice done Davie. I do like the look of the partridge variant. It looked a cracker. Oh by the way I finally managed to source a JC cape. It came in the post this morning.🎉 Thanks for the tips🎣
Definitely the best all-round nymph

Nice pattern Davie. Really good for chasing some brownies at the saisonstart!
Wow such a simple fly, that works better than most.a fisherman's fly/nymph. You make a fly look like a work of art.
Thank you😊
"Fish can't count" - Davie M. 2021
😂😂
Edited to correct date
Yeah, but even better: "... at least I haven't seem them count ..." - hilarious! Gosh, I love your tying videos, Davie!
Thanks Davie, nice one
Beautiful
Perfect!! As usual!!
This is one nymph everyone should have three or four in a couple of different sizes. One of the best flies that needs to be in your fly box. No doubt! The wire makes them sink nicely and the glint of the copper is perfect!
Awesome davy, tied some already for using in Pennsylvania, hope to use them sometime in the future on Linlithgow Loch.
I got a whole fly box that has nothing but Hare's Ear Nymph's in it. Of late I have gotten really lazy, I been tying and fishing an NZ variation called the Hare and Copper. It works really well here in CT. I tie them all in sizes # 14 down to a #20 size # 18 seem to work the best. The more they get chewed on the better they get, so I tie them a bit more shaggy. Natural and dyed Olive, same for my PT's petty much my most used nymphs. One of my favorite times of the year is going into fall, low water, and # 18 or # 20 on 6x or 7 x tippet, NZ strike indicator (white ) and sized to what a # 16 dry fly would be. Not uncommon for me to pick up 18 to 30 fish in an afternoon.
Nice one Davie thank you
Your fantastic...your dubbing alwys looks so much better than any of mine
that is pretty cool, thanks!
One of the best 👍🦟🦟🦟

Hi Davie, this is another amazing tutorial. I’m going to try it out this evening.
Thank you.
Guess you should call this one the "hare's tail" or the Pheasant Ear", as this incorporates the best attributes of the HE and the PT.
That my friends is talent!
Keep trying but cant get them like yours perfect. Ill keep at amazing work as usual
Absolutely love this one, great shape :)

All the very best Davie

💥👏👍🥂
Hi, I'm Ezequiel from PESCART Fly Fishing, I follow your RUclips channel, I live in Brazil and I would like to share your videos with subtitles in Portuguese so that Brazilians can get to know your work! do you authorize Davie macphail? att Ezekiel
Hi Pescart Fly Fishing,
What would you have to do to do this as I would like to help anyone as much as I can that would like to learn how to tye their own flies...
All the very best Davie..
🇨🇿CZ. 👀👍🏻 super 👍🏻👋🏻
Hi Davie would Adding a tungsten bead or lead wraps at the thorax make the fly swim in an unnatural way, putting off the fish?
Very nice. What size copper wire? You said "fine small" at 0:59 which is two sizes, and then at 1:08 UTC small & extra small???
Hi Anablak P,
I'm sorry the spool I have of this wire has no size on it but if you compare it to the UTC wire it is the same as the extra small....
All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Thank you sir. Keep on tying beauties.
Аккуратненькая👍🤝🇰🇿
