This had me rolling in laughter. I don't agree with the CBAT hate though...that album is highly underrated and better than the disappointing final album. And I can't believe I'm agreeing with Obama here, but CTE is most definitely S tier.
I have my own conspiracy theories about the DBX fiasco. I'm not convinced that noise reduction has anything to do with the bad sound on that record. I've heard an early mix of Black Friday that is supposedly from before the DBX noise reduction was applied and went bad, and the cymbals still sound awful. I'm thinking that the choice of cymbal microphones that they used has more to do with the terrible sound on that album than DBX. I think they even mention the cymbal mics somewhere in the liner notes. I'm going off memory here so I could be mistaken.
@@Cedric_HarrisPoint to Mr. Harris. It was the condenser microphones they used on the drum kit. Should’ve tried ribbon mics. Great tier list and one funny assed video.
@@Claytone-Records Two questions. Why does everybody still talk about DBX, when the original multitrack tape didn't have DBX on it and still sounds bad? And if it was because of the microphones being used, why didn't they change microphones? It really seems like they would have noticed.
I must be the only one that actually isn't offended by Katy Lied's sonics, weird DBX decay and all. I may or may not have acquired every single mastering for the album, including an MFSL Needledrop but still prefer the 99 digital remaster: it's bright, which is what the album needs.

It captured them at a stage where they were willing to be somewhat vulnerable in their songwriting, and Fagen really explored his Bob Dylan influence. It's still not a bad album with some fine songs, but it's best song would rank pretty far down my list of their top tracks.
As far as Fleetwood Mac, if you heard their earlier work ,e.g. "Bare Trees" when they were a true British blues rock band instead of a Hollywood hits factory, you might be pleasantly surprised.
At any rate, I got a real kick out of the video and appreciate you taking time to reply.
@@mikem3695 Nah, I don't think you were too harsh. I understand where you're coming from. I'm honestly kind of burnt out on Steely Dan at the moment because I've heard the songs so damn many times. And you're right I do like the early Fleetwood Mac, anything pre Stevie Nicks
