Well hip hop was the struggle. The public enemy and krs were the conscious political phase. The govt blackballed them and pushed incarceration influenced music to fulfill prison quotas. Music executives were the street team pushing killer kingpen get locked up music.
My Condolences to u and Turbo u r truly under rated! I truly believe u need to come out with a video again we miss u! 80's the?best times of our lives! God bless!
I’m in the middle of watching Electric Boogaloo and had to stop and come to RUclips to catch some behind the scenes stuff. This brings back so many memories. Turbo was way ahead of his time !!!!
Wow. You are very articulate. It was nice to get the backstory of your career success. Breakin and electric Boogaloo are 2 of my favorite movies of all time. I actually liked part 2 because of the pastels. I tried very hard to learn the routines at the end of part 2 and I did learn the routine of Paula Abdul dance sequence with the cat from "opposites attract"...I thought the choreography was amazing......lol......I was a teenager then. Anyway this piece was very enlightening and I enjoyed every second of it. Just a sidebar, when I had my curl back in the day, they use to call me TURBO.
Its unfortunate that Michael Chambers didnt get the recognition he so rightfully earned and was due. Its sad how many people over the years have taken credit for all the stuff he created and brought to the world. You can tell he is sadden by it but not bitter and has done good for himself with all his work over the years. He should of won awards and given the honors he deserves. 80's are still the best decade.
it's crazy cause i moved to LA in 83 from the Bronx and new NOTHING about West Coast Culture other than Soul Train and even then I didn't know that was West coast. But I learned Soooo much after living there for 15 years. WestCoast Had it's own HipHop culture and I Defend that Culture to the fullest. People thought NWA was like the first of West Coast Emcess and i'm glad that Shrimp gave props to Ice T and Kid Frost because they were like the main ones out there doin it.
When I was a kid I wanted to be like Turbo!!! Okay okay BG Shrimp. Real talk though. I remember us getting the movie from the video store and all of my family watching it on VHS!
Oh Wooooow..as an EMCEE..who started as a B-boy this answers all the questions I had when I was younger..I was screaming WE BEEN MOONWALKING...waaaaay before MJ..but when he did it...it solidified it for the world...but I knew some of those moves looked like U my G...you ARE B-BOYING...the Icon the OG...SALUTE
Man Michael I remember you going all the way back in Wilmington brotha (and your older brother). I always thought that you were the best at your trade. Good to see that you're still going strong.
Dam man I never thought about it but now that you point it out you can totally see the influence from your style on Michael. if you compare both of you at the same time your moves are a lot more cleaner smoother etc it’s like watching a teacher and a student. Glad I came across this
Mj did the robot way back in 1974.I agree mj didn't invent moonwalk but when he does that the magic pours out from his feet. The stage lits up..! As Michael Peters said 'He is a Dancer from his Soul'. Mj gave soul to those moves.
Dancing is an awesome form of art. Most dancers have a tough time earning a living unfortunately. Not much opportunity for residual income. This man appears to have a ton of joy in his heart and that is what life is about. Joy is far better than happiness.
I appreciate this video with a Legend and a Pioneer instrumental in 2 of the 5 or 6 movies that took Hip Hop from an underground treat we had to find on hard to find and little known radio channels that only came on a few times a week?To where it permeated almost EVERY aspect of our lives for the next 35 years.INSTANT CLASSIC
back when I was 16 on the run from totem in st. Pual , Minnesota I went down to Kansas' cita to look for my mom I stayed with my Aunt polkie we used to say that : "let's go chill down on the boulevard ". It be on 23 -that road that leads down the hill to free way that goes half way around the royal statium. I ran with los diablos back then. I used with a Chicano named turbo I wasn't really a diablo but they were coo with me. I was a gone in 60 in sixty seconds type guy. That was in 1986. I got out of state and sent back to Minnesota ,my mom dad and my grandma inlaw ( mom and dad) to me and my little brother at that time.
This a legend right here i could never match those movements where you stay i need an autograph gonna petition for a pop figure of the original pop lock legend
Wow amazing interview big ups because what hes saying is incredible and if people listen it rings true were all different but were on the same boat let's work together regardless of color.
Whats up kid I used to go to Floranteens and Club Hollywodd with Bobby and Ricky and yourself Shabs good times. I know you were a huge influence to the best Entertainer ever alive MJ. Love you and miss you. You look great! - Clint Remember I was the footwork dude at 321's in Santa Monica
pitts business I’m not a dancer. Turbo is unforgettable as well as MJ. If u study them both you’d see that MJ DEFINITELY took some solo freestyle pointers from him! He’s right MJ was remarkable and developed his style just as Bruce Lee did with other fighters. Same cloth! R.I.P. Shabba Do!
@22:00 I learned that That Infamous Footwork and whole routine and i took it to a club I used to go to Alot back in the late 1990s called "The Tunnel" in New York City and in a Dance Battle I started off just like Turbo and everybody went BONKERS and Started calling me Turbo after that Night......Which I was Honored! #GenX #Turbo #Ozone #ClassicBreakin #DayOnerz #7777🌟7️⃣*
Ppl watched playschool and sesame St growing up, I had a vhs cassette of breaking. Breaking movies were my life and turbo and ozone wwere my inspiration lol. Every now and then I take a walk back in time and revisit my childhood
Thanks Michael for breaking down the timelines and putting in order of what came out of what area. There have been fighting over who started what before who and this video brings it into focus. It shows how this area had this style, and this style came up from this place not this place... it really made sense when laid out...there will always be folks out there arguing bragging rights. But this video made the most of laying it all out without disrespecting any area or any groups ..again thank you Boogaloo Shrimp.. and RIP ADOLFO SHABBA DOO QUINONES, OG MASTER LOCKER, MASTEROF MANY STYLES, AND A MASTER OF A MAN...PROPS OUT TO "SPECIAL K" LUCINDA DICKEY. THE ELECTRO ROCK CREW IN THE MOVIE WHICH WAS, POP N TACO(BRUNO FALCO), POPIN PETE (TIMOTHY SOLOMON, ANA "LOLLIPOP SANCHEZ who was the only one to still play part of the Electro Rock Crew in the 2nd film..and thanks OTHERS LIKE ICE T, and many others who made yhe movies CULT CLASSICS. NOTE, IN THE FIRST BREAKIN MOVIE WHERE LUCINDA AND PHINEAS NEWBORN(ADAM) INTRODUCED HER TO TURBO AND OZONE DANCING AT THE BEACH. IF YOU LOOK IN THE BACKGROUND YOU WILL SEE JEAN - CLAUDE VAN DAMME WEARING A BLACK ONE PIECE WORKOUT UNITARD, HE IS IN THE CROWD AROUND TURBO AND OZONE MOVING TO THE MUSIC. ALSO SHABBA DOO'S WIFE LELA ROCHON was in the 1st and 2nd Breakin. And in the 2nd movie Sonny Bono from Sonny and Cher fame, his wife Susie (Coelho) Bono played Ozones ex girl friend Rhonda who always wanted to fight KELLY IN THE MOVIE.. One more thing I just found out, I saw the name in the cast of the 2nd movie. VIKTOR MANOEL who is known the world over for his knowledge of Punking and Waacking ans Jazz dance from back in the 70's on. He was in the 2nd movie dancing on the stage in the park with Turbo's soon girl friend. I believe another connection Viktor had with this film was thru Shabba Doo. Shabba Doo himself was a big contributor to Punking ,Waacking, Posing, he incorporated it into his own styles etc. He later toured with Madonna on Who's That Girl Tour. Putting together choreographing her shows, and dancing as her partner.. and she later came out with the song Vogue, and made Waacking, Punking, Posing into her idea of calling it Voguing for commerical purposes..so I would think Shabba Doo put the idea of this style as if you watch the tour video of the dance and then progressed into a song that made her alot of money. But without Shabba Doo's influence Madonna would not have came up on it.. on stage way before she was Voguing , he was dancing with her in shows and he was Waacking, punking, posing before she even knew what it was really about..
He looks fabulous too like he’s had a good Life has s humble spirit and his memories out of this world!! You earned my heart tonight ♥️ can’t seem to stop making comments smh!! 💕💋💋💋💋
Thank you all for your kind comments

Boogaloo Shrimp AKA Turbo the best freestyle pop locking breakdance I have ever seen in my opinion #Underrated
When dancing was the way of fighting and settling beef
He is and always will be a Hip-Hop cornerstone. Legendary doesn't even come close to describing his influence on culture.
Boogaloo a legend in his on right and more homage should be paid to him!!
Legend of popping right here. I copied all his moves when I was growing up. I actually thought he passed away. so glad I was wrong Great interview !!
Fantastic interview...a little trouble with audio that should’ve been corrected prior to dropping video but loved the videos!!
A very humble and down to earth gentleman. Bless you friend.
Boogaloo is a 🐐.. Influence is crazy, on dance, Michael Jackson, and most importantly Hip-hop.
You can tell that this vato is firme gente! Down to earth. Good person.
How does hip hop go from this to killing 30 people in 1 song? Rest in peace Hip Hop. Gone but not forgotten.😢😭
You Know How!!
:(
The evil record industry
This is true Hip Hop! That other crap is gangsta rap, and shouldn't be mentioned in the same category as Hip Hop!
Well hip hop was the struggle. The public enemy and krs were the conscious political phase. The govt blackballed them and pushed incarceration influenced music to fulfill prison quotas. Music executives were the street team pushing killer kingpen get locked up music.
Turbo was one of my childhood hero’s... The best to ever do it ... Thank you my brother for the amazing memories
It’s not about who was better, just different interpretations.

I’m in the middle of watching Electric Boogaloo and had to stop and come to RUclips to catch some behind the scenes stuff. This brings back so many memories.

Put this legend on dancing with the stars. People would say who is this guy. Turn him loose on the dance floor and they would know

When he danced upside down on the roof...🔥🔥🔥
When I was a kid I wanted to be like Turbo!!! Okay okay BG Shrimp. Real talk though. I remember us getting the movie from the video store and all of my family watching it on VHS!
We were practicing all of the moves once the movie was over.

Man Michael I remember you going all the way back in Wilmington brotha (and your older brother). I always thought that you were the best at your trade. Good to see that you're still going strong.
Love this man. All these kids still doing his moves years later.
2021 and I'm smiling because of all the memories rushing into my head from those days.
Mr. Chambers, you are a very entertaining story teller. I enjoy listening to you talk history. I’ve lived through all of that. Meow.
Stomp the yard. You got served..Michael Jackson Chris Brown Genuine Omarion Usher all took from this guy an that movie. Super legendary.
Nobody really got served they are all great at dancing. Whose better? Is subjective to everyone but hey 😟
Dam man I never thought about it but now that you point it out you can totally see the influence from your style on Michael. if you compare both of you at the same time your moves are a lot more cleaner smoother etc it’s like watching a teacher and a student. Glad I came across this
check out bob fosse v michael jackson
Mj did the robot way back in 1974.I agree mj didn't invent moonwalk but when he does that the magic pours out from his feet. The stage lits up..! As Michael Peters said 'He is a Dancer from his Soul'. Mj gave soul to those moves.
I'm glad you said that because he did the robot with his brothers. He stole the show lol
Much respect for representing the the Latino culture to this day my Brotha from anotha Motha!
This man is a legend!! My favorite movie of the 80s
On the east coast the puerto ricans had the moves and the brothers had the grooves. TURBO WAS that dude USA wide.
Legend... This art form would be absolutely nothing without your timeless contributions. 🙏🏽📻👟
Love this interview!!!!!!!
Dancing is an awesome form of art. Most dancers have a tough time earning a living unfortunately. Not much opportunity for residual income. This man appears to have a ton of joy in his heart and that is what life is about. Joy is far better than happiness.
they never get the love or props from all the "stars", who they've helped in many ways over the decades

SHABBA Doo and Boogaloo Shrimp 🍤 Icons
Moonwalk been around since the 50's
I never realized how nerdy Boogaloo Shrimp is. He can throw down on the dance floor though lol.
Its because he hangs around lots of Mexicans......He speaks with a latino accent.
Very good interview! Thankyou!
Legend! RIP Ozone
Man Turbo, when I saw you walk on the roof in breaking 2 you were always my favorite. I"m glad you had a great career brother.

The only thing missing was a mention of the Jacksons hit from 1974 - 'Dancing Machine' featuring their very early Robot locking routine.
