"Pristine rivers and lakes"... dont make me laugh... serious exaggeration in this clip. Anyone thinkin of coming to Ireland to fly fish.. don't bother... go to Slovenia instead .. immaculate rivers with superb visual fishing. Slovenia is also cheaper all round... irish rivers and lakes are finished ... what hasn't been polluted has been fished or netted out by those who dont believe in catch and release .. I have lobbied with my local club to stop the raw sewage into the boyne but it went nowhere... if not enough people care politicians certainly wont
@adebahn yeh but that's nothing like it used to be either. I have fished both rivers and lakes for over 50 years and the decline in both is staggering. And don't get me started now just about east euros killing everything in lakes and rivers but also netting the canals. It's a disgrace. As a young angler I only wish some day you get to fish the quantity and quality of fish I did in my young days.
@adebahn pollution is the least of your trouble lad. Until people stop killing juvenile fish and accept the fact that its illegal. Most of eastern Europe is fishless and we are heading that way. I'm too old to pussy foot around so I'll say it as it is... east Europeans dont give a fuck about stock conservations. I have caught more east euros pretending they cant read signs or speak English when I confront them about killing pike or fishing for salmon without a licence. Unless they change their attitude ireland will end up like the fishless country they left.
It's not all doom and gloom, there are lots of problems, but like you I have been fishing for over 50 years and three rivers near me have been fishing really well the last couple of years. I am in West Wicklow 5 miles from the Slaney and 5 miles from the Liffey, a little further south on the Wicklow Carlow border is the Derneen, a small river with an excellent head of wild trout and an very large average size for this type of stream. So not all is lost.
@@TheBdylan23 not all is lost is true. I still fish the boyne which is still good because it has good clubs all along it. Rivers like the Barrow has been decimated. There are no clubs on the upper barrow so no one to stop the east Europeans from raping it. I used to catch excellent pike and trout all along it, now that's gone. As are many of the small lakes in cavan. You shouldn't advertise what rivers are still good, unless you want unscrupulous visitors to clean it out. Trust me ...
I have to agree. I couldn't believe the Srah river which flows into lough mask is one of the top 6 most polluted river in the entire country. Lough mask is wrecked, the mayfly is gone at least in any good numbers. I have seen fishing declining rapidly over the past 25 years and I'm afraid to say all the talking in the world is not going to make it better. I am not so optimistic about the whole situation.
