This Time we take to the water on Lough Corrib to do some Mayfly Fishing, Lough Corrib is one of the largest lakes in Europe and one of the few lakes that you can fish for wild brown trout for free. I will be meeting my brother John, his wife Gay and my nephew Eoin down at the lake shore where we will get into one of our lake boats these wooden lake boats are hand built by a gentleman called Jackie Mon's who has being making boats for over 40 years....I will be doing another video where I will visit Jackie's workshop and see for myself the basics of building one of these wonderful boats.
Today however we take to the water to go Mayfly fishing this is the time of year where the Mayfly emerges from the bottom of the lake making it's way to the surface and it's during this time that the little Mayfly is at great risk as the brown trout love to eat them so they are eaten as they rise to the surface and also on the surface....My brother Arthur will be giving you more information about this during the video.....
We will be going out to an Island called Inchagoill this island was a monastic settlement and St Patrick's nephew is buried there we will be picnicking on the Island and meeting other brothers there to enjoy a chat naturally about fishing.......the waters around the Island are great for catching a trout so we will be hoping to bag one or two.
As a family we are very mindful about conservation and so operate a catch and release system and only kill a trout if we want one to eat so join us today and see for yourselves what it is like to go Mayfly fishing on Lough Corrib....
