Sacramento river flooding - Northern California. Effects of the Shasta dam spillway opened

Sacramento river flooding. For the first time in 19 years, the Shasta dams gates where opened to make sure they were working in case of an emergency. This is the result of it captured a bit further down the river.

testing the gates once in 19 years? seems to me they ought be tested yearly during the low precipitation period. would that be too much to be tasked?

Yeah, I guess they where scared by the incident with the Oroville Dam.
