Godiva not waking up (senile behavior?)

  • Please excuse how short her trim is, I'm having an issue with my longer blade not trimming correctly (think it was an issue with tension) so I had to use a #10 for this groom.
Godiva turned 12 on the 24th of this month (it is now the 29th). This is extremely unusual for her, she normally wakes up at the smallest noises and "want to go potty?" Is her absolute favorite word because it means we're going for a walk. Before filming I had already called her name about 5 times, watched for breathing, then waited to see if she was just going to take a bit to wake up. I decided I'd try a few more times then try touching her and was interested to see how she would respond upon waking up.
As you can see here she is very confused once she wakes up, I think she was as shocked as I was that she wasn't waking at the smallest sound like she normally does.
I know senior dogs due to senility will stop responding to their names as well and sleep more deeply with age, I am curious on if it was that or something else. The paranoid side of me wondered if her body is trying to shut down, people as they die from age often go into a coma before passing.
