@BeefieDude-wk1vo all I remember is that I had a Core 2 Duo as my processor and 6GB of RAM. That computer shipped with Vista. I COULD have done some optimization to make it faster, but for my needs at the time, I didn't think I would've benefitted from it that much, it was fast enough for me. Actually, the computer only got slower with each OS upgrade, yes, even the upgrade to Windows 7. It was pretty negligible, but I noticed it pretty immediately. It wasn't until Windows 10 that the computer genuinely became too slow to be used on a daily basis. But I had no other alternative at the time, so I just used it anyway (and no, I wasn't that enthusiastic about Linux back then, if not at all). But still, I had a lot of fun with Vista. And I feel pretty bad because very few people had a similar experience, mostly because they thought it was a good idea to cram such a memory hog onto their XP machine and deeply regretted it, at a time when the OS wasn't as good as when I first started using it, and then never thought of it again. Yes, Vista was indeed problematic at launch, but by the time it was fixed, nobody cared anymore. And to those people, Windows 7 was their first introduction to basically most of the features I got to experience first, it was basically a refined Vista, and everyone loved it (including myself).
Agreed. Microsoft should have waited until the end of 2007 at the earliest to release Vista. In 2006, people still were running Pentium 4s with 1GB of RAM. By late 2007, people started having PCs with 2 - 3 GB of RAM, and more capable CPUs like the Core 2 Duo E6850. This was back in era where one year still made a huge difference in tech advancements.

Yes Windows Vista had problems but I totally disagree it was all that bad. I had Vista Ultimate and loved the Dream scene feature. My computer at the time was high end at the time and found it ok.
Vista was a classic case of design-on-the-fly syndrome. Before the major 2004 development reset, you had one early build within the IE department, another within the media department, etc. and none of the design teams had ever talked to each other enough to make it what it was originally supposed to be. As a result, many of the features that were originally intended to make it were scrapped, while the UX team's goals were what won out. My C++ professor last semester always taught us about why coming up with an initial design first before even starting on the development, using flowcharts, pseudocode, and the like, is always important. Vista is what happens when you fail to follow this advice and jump into the development without first setting a design goal. It was still redeemable *if* you had the hardware necessary to properly run it, sure, and in that case it looked and felt fantastic, but to say that 2006 was a disastrous year for Windows as a result of this failure to properly design things would constitute a dramatic understatement.
