Coming from the future to respond to this - there is DEFINITELY something wrong with his ears, after releasing a great track like Duppy Freestyle. And immediately ruining the vibe by following it up with 'I'm Upset.'

Jungle was a low point for you??? That was my favorite track from the album and it wasn't even close. Drake is excellent at the Rap/R&B jams and this was one of his best in awhile.

Totally agree. I am far from a Drake fan, I had always found him annoying. I thought Take Care was pretty good but I found everything else underwhelming and I could never really get into listening to him. I finally gave the time to listen to IYRTITL recently and I genuinely like it a whole lot.

As time went by and it’s been 7 years later, if drake dropped this now in 2022 the album would still sound fresh. Definitely a timeless body of work. My favourite drake album/mixtape by far.

I love Anthony but when it comes to Drake it's pretty clear that he disguises personal distaste as objective criticism.
For further clarification, the whole point of Marvin's Room is that it is immaturity at its finest. So to use that against the song is kinda like saying a horror movie is bad because it's too scary.

When people like Lupe Fiasco and Eminem spit incredible and intricate verses he goes out of his way to try pinpoint one or two "corny" lines in the whole album...but then give props to Drake for a series of really mediocre lines? Okay...
This is problem with you hip hop fans on youtube. Theres more to music and being an artist than bars. "Oh my gawd, Eminem has punchlines about punching pop stars and can rhyme five syllables". Lets be honest, he hasnt had a great album since TES.

I just pointed out that Anthony shits on Lupe for having one corny line among hundreds of great ones, and congratulates Drake for stuff way weaker than that (and you can't say Lupe's latest album didn't have the full package or "more than bars").
Exactly...and that is the problem with Anthony, he's inconsistent and I'm not sure if he's really listening to the albums especially when the album came out that same day. Any one of Lupe's albums are ingenious and takes multiple listens but here comes Drake with his mainstream mediocre lyrics and it's a better album than someone intelligent like Lupe. I don't understand, but hey it's just his opinion right.
Because Drake has better flow than Em's had in over 10 years, and the entire album is better than 3/4ths of Lupe's discography. And Drake does drops some nice lines, and unlike Lupe and modern Em, he can switch up his delivery in a ton of different ways. And everyone gives Lupe credit like he's some kind of genius, when really he's just a slightly above average wordsmith who's unbearably pretentious about his hip hop skills. The thing is, Em and Lupe are selling themselves as lyricists and offering no other versatility. And they aren't really offering much at the only thing they're trying to do. Were as Drake is presenting himself as a rapper, singer, and pop artist and killing it by being competent and balanced in each aspect. The criteria for what makes a successful album isn't the same for Drake as it is for Em and Lupe, and it shouldn't be. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Reading your comment makes me question if you have heard any of Lupe's or even Eminem's albums because Drake can't touch both of them in any way as far as making music, the only thing Drake is good at is making a chorus and singing mainstream bs for the simple minded folks and females such as yourself. I rarely hear Lupe and Em on the radio, yet Drake is on 24/7 in like every single station non stop, what does that tell you? Especially when he's signed with Lil Wayne gtfo with that bullshit. The only reason people fall victim to Drake's music is because you don't have to think about his lyrics or read into his lyrics because any dumb fuck can understand it, yet rappers like Lupe, Em, Nas, etc, take multiple listens and even rap genius. Am I missing something here? Lupe just put out what was not only an album, but something that could potentially change the world one day. That got a 7, and this forgettable piece by Drake got an 8. There is definitely something wrong here.
Anthony fantano is one guy. This review is not going to change anything in the world at all. You'll still like Lupe more, it'll still be great to a lot of people. One guy's opinion cannot change that..

Except Anthony has thousands of subscribers that will be on the Anthony wagon and listen to anything he recommends, for example in his Tesuo & Youth review he mentions that the song 'Deliver' was kind of corny not sure his exact words but he used that as a way to critize the album yet 'Deliver' had like triple entendre, obviously he missed that point of the whole song 'Pizza man don't come here no more' was also a play on word for 'Peace of man don't come here no more', i guess my point is is that Lupe speaks the truth and never talks about money, hoes, etc. yet Drake, a mainstream rapper who is known for selling out gets a better album score and not to mention this is considered a mixtape as well.

he doesn't score these albums by how it compares to other rappers albums he compares them by the artists previous work the artists growth or lack of
thats why MBDTF has a lower score than this MBDTF was worse than graduation so it got a lower score but IYRTITL was better than drakes previous record so therefore it gets a better review

Sam Hayslip he didn't like MBDTF cause he found Kanyes personal drama which he felt inspired the album uninteresting leading to him giving it a lower score even though it's objectively his best album
He scores albums on how much he enjoys them. That's it. Those aspect probably do influence his enjoyment but those aren't necessarily guidelines he follows. He simply rates highly if he really enjoys the project and rates low when he doesn't.

It would've been more fitting if If you're reading this it's too late and views swapped places chronologically. I feel that this album keeps the whole 6 concept much better than Views. Views is just full of dance anthems that are all over the place.
