The first time they formed Voltron is one of the greatest moments in animation history. Because back then you never saw anything like it, and you knew that you were witnessing something very special.
As a child I watched this and marveled. Now as an adult with responsibilities and children to raise I still find myself thinking about forming blazing swords from my hands. What a great cartoon.
When it comes to animation the Japanese are the authority on the subject. That feeling of watching the lions merge into Voltron still sends shivers down my spine. Even after all these years.

On the Death Battles RUclips page, one video, they set up Voltron vs. Power Rangers. "In the final fight, Voltron got into trouble, but Pidge and his courage wound up winning the fight". (Won't spoil the video, should see it).
More like Voltron brings an inspiration of the megazords we knew today. As most megazords in the Sentai series before Voltron, they were just transforming vehicles or just giant robots from the start without forming together. But after Voltron, that's when the Sentai series pretty much start to pull out something similar and it sticks with the Sentai/power rangers afterwards.
Man how much anyone wants to bet back at the Castle of Lions Allura and Coran were watching this on the monitors with Allura crying tears of joy thinking 'Oh Father if you could see this the Mighty Voltron has returned' and with Coran probably thinking 'It's a Miracle the King of Robots is back'.

Both shows were part of the Sentai genre, so they tended to stick to the same old tired formula: a team of 3 or more (with 5 being a common number) young heroes (superpowers were optional), color-coded for easy identification, with leadership usually falling to either ''black'' or ''red''. There were a ton of shows that all followed this same cookie-cutter template, so (naturally) they all look alike.
The Decepticons, Megatron in particular got the idea of combiners from somewhere. True, he doesn't think much of flesh creatures as he calls humans but does recognize a good idea when he sees one. The Autobots of course followed suit

It was the Hulk Hogan legdrop of cartoons back then. Even folks who didn't watch the show knew it was over as soon as the sword came out. Form blazing sword = your presence in this episode is no longer required...
Unlike the Power Rangers, the Voltron Force doesn't waste time to use their robot as an instant solution to deal with the monsters they face, probably knowing it would it things much quicker instead of messing around fighting on the ground at first unless absolutely necessary (like when Keith has to fight Lotor head-on when he was caught off guard before he could get to his lion).
Why can't hollywood make a movie of Voltron? If they (michael bay) can make a movie of Transformers, he should be able to make a Voltron live movie. I gaurantee Voltron will be better than Transformers!!!! Can't wait!

We Gen Xers had the BEST cartoons ever! We had Voltron, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Spiral Zone, and Masters of the Universe. Kids today have ....."Peppa pig", "Sponge Bob", and "Paw patrol".

No other director will use the original cartoon as the sole means of story material as they will attempt to put theirselves into the story, making a potential movie suck. The only way that won't happen is an ironclad, unbreakable, set-in-stone, forbidden to even make a suggestion to the contrary clause in the contract stating the 1984-1986 cartoon is the sole material for story, canon, all ancillary items. Also an overseer of some kind to mask sure they comply. Such a contract would have to have dire consequences if violated. Example :Any attempt to circumvent, change, defy, suggestion to try anything to contrary to the above provision constitutes violation of the contract and triple damages, the immediate termination of the project and rights revert to original owners. No established director, producer or film company will sign that kind of contract but it would protect a potential movie. An unknown director and independent film company might.

Yeah, however it is not only Voltron's greatest Strength, but his greatest weakness....When he forms the sword, all of his energy/power abilities are placed into it. So it's known as his Last Resort because none of his other abilities are avaliable.

You know it's funny that every time I see the classic Voltron and watch that part where they unite the lions and form the mighty robot whenever the combining sequence is completed and you hear Voltron become energized when you hear that it's the same sound effects of the weapons fire of the Martian War Machines from the original War of the Worlds man that was quite surprising to say the least.
For me, it was 1986. I will never forget the day I saw those lions fly into the sky in an attempt to form Voltron. As a cartoon, it shaped my childhood, and so many others too.
Every time I watch anything of my Childhood cartoon wise, I always smile. Especially anything Voltron Related. 47 now, and I still love the music the sound of the roars from the lions. I always got hyped as a child when they formed their sword. Still remember owning the toy. Die cast metal blue and Yellow lions. Made that toy so heavy. Lost my shit when my cousin dropped my blue lion and the stomach split open. Not going to lie I punched my cousin that day. I really also became a doctor to fix my toy. lol
This transformation during that generation was probably equivalent to when Goku first bcame a Super Saiyan and Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan 2. It was just epic for that generation because up until that point, it was unique. There wasn't anything like it. It was something we had never seen before. I just remember the hoopla that this caused in school the very next day. Everybody was talking about it, the school girls and one of my school teachers talked about it too. Man!... That's just good times, right there.
Man just seeing the look on the face of that first Robeast the team fought after bringing Voltron back when the Robeast saw Voltron man the look on his face was priceless it was like he was thinking 'Man I am so seriously screwed'.

For me, it was 1986. I will never forget the day I saw those lions fly into the sky in an attempt to form Voltron. As a cartoon, it shaped my childhood, and so many others too.

Every time I watch anything of my Childhood cartoon wise, I always smile. Especially anything Voltron Related. 47 now, and I still love the music the sound of the roars from the lions. I always got hyped as a child when they formed their sword. Still remember owning the toy. Die cast metal blue and Yellow lions. Made that toy so heavy. Lost my shit when my cousin dropped my blue lion and the stomach split open. Not going to lie I punched my cousin that day. I really also became a doctor to fix my toy. lol

The music, the sound effects...sweet nostalgia.
This transformation during that generation was probably equivalent to when Goku first bcame a Super Saiyan and Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan 2. It was just epic for that generation because up until that point, it was unique. There wasn't anything like it. It was something we had never seen before. I just remember the hoopla that this caused in school the very next day. Everybody was talking about it, the school girls and one of my school teachers talked about it too. Man!... That's just good times, right there.
