This is for the people in the comments who believe Musashi hated long swords, he did not, he was against short swords, since they made you fight in a more defensive and cautios way, and swords that are too long for you to wield with out effort, he believed that you should be able to use your sword with two fingers and that if you have the strenght to use a sword longer than usual it would be an advantage. Lets not forget, one of his greatest, if not the greatest, rivals used a really long sword and he did not defeat him with a shorter sword, he used a LONGER stick to take away his reach advantage, he believed in preparation, strategy m, adaptability and playing with the mind of your opponent above all things.
& he wasn't actually against short swords as well. what he simply meant was that THOSE who rely SOLELY on reach & nothing else, lack finesse & rely pretty much on intimidation & hitting real hard--shit that work well somehow in certain situations, but backfires when your opponent somehow managed to get close. what he did on the wind scroll is pointing out the flaws, & by the extension, psychology, of schools relying exclusively on certain types of weaponry.
PochocloEn3D Musashi disliked the mindset of the schools, not the weapons. Training with certain weapons solely for their structural advantage is nonsensical because fight situations are not always in your favor. Musashi's Way is being able to win in any environment, with whatever tools you have available, this could be a long or short sword, or even a wooden fence picket.
skywolf23 yeah I got the impression that he meant not overly rely on a swords extra length but to learn to kill with any sized blade . good advice if you ask me
+skywolf23 In that duel with Sasaki Kojiro, Musashi carved his spare oar from boat (which he used to travel to duel) into a suburito, which is heavy and thick bokuto used in strength training. But other than that, do we really have evidence that he used wooden swords as his main weapons? I think not, that this example was just an one situation.
I think Musashi wanted to say that the type of weapon isn't important (too many people tend to think it is), a warrior will use whatever he can to this one goal: to kill the enemy by any means possible. If all he has is a long sword, he will use it, if all he has is a short one, he will use it. A skilled warrior will master many kinds of weapons.
Awesome video. The photography was beautiful and the tone was mysterious and mildly unsettling, very well done! I always loved how intimidating Samurai armor was, and this video captures that idea perfectly.
Hi @Metatron, i'm not sure if you're the right person to ask, i just discovered your channel yesterday and have seen a bunch of videos. First of all i wanted to say that i love your work, i'll for sure keep following your upcoming videos and see others that you made in the past. Now, i've been watching "Vikings" the tv show that i suppose you know, and i got really into it, i've been reading a lot of stuff about them (that's how i found this channel) and that made me ask some questions about my actual country, Poland. I was thinking: Are you gonna ever do a video or a series of videos about Slavs, their history, customs and mythology? That would be so great. Anyway again, love your work keep it up. Peace!
The cutting of wind, is a delicate art form. It must not be done in unrest, nor for comfort, but to no other end then one's own well being. Wherever you be, let your wind go free.
This is now one of my favorites videos of all time, beautiful and the most important, a real look from someone who really killed in battle. Directly to my favorites list.
The creator who has the abillity to present his content or work, in a way that attracts even those who aren't interested in this specific content is an artist. A gifted person that can win the hearts of his audience. A magnificent video. Thank you very much Rafaelo.
Metatron you knock it out of the park everytime man. Im not easily impressed but Goddamn your commitment and knowleddge to our obscure and forgotten art is humbling. Thank you for your time and effort you put into your videos.
Have you ever considered making a video about Miyamoto Musashi's life and such? I would be very interested in learning more about him as I'm sure other would be as well.
I saw the whole thing thinking you had finally reached your magnum opus of intros. realized it was not an intro when it ended. Was not dissapointed. thumbs up
Man, that camera work is top knotch. You seriously found yourself a great artist there. something else occurs to mean with your reading. Musashi would have approved of the roman legion. Men with short swords that did their killing up close and rarely ever ran from battle.
is it true that a lot of pieces of samurai armor are made from paper and/or silk embedded in glue? kinda samurai kevlar, because of the strong, but yet light fibers?
Its not a critique, I'm just poking fun for when you said you love drama in one of your videos and because this one had significantly higher, should i say production quality =)
Hey Metatron , while watching this cool sequence and because of its foggy mysterious atmosphere I thought about the forgotten "Mountain warriors" of Japan the Yamabushi! Since am not an expert on the topic I didnt find a lot of information about them like their fighting styles, Armor, particular weapons or a particular way of life. I think there are many types of Japanese warriors but usually people only hear about Samurais and Ninjas. So I think it would be a great idea to make a video about the Yamabushi. Also really love your content always unique and interesting keep it up!
Great video! I love the presentation overall. The quoting as you did in step with the video. The environment with the wind and fog. The cinematic crew did a spectacular job. The wind turbines are a mix for me. The blades movement is a hit, but too modern in the video. I would love to see more of these types of videos though! Definitely my favorite channel to watch and learn from!
There's a story going around that Musashi supposedly got his inspiration for his fighting technique from the Portuguese, whose dagger and rapier technique inspired his technique of katana and wakizashi
I wanna know way more about Musashi, did he wear armor in duels and what in warfare. Were his dual-wielding swords one long one small or both long swords?
Does anyone know where he got that katana? I've been looking for one with a white ito but a black saya all over the place but unfortunately to no avail
love this video but I feel it would look more cinematic if the shots where the focus is on the wind were filmed in slower motion. Its a common trick to appear more fortified as you did move back and forth and were unsteady as humans naturally are
I picked up the Book Of Five Rings a long time ago thinking it had to do with physical rings, I was wrong and lost interest quickly, but seeing this and the water one makes me want to actually read it.
If you are a serious practitioner of the martial arts it is invaluable in my experience. Although it is very abstract, if that does not appeal to you you may not find it interesting.
I personally thought that the actual video was cheesy and relatively generic, but the content itself very fascinating and intriguing. Overall a pretty good video, but with some elements that I think you could work on (really just the video/editing of the video). Also: who disliked this already? This came out what, 25 minutes ago?
Great video man! I was wondering if you can make a video about the differences and similarities with Musashi and and maybe Fiore De Liberi or some other European sword master?
Hi Metatron! Do you use compression on your vocal tracks? I noticed a fair bit of volume disparity in parts of the video, and you were sometimes overpowered by the music. It's a simple process with very little to learn if you don't, however, I understand that adding gain to a quiet track and sometimes be detrimental. Other than that, another lovely video! Thanks for the knowledge!
Metatron, gorgeous video, educational & entertaining. Hope you didn't get cold. I have an off topic question. What is the proper pronunciation of Asahi beer? I think I have been mis pronouncing it for 30 years.
Have you ever considered doing a comparison of musashis teachings to what is taught in hema like Liechtenauer or Meyer? E.g. Musashi discribes to aim for something we know as being strong in the bind/gaining overbind if certain Situations present itselves
Sword fighting and it's Budo, is not for the faint of heart. The Japanese culture has influenced me so much, as an American; but, being a swordsman entails so much commitment and culture. There is always purpose in life. Look and see how few are the Masters that made it alive to old age and invested in giving Wisdom to others, as to the ones who died. Combat is sad, whether you win or loose" said the Wise priest. All hype is authored by fools, not by the wise. Mr. Musashi represents the ones who made it through to tell others. Sword or knife combat is not for the faint of heart.
I know this video is quite old already, but correct me if I'm wrong: Wasnt Miyamoto the name of one of the major Clans during the Sengoku Jidai period? So that would mean that on Japanese names, the clan name comes before the person's name? For example, Miyamoto Musashi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Oda Nobunaga?
Holy shit! This is amazing! Raf-sensei, you've outdone yourself. Also... From reading the books and listening to these videos, I can see that Musashi was a fucking psychopath. hahaha
I wouldn't say he's against them. Since you know, he's known for duel wielding the katana and wakizashi
when will Metatron become the first italian Avatar?
think about the cycle : water, earth, fire, air and pasta....
guitarlover1204 pasta, the fifth element
if you think about it you need all of those elements to make pasta... pasta, the one element to rule them all.
guitarlover1204 It all started when the Pizza nation attacked.
can't wait for the pasta scroll video, its bound to keep me from sleeping because of the fear it will induce.
Sergio Leone would be proud.
You have to admit though that reading Musashi's thoughts on extra long swords while holding a nodachi was pretty funny.
skywolf23 yeah I got the impression that he meant not overly rely on a swords extra length but to learn to kill with any sized blade . good advice if you ask me
+skywolf23

Think of it as akin to Yasuo. He akin to Haoumaru is a possible Musashi expy, and he also technically wields a nodachi
And the fact that he is being theatrical as hell while quoting Musashi's disdain for the theatrical foolishness of other schools.
I really am liking these scroll videos
I'm glad you are, I will continue this series.
+Metatron
Since when does your menpo lack a mustache?
Awesome video. The photography was beautiful and the tone was mysterious and mildly unsettling, very well done! I always loved how intimidating Samurai armor was, and this video captures that idea perfectly.
Heck if he made a movie i would watch it, i would totally give it a chance.
Takeda mon
More Books of five rings videos please. this was beautiful.
To learn swordsmanship has always been to kill.
Any swordsman, real or fictional has had to preach this.
I like how Metatron has such good friends who help him with this.
Fantastic video I felt a very deep and mysterious tone from it
Thank you very much

hey Megatron which of the five elements is your favorite? divine, fire, air, water, or earth?
metatron was autocorrected lol
+gkneez1 I found your typo to be unreasonably amusing.
Well, vehicles obviously....
pasta obviously
megatron LMFAO
Yes! Someone to summarise musashi's books was just what I was looking for.
WOW the picutures, the musik, the voice ---> the atmosphere. Just a brilliant peace of artwork. Hope this series goes on.
The cutting of wind, is a delicate art form. It must not be done in unrest, nor for comfort, but to no other end then one's own well being. Wherever you be, let your wind go free.
I love the shots taken in a typical hot summer day in pianura Padana
Beautiful scenery. That fog looked amazing.
Metatron, you have to do a movie. This video , while short, shows a gift for cinematography. It echoes some of the best scenes in many classic films.
It hardly ever gets that foggy where I live. Pretty cool. Oh, and the armour is nice too.
Very eerie
I'm loving these scroll videos, they're baddass
I'd say that was very pleasing to listen to, was visually aesthetic as well.
Metatron you knock it out of the park everytime man. Im not easily impressed but Goddamn your commitment and knowleddge to our obscure and forgotten art is humbling. Thank you for your time and effort you put into your videos.
the wind effect is very Kurasawa - very effective - I like it a lot.
Wow, what an epic Video!
I really like the pictures and the way how they work with the words. Just great!
Have you ever considered making a video about Miyamoto Musashi's life and such? I would be very interested in learning more about him as I'm sure other would be as well.
Half expected Metatron to appear from out of the frame and someone else to be in the Takeda armour! - Great teamwork -
- Nice Sea Fret by the way
This is a wonderful work of art you have crafted, i feel inspired to make my own thanks to you.
This was really cool, I think I'm going to actually read this book now instead of letting it collect dust on my shelf
O_O
This was great. I really love the Book of the Five Rings, and this is an awesome way to take it in. My SO liked it as well.
I saw the whole thing thinking you had finally reached your magnum opus of intros. realized it was not an intro when it ended. Was not dissapointed. thumbs up
When will you do a video about the Elder scrolls?
I enjoyed the composition and editing; interesting images and pacing for the words, thanks!
I'm glad I found this channel
I hadn't noticed this video before for some reason! I'm glad I saw it now, very artistic!
Dude Musashi doesn't like your sword you have to sell it now. Sorry.
You just cant resist the dramatic approach to your videos can you
It's Musashi, man. It must be treated with reverence. The guy is a martial arts God in terms of lore and legend.
It's my style, why resisting to my own style on my channel?
Its not a critique, I'm just poking fun for when you said you love drama in one of your videos and because this one had significantly higher, should i say production quality =)
Thank You, well done. I missed some of the words because of the music being a little loud but I really like the over all feel it gave.

Hello. Now that Jiri from the UFC mentioned the book of five rings, could you please make a full video on it? Much appreciated
amazingly shot video Metatron :D
I love this video! I really hope you gonna make more of these. I used some clips from this for my video about Musashi. I hope thats ok!
Wonderful presentation Metatron.
This is going to get a million views. If it doesn't that would suck. It's amazing. I'm sharing it.
Thank you very much Kjartan :)

Definitely my favorite channel to watch and learn from!
Thank you so much for this - I love reading Musashi and you did it beautifully.....
I liked your video, wow nice armor! Musashi the greatest duelist of our time. At least that we know of.
Love these videos. Can't wait for void scroll.
ah, I get it. thank you for clarifying that metatron. love your channel.
Nice video. The photography reflects a classic samurai film.
Excellent! Would you maybe do a breakdown of what Musashi was saying here?
You should make a film or documentary about samurai, this video was awesome!
Wow, video fantastico, complimenti a tutti per la produzione!
There's a story going around that Musashi supposedly got his inspiration for his fighting technique from the Portuguese, whose dagger and rapier technique inspired his technique of katana and wakizashi
great video, inspirational, props all around.
hi, can u do a video about the Cagayan battle and others encounters beetwen europeans and samurais?
Both awesome and pretty. Therefore, it's pretty awesome.
Such a good production
I wanna know way more about Musashi, did he wear armor in duels and what in warfare. Were his dual-wielding swords one long one small or both long swords?
Very impressive cinematography! I'd love to see more like this!
Does anyone know where he got that katana? I've been looking for one with a white ito but a black saya all over the place but unfortunately to no avail
I could tell you had so much making this!
love this video but I feel it would look more cinematic if the shots where the focus is on the wind were filmed in slower motion. Its a common trick to appear more fortified as you did move back and forth and were unsteady as humans naturally are
Awesome photography!
What about the earth and heaven scrolls?
loving these
I guess someone was bragging to Musashi in euphemisms "My sword is much bigger than yours!" and then he felt compelled to write a rebuttal.
I would love to see another one come out. The other scrolls are brilliant, as well.
How have I only just found this this is epico
Awesome video. The music is fantastic too!
Dove diamine l'hai trovato un luogo con la nebbia vicino Palermo??
I picked up the Book Of Five Rings a long time ago thinking it had to do with physical rings, I was wrong and lost interest quickly, but seeing this and the water one makes me want to actually read it.

Very good, I like this series.
Nice video! Just subscribed! I plan on getting the book of five rings ... sounds like a good read!
I personally thought that the actual video was cheesy and relatively generic, but the content itself very fascinating and intriguing. Overall a pretty good video, but with some elements that I think you could work on (really just the video/editing of the video).
Also: who disliked this already? This came out what, 25 minutes ago?
Probably those disappointed he didn't perform his usual pop-up-from-below act.
wonderful. thanks.
Very well done Metatron.
I may have missed it if he said it in the video but is Musashi's fighting style called the two Heavens technique or did I make that up in my head?
Epic Images! Awesome Armor! Beautiful Weapon! Grat Content!
Great video man! I was wondering if you can make a video about the differences and similarities with Musashi and and maybe Fiore De Liberi or some other European sword master?
Anyone knows how to get metatrons attention on a few rare videos of nodachi usage demonstration ?
miyamoto was a psychologist and had less rules so metatron ur vid is quite sweet + that bushi but
miyamoto lived the way of war
Metatron, is there a chance that you could d a video on mushin? I mean is it possible to attain or was it a spook story told around the campfire?
Hi Metatron! Do you use compression on your vocal tracks? I noticed a fair bit of volume disparity in parts of the video, and you were sometimes overpowered by the music. It's a simple process with very little to learn if you don't, however, I understand that adding gain to a quiet track and sometimes be detrimental.
Other than that, another lovely video! Thanks for the knowledge!
Please continue these!
Awesome video man, very well done. I rather enjoyed it.
Please make series for reciting warrior poems and codex and manuscripts
Metatron, gorgeous video, educational & entertaining. Hope you didn't get cold. I have an off topic question. What is the proper pronunciation of Asahi beer? I think I have been mis pronouncing it for 30 years.
Epic as FUUUUCK! Awesome video man!

Great video, please make videos about the rest of the scrolls

Your video compliments Musashi’s words most eloquently...
