The tutorial worked perfectly. My new screen functions perfectly as well. It took me a lot longer than some have reported, but I took my time, laid out every screw and piece as it was removed, and perused the video repeatedly to get small hints that were glossed over such as exactly how to reinsert the assorted cables and such. Very careful every step of the way and the results were exactly as I had hoped. I might add that I did indeed order my new screen from Parts-People.com an it arrived within 48 hours of ordering. I spoke to customer service prior to placing my order on line due to a wee bit of confusion on my part as to just exactly what to order. They could not have been more helpful and actually saved me from making a hugh mistake in my order. They saved the day in more ways than one and I am indeed grateful. Thank you Parts-People and continued success!
Thank you for posting this, I repaired my laptop and I am feeling very proud of myself! My next computer endeavor....build my own desktop computer...!!!!!!
Awesome video!! only thing i ran into was when i put the palm rest in the clip for the keyboard connection was back and i broke it off but luckily it didn't break it just popped off. make sure its down before you put the rest back on lol But, Awesome video thank you so much!!! took me all of 20 minutes total!!!!
great video but you can do it much easier by just removing the bezel, taking out the 4 lcd frame screws, and gently prying the outter frame for the grommets to slip passed. Thanks though you gave me the info i needed.
This video will guide you precisely through the steps needed to replace the LCD. The only things to note are that you will encounter tape holding the LCD cable to the LCD (or at least I did), double sided tape holding the bezel (as well as clips), and I recommend gathering the screws you remove in separate containers as you go, as they are not all the same. I snapped off a couple of the bezel clips (they are small as delicate) but there enough around the perimeter that it didn't matter -- it all went together fine in reassembly.
I have the 3D 7720 17r se with the glass broken from a toy toss by my son, do I buy the entire LCD and does it need to specify 3D? Also, how do I find out if it's HD+ or FHD? I don't know what screen to buy aahhh! Thanks
You shouldn't need to specify 3D. You can look up the type of screen and screen part number at support.Dell(dot)com, using you service tag. Here are some links that will help with looking up your screen. blog.parts-people.com/2012/10/31/finding-lcd-screen-part-numbers-and-specifications/ blog.parts-people.com/2012/11/01/navigating-support-dell-com-to-find-your-laptop-specs-and-part-numbers-using-your-service-tag/
What's the difference between glossy and mattt? All these screens in the link are for 5720 or I should buy the screen with the same code from my old screen.
Glossy has a shinier finish and Matte does not. Its more of a flat finish. You will need to know if you have an HD+ or an FHD screen. As long as you replace it with the same resolution you should be fine.
Parts-People.Com, Inc the inspiron 5720 default display HD+ has very poor colour and contrast rendition. I was hoping if I bought the FHD that it would be compatible and also have better colour gamut. Is this not the case? Will the FHD not work with my laptop because the original screen is HD+?
Flukeson A FHD screen will work on the 5720. Unfortunately I don't have a list of compatible part numbers but I am certain there are FHD screens that will work.
You're not the only person with that issue. I've sent my wife's 5720 into Dell for Warranty 4 times, and still flickers. HHD was replaced, motherboard twice, and LCD. And Dell never offered to replace with new machine as they advertise when selling their extended warranty. I've contacted the Better Business bureau, since Dell doesn't want to do anything
Double check the LCD cable connections, a loose connection could cause a power on problem. If that doesn't work hook it up to an external monitor, there might be a problem with the screen.
After all these years, I have to replace the screen on my 7720 and this has been super helpful. Thank you!

Parts-People.Com, Inc Thank you very much for your reply, hopefully I can find out somewhere.

I have found one part number that I know is compatible. N173HGE . It might give you an idea of what to look for.
thanks a lot!
Hi... can i use screen model GN36T (3D) in a motherboard with LVDS port if i use LCD Video Cable K2M54 instead 7JFX4 cable?
As far as I know, it will only work with the eDP cable (7JFX4) and the 3D vision compatible motherboard (MPT5M).
hello...can i use this screen to my asus x75v ? thank you
I couldn't tell you. We specialize only in Dell laptops.
thanks....
on my 5720 the screen flickers to the right cant find out why

+Myk H the BBB probably has a damn task force assigned to Dell, Inc.
Myk H problem solved replaced HD
I just replaced this and followed your steps and my screen is plain white. I can hear Windows start but screen is white.
Directions worked well, but I suspect I accidentally had a bit of static as the computer won't power on.
