This is fantastic!! Thank you so much. I'm going to Germany in a few weeks from Cape Town South Africa, but I have a 2hr stop in Schiphol and I was very worried. Then I will come back home through Schiphol too
hello! I am flying helsinki-amsterdam and onto america. my transfer time is 50 minutes to an american flight. do you think i will make it? I am super nervous. i am landing to amsterdam around 8am march 8th, will it be crowded then? i only bring hand baggage so i do not have to worry about that.
If no delays or other issues, you should be fine :) You only have to go through the passport control. If there are queue at the passport control, and you running late, contact the ground staff there, and tell them you are late. They will then check your boarding pass and if you are late for your flight, they will let you pass the queue.
hii, thank u for making this video! I have a question about my transit. I'm flying from the USA to Dubai and I have a stop in Amsterdam. Will I only be in the non-schengen part of the airport? And do I need to go through passport control or security? I don't need a transit visa right?
Correct, you will only do the transit in the non-schengen area. You don't have to go through passport control, but there will be security control. You don't need visa for transit as long as you stay inside the airport.
@@JustinThailand Thank you so much! Is there any chance you know something about transit visas in the UK? I have a connection in Manchester and I'm not sure if I need a transit visa.
Normally, you don't need transit visa, as long as you stay inside the airport. But I'm not sure about Manchester and UK. You can find some info here : www.gov.uk/transit-visa/visitor-in-transit-visa
Hi there when you get to gate F2 you give them klm document which one is that and did they give to you that at your first destination or did you have to print it yourself? thanks
Hi Justin … I’m traveling from Kenya to Frankfurt with a 2hour layover in AMS …which area will I arrive at? N will it be confusing for me? Kindly advise
You'll arrive at non-Schengen and will need to pass a passport and security filter into the Schengen-area. Just follow the gate signs, you'll be fine. Two hours is perfectly doable 👍
Hi, that’s so helpful, thank you! Just to check: if I arrive from a Non-Schengen country and have to transit through Schiphol to go to another Non-Schengen country, I don’t have to go through passport control? Thank you!
@@JustinThailand Your video is a light for those who haven't been at the Schipol airport. I'm traveling from US to UK and my connection flight is there!!! 😁 Thank you so much!! ❤
Hi, I'm going to Aberdeen in Scotland from Bologna Italy with KLM transfer Amsterdam, and it only takes 1 hour 1:10 minutes for the transfer, is it possible? and where should I go to which gates? I will only have hand luggage. thank you for your answer.
I'm doing a flight from Billind in Denmark changing here to fly back to Aberdeen in 3 weeks time and from what I've read if you walk slowly the time is 40 mins. I have 45 minutes to get through security and passport control but I'm gonna do whats suggested and if time is tight ask for help at these check points to ensure I reach my gate in time. My guess is they won't sell a flight with a short lay over time if it's impossible to get connecting flight
Hi, I will be travelling to India from Canada via Amsterdam, I have a layover of 2.30 hrs, is it sufficient considering current situation ,also will i need to go through security check again?
Yes, you will have to go through security control, but not passport control. Regarding the chaos these days, i have no information regarding this since i havent travelled through Schiphol this and last month. I dont think you will experience any problems doing the transit, the main problem, according to media has been during check in and security control. 2.30 hrs should normally be plenty of time :) Have a nice trip :)
I once arived at a shengen gate, but the 'trunk' was broken, so a bus brought us all the way to the other side of the airport (in the non-shengen part). We came in through a side door in a hall, I guess next to gate H. But because we went to the non-shengen part, we had to stand in a long queue for passport control (there were no quick gates for EU/EEA-inhabitants). Also we had to walk all the way back to where our gate was for our bagage.
Justin, this video is great...then...I realized, I have no clue on what to expect still....LOL....here is my situation. I normally go to the Cholchester UK every year, I fly direct from DTW (USA) to LHR. However...early next year I will be headed over to Norwich for about 3 weeks. I wanted to fly from DTW to NWI but no direct flights, So I can fly DTW via Delta, to AMS, then jump on KLM airline for my trip to Norwich (NWI)... I guess I have a few question if you are able to answer them and if you are even still looking at this thread. It looks like all fights out of AMS to NWI depart Gate D (for the delta/KLM) ticket I am looking at, so that is Schengen side (correct?). I am wondering if you have any insight as to where my arrival will be when I get to AMS? I am wondering if I arrive from the USA will it be on the Schengen Side, therefore no passport control just get off that jet and get on the other? I tried doing a flight follow of a Delta flight 132 from DTW to AMS but all it says on the app is where to pick up bags, it does not give me an arrival gate. Then looking at my flight back home from NWI to AMS Via KLM airline, I can pick either a 2 hour layover, or 5 hour layover, before jumping on the Delta Aircraft to fly back to DTW. I am assuming I should take the 5 hour layover, just incase I am delayed, and not sure where I arrive at in AMS and where I have to go to depart at AMS. Either way I am sure I can figure it out, your video was great!!!
Hi and thank you very much :) Ok, so the Gate D is sort of a mix Gate of both Schengen and Non-Scehngen, divided by the upper and lower floor. Since you are arriving from the US, I'm pretty sure you will arrive at the Non-Schengen area of the airport. Now, since UK has left the EU, and Schengen treaty, your departure will probably be from the Non-Schengen area. Regarding your 2 and 5 hour layover, it's always nice to have enough time to do the transit :) Airlines normally has 45 minutes as a minimum. My longest transit in Schiphol was done in 42 minutes, and that include the passport control. So 2 hour should be enough time to do a transit, but you are absolutely correct, if some delays occur its always good to have some extra time :)
Hi, excellent video, thanks for explaining, I have a question, in a month I will travel to Helsinki from madrid spain and I only have 1 hour to take the next flight, do you think that if I reach? or do I have to go through a security checkpoint?
Very helpfulness information. We will travel from Detriot to Munich with a stop in Amsterdam. We only have 1.5 hrs between flights, do you think that will be enough? Now Im worried!
You not have to worry :) 1,5 hrs is enough time to do transit in Schiphol :) If long queue at the passport control, and you running late, just inform the staff, and they will let you bypass the queue :)
I am writing to inquire about the transit visa requirements for my upcoming travel. I am an Indian citizen traveling from New Delhi, India, to Thunder Bay, Canada, with a layover in Amsterdam. My flight itinerary is as follows: - Delhi( Indira Gandhi airport )to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Toronto Pearson International Airport - Toronto Pearson International airport to Thunder Bay I will have a layover of 17.25 hours in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. I am traveling to Canada on a study visa. I have received conflicting information from my local travel agents regarding the need for a transit visa. Some have mentioned that a transit visa is mandatory for layovers longer than 12 hours, while others have said it is not required. Could you please clarify whether I need a transit visa for my layover in Amsterdam?
Hi. I can't give you an 100% accuracy on this matter, but, as far as I know, you don't need any transit visa as long as you stay inside the airport, and the international area of the airport.
Hey! Thank you for the video. I've been having the doubt about where do I'll have my passport control. I'm traveling to Stockholm with a 2 hour stop at Schiphol airport next week. Now I know it's gonna be in Amsterdam. I wanted to be sure because Covid restrictions in Sweden are different when entering from EU country. Do you think the 2 hours will be enough? Thanks again :)
I will be travelling from New Delhi (India) to Toronto (Canada) via Amsterdam. both of my flights are of KLM. will I have to go thorugh immigration???? Do you have any idea about the gate I'll be in??
No, you will do the transit in the Non-Schengen area. So you will only have to go through the security control. the gates changes often, but your gates will be probably be at the E or F.
Hi i do have the same inquiry i am travelling from bahrain to YVr with the transit in amsterdam still unsure if they will allow me to stay there for 8hrs layover without a problem
@@jox0974 hey the layover was v good I was in the non eu (non-schengen ) area and there was only one check point for canadian travelers in which they checked if we had arrive can and iur vaccine proofs(it was not an immigrantion check). On the airport you'll find v v comfortable seats some are inclined seats and I sleapt there for 4 hours. It was an amazing experience. If you're coming from a non eu country and going to a non eu country there is no immigration check, your airline might ask for an additional check to see the vaccine docs. Happy Journey
Thank you so much for the information and the responses to all the comments!! I'm travelling from Munich, Germany to Lima, Peru (I'm Peruvian), and my transit will be on Schipol (one hour and 20 minutes layover). Do you think it is enough time? Since I'm travelling from Schengen area to Non Schengen area I'm really nervious about the time 🥲 I'm even buying a business class seat to be the first one out of the plane and run to my next flight. Please any recommendation?? Thank you so much in advance!!!
Hi, and thank you :) Yes, if no delays, 1 hour 20 minutes is enough time for transit. You will only have to go through the passport control. If crowded, and you for some reason running out of time, just inform the ground staff (they are wearing colourful vests) at the passport control, and they will let you pass the queue :) But you have enough time, and don't have to run. As you disembark the plane, just look for the screen, find your gate, and follow the signs :) It will take you to the passport control. Schiphol Airport is easy to do transit :) Have a nice flight :)
Hello.. I am Indonesian citizen and my flight is from Jakarta (CGK) Indonesia to Istanbul (IST) Turkey and it has 2 stops 1 at Singapore (as it is ASEAN country I do not need a visa) 1 at Schipol And btw, do I need a transit/transfer Visa in Schipol?
No, You will not need a visa in Schiphol since Turkey is outside Schengen. You will only have to go through the security checkpoint, and from there go to your designated departure gate.
Thanks for the video. I'm travelling to France from Colombia arriving first to AMS. I'll have a 10 hours wait for the next flight to France. Will I be allowed to go out of the airport to take a walk in the city and then come back to the airport without any problem? What will they ask me in order to let me get into the departure gate?
Hello, just a quick question please. If arriving at the Non-Schengen side and will be also leaving on the Non-Schengen side(within a few hours), what sign do I follow after getting off the plane? Do I follow the sign for my Gate number or the sign that says Transit T2-T-9? Thank you very much for this video!
Hi, you just follow All Gates/ Transit T2-T9, that will take you to the security control. After security control you turn left or right depending on your gate. Gate B, C, D, E you turn left, Gate F, G, H you turn right. But you will end up in the Non Schengen area of the airport, and you just follow the sign to your gate. Schiphol Airport is an easy airport to do transit :)
Yes, under normal circumstances, and no delays, 70 min is enough :) If youre running late, tell the groundstaff at passport control, they will check yoir boarding pass and let you bypass the queue if you are late :)
Hello, I will sleep at the yotelair hotel on schiphol. This is after security ( transitzone 2) and it is in the non schengen zone. The next day i have to go back to the schengenzone because there is my flight to spain. I have a dutch Passport. They told me that i only have to go through the Passport control and not anymore throught security. What is your opinion?
Thank you very much this has been so helpful! I'm flying next month from Frankfurt to Amsterdam and then to Mexico City. Do you perhaps know if I'll need some paper to "enter" the Netherlands, or do I even need it? Because I'm just connecting at AMS. I'm just scared what if they deny my entry to the Netherlands if I don't have some kind of paper or something. Does everyone have to go to F2? And is 1h35mins enough to catch my connection to Mexico City? Cheers!
If you are only doing a transit, you don't need any paper. Since you are going to Mexico, you will have to go through the passport control. The F2 is for pre-screening of the documents required for your final destination. So this will be different for every country. So for Mexico, I don't know, there might not be any pre-screening at all, but I don't know this. Your transit time of 1 hour 35 minutes should be enough time. If there are a long queue in front of the passport control, they will let people with short time to boarding jump the queue. But if no delays you will have plenty of time.
Hi, sorry for late answer. Schiphol is an easy airport to do transit. So don't worry :) There are a lot of sign throughout the airport telling you where to go.
thanks for the video. I am traveling to Suriname . My ticket plan is Doha , Amsterdam then Suriname . Do you think I need Transit Visa for Schengen Terminal or I will only change planes in Non Schengen area .
Hi, thank you for the video. I'm actually booking a flight from Finland to San Francisco myself, and I would have a 1-hour layover at Schiphol Airport. Would I have enough time to make the transfer?
Yes, if no delays, or extra safety measures at the gate, 1 hour is enough time. Since you travelling from the Inside to the Outside of Schengen, you only have to go through the passport control. And, if you are running late, just inform the ground staff and they will let you pass the queue :)
Thank you Justin for the video, I still confused, we arriving from Madrid/Spain (European community member) going to Los Angeles/USA, we traveling with KLM, you know which gates will be, do we have to pass immigration, I ask because we have 1hr 10 minutes from gate to gate.
Hi, when arriving inside the Schengen (EU) and traveling to a country outside Schengen, you will have to go through the Passport Control. I don't know the exact gate, but it will be either gate D, E, F, G or H. 1 hr 10 minutes will normally enough time. And there will be some airport staff at the passport control, so if you are running out of time, just tell them and they will let you through.
Flying Transavia Corfu to Schipol then KLM City hopper to Cork in Ireland is it easy to to transit Airport for the gates and we have 3 hours between flights any useful tips please 🙂👍
Hi Justin! I am travelling from Glasgow to Ibiza and I am transferring in Schipol with 1h35 layover. Any advice for making it through the airport quickly and easily? I am a very nervous flyer and so would appreciate any advice you have :)
Hi Sophie :) You will arrive at the Non-Schengen and will have to go through the passport control for Schengen area. If its crowded, just contact the ground staff there if you running late. They will let you pass the queue, but have your boarding pass ready for inspection, because they will check it. That said, my absolute longest transitwalk in Schiphol was under 40 minutes, and I was walking at a normal pace. So 1h35 should normally be enough time to reach the gate in time. And reports im getting from Schiphol these days is, it isn't crowded inside the airport. The big queues we've been hearing about, is on the outside of Schiphol Airport. I can't give you any guarantees, but I don't think you will have any problems reaching your gate :) Have a nice flight, and have a nice stay at Ibiza :) Do come back and tell how it went in Schiphol :) If any question, do ask, and I will try my best to answer :)
Did you make your flight in good time? Also was it just passport control you went through? I have a 1hr 20 connecting time from Newcastle then onto Norway x
Hello :) thanks for the video, it is really helpful since I have a transfer at this airport in a few weeks. Just one question, i have to go from Schengen to non-Schengen part of the airport, is there after the pass control another security control I have to go through? Thank you :)
Hello Justin, i have a question about my flight. I live in Germany and will travel from Bremen to Los Angeles. My transit will be in Schiphol. Can i use the automatic passport control or is this not usable for the flight to the USA. Is there any other control needed (Esta check, security check)? Thanks for help.
Hi :) Yes, if the automatic passport is open, you can use the automatic passport control. No, you don't have to go through any security control going from Schengen to Non Schengen. Some country might have some covid documents check, but im not sure about this for USA.
Thank you Justin for the detailed video! I have a question for you: If I’m going from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (as an EU citizen, Swedish) how much time should I have at the airport before the flight departs?
Do you mean time at transit, or at the first check-in ? If you mean transit, airlines will normally has a minimum time of transit of 40-45 minutes. This is due to the gate closing from 10-20 minutes before departure. If you did mean at the first check-in, it depends on the day, time and more. But... if you have baggage to check in, they normally want to you check that in from 40 - 60 minutes prior to your departure. I would check the airlines website. I am not sure I gave you any good answer right now, so feel free to ask more questions, and I will do my best to answer :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you Justin! I am flying by myself for the first time, so I’m quite confused. When I am going home from Amsterdam to Copenhagen airport, how much do I need at the airport to go through all the different procedures? Let say I take the train and arrive at the airport at 10.15 AM; will it be enough with 2 hours to go through everything for a flight that departs at 12.15 PM? That specific flight is a KLM plane, and they told me I needed 3,5 hours at the airport, but it surely seems like too much? I only have hand luggage, and given that I’m flying within the Schengen, I believe 2 hours should be sufficient. Just pure speculation on my part though, I have no experience. I hope my question wasn’t too messy.
Ok, first I have to say it's been many years since I travelled from Amsterdam, so I can't give you any guarantees regarding the Schiphol. But in general, yes, 2 hour should be sufficient time for check in. And, if you travel with only hand luggage, and get the opportunity to check in online, and receive the boarding pass online, you can go straight to the security control and straight to your gate. But there have been some problems at the Schiphol post-covid, and there was endless queues there, but I do think they have sorted that out. So in your case, travelling inside the Schengen, I do think 2 hour should be enough, but as I said, I can't give any guarantees, because it sometimes change during the day, time and more..... But do check if you can check in online, and receive a boarding pass online, that is a huge timesaver, then there is only security control to go through. There is no passport control since you travelling inside the Schengen, but do bring your passport since that is the valid id-documentation. Do come back and tell how your trip turned out. Have a nice travel :)
Great video. We would appreciate advice. We'll be traveling Delta from US, layover in Amsterdam, connecting on KLM to Croatia with my elderly mother in October. We have a 3.5 hr layover. Will we have enough time and are we required to go through passport control and security, or just security? The return will be in reverse. Thanks,
Well, normally, arriving from the outside of Schengen, and departing from the inside of Schengen, you will have to go through the security and passport control. But rumours has it, coming from US you don't have to go through the security control. In reverse, leaving Schengen, you only have to go through the passport control, but again, regarding the US, there might be a security check at the gate. But anyway, you have a lot of time to do the transfer :)
Great video. Coming from Berlin, we are flying on to Lima with a stop in AMS. I understand that I have to go through passport control and security check between the Schengen Area and the Non-Schengen Area. But I have another question: What about the transfer gates T1 to T9 (e.g. at 3:58 and 4:44 in your video)? Do I have to go through specific counter there, or are they just numbered and it doesn't matter which one I use?
Yes, going from Non-Schengen to Schengen, you need to go through Security and Passport control. Going from Schengen to Non-Schengen you need to go through Passport control. I have never used or paid any attention to the T1-T9, I'm not 100% sure what that mean, but it might be transfer desk. If you have your boarding pass for the final destination, you just go to your departure gate.
I am landing to gate D from Manchester UK and flying to Belgrade from gate E. What checks will I have to go through? Traveling with 2 kids and have 1h25m only. Thanks
Well, im not 100% sure anymore regarding UK. But if you arrive in the Non Schengen area, tjere will be no passport control, bit there might be security check. 1h25m should be enough time :) Habe a nice travel :)
Hi, im travelling from ireland to Bangkok and have a 7 hour wait in schipol before my flight to Thailand . My question is can I leave the airport and go to Amsterdam for a couple of hours?? Any help is greatly appreciated . Regards
Hi, i don't know when your flight is, but as of now, I would NOT leave the airport under no circumstances. There are chaos in Schiphol Airport these days. We are talking about over 5 hours to get in to the airport. The authorities are working hard to solve the problem. They are short on staff and personell at the check in, security and more. So please be carefully before you decide to leave the airport.
Dear Sir, Your video is excellent, for passengers travelling schilop Airport. Can explain me that a passengers landed gate F and transit to gate D53 please.
Ok, so your arrival is at F, that mean you arrived from outside the Schengen area. The Gate D, is a mix of inside and outside Schengen area divided by levels. So the transit depends on were you are travelling too. If you transit is to a Scengen country, you will have to go through the passport control, if not a Schengen country, you will only have to go through the security control.
Hello greetings, i would be Mumbai to Houston connecting klm 868 and klm 661 layover is 85 minutes( 0825 to 0950 hrs) in Amsterdam . Which gates to expect ? And what checks passport or security ? Time consumed.
The arrival and departure gates changes all the time, for example; today the arrival from Mumbai is at gate E3 and the departure gate for Houston is D10. So is not easy to tell the gate. You can check here : www.schiphol.nl/en/departures/?datetime=2023-06-14&query=mum since you are doing your transit outside the Schengen area, there will be no passport control, but there might be security control. 85 minutes is enough time :) you will probably do the transit in under 30 minute :) Have a nice flight :)
1 hour is normally enough. You only have to go through the passport control. If there is a long queue, then contact the ground staff there, and tell them you´re running late for your flight. They will then let you through and bypass the queue, but they will check you ticket to see if you actually are running late :) If no delays, you will have enough time to reach your gate in time :) Have a nice flight :)
Hello we are flying from dubai to helsinki and we have transit in Amsterdam for 1hour and 30mins. Will it be enough for 2 to get clear with the passport control and rp card checking. Thank you.
Yes, normally that will be enough. My longest transit walk was done in 42 minutes. If queue and you running out of time at the passport control, just look for the ground staff, and if you are late, they will let you bypass the queue.
Hello, I'll be flying from London - Amsterdam (Transfer) - Mexico under KLM. I'll be transferring aircraft but still under KLM. Do I need a Transit Visa? I have a Myanmar Passport.
No, if you only do a transit, inside the airport, you will not need a transit visa. You will have to go through the pass port control when you leave the Schengen area.
If the transit is inside the Schengen, that mean if you arrive inside Schengen and departure from inside Schengen, there will be no passport or security checks. But if you arrive from the outside Schengen, and departure from inside Schengen, there will be passport and security.
Hey, thank you for sucha wonderful video i have a ques i m travelling from canada to Amsterdam to delhi and my layover is 8 hrs do i need transit visa for Amsterdam?
Hey mate flying from uk to montreal (canada) and have a 4 hour layover in amsterdam just wondering do different halls/terminals have different flight information screens etc and how will i know which one to go into
Schiphol is an easy airport to do transit. You will probably arrive at the Concourse D, and travel from the Non-Schengen area, that is the concourse E, F and G. You will find all the information on the screens that are placed throughout the airport.
Hi Justin, thanks for this great video. Next week I will go to USA from Düsseldorf with a connection at Amsterdam. I will have 1 hour 10 mins in between. Do you think it will be enough? Thank you !! :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you very much :) I am not EU citizen, so I will have to wait in the line for passport control. Will I still be able to transfer in time??? Thank you very much Justin:)
Hello, thanks for the information. I'll be flying from Málaga to AMS and then from AMS to Munich. Do you think that 1 hour layover is enough? I think that it's a really short time. Thanks.
Hi, if there is no delays, 1 hour will be enough time for sure :) You will do the transit inside the Schengen Area, and don't have to pass through security or passport control.
Hey! I have a question. I am traveling from the USA and I have a transfer flight to Spain. The company gave me 1 hour and 10 minutes. Do you think that will be enough to go from the non-schegen area to the schegen area?
Yes, normally that will be enough time. If you running late, just tell the ground staff at the passport control and they will let you bypass the queue. Have your boarding card ready cause they will check :)
I am never sure, because there are too many factors that can occur. But normally if no delays, 1 hour 10 min is enough :) my longest transit was under 40 minutes. But as i said, if you are late, at the passport control tell the groundstaff and they will let you through the queue :)
I am due to take a flight from Birmingham to Islamabad, Pakistan via Amsterdam and Dubai in August. The transit visa is really confusing as I am getting mixed information. Is a transit visa required to travel from Birmingham > Amsterdam (2 h55m layover) > Dubai > Islamabad. I am travelling from non-EU to non EU country.
Hi, yes, normally if no delays or other issues, 40 minutes will be enough :) as you do your transit inside Schengen area there will be no passport or security control :)
@@JustinThailand my question is, this layover is of six hours. Can I leave the airport to the city without going to the city or if that’s the case, I still need to go through passport control?
I’m flying to Istanbul but will have a 1 hour and 10 min layover in AMS. Will I have to do security check or passport check if I’m not going to stay in Amsterdam or will I just go to my gate? I never flown out of the country like this so it’s very new to me I don’t know if that will be enough time since boarding usually closes 15 mins before so I land to AMS at 10:30 and supposed to fly out to IST at 11:40
It depends on where you come from. Short said, If you are doing the transit in Non Schengen area, there is no passport control. If you have to pass the Schengen area there will be passport control. From Non-Schengen to Schengen there will normally be security and passport control. From Schengen to Non-Schengen there will be only passport control. Hope this helped :) Have a nice flight :)
Yes, normally, if no delays, 50 minutes will be enough. You only have to go through the passport control, and if if you are running late, just tell the ground staff there, and they will let you bypass the queue :) Have a nice flight :)
Hi. I will be transferring at Schiphol during November, my flight is from the US and I'm going to Madrid. I have exactly an hour to transfer do you know if this is enough time?
Yes, normally 1 hour will be enough. I can't give any guarantees, but my longest transit walk so far took 40 minutes. But remember, if there is a long queue in the passport control, look for the ground staff and they will let you jump the queue if you are running out of time.
Hi I landed from Toronto and my next flight's gate is just besides the one from where I deboarded, do I need to go through security again. I am transferring from non schengen to non schengen
Hi Justin! I have travelled to schilphol many times, howevwr i have never transited there. Im planning a trip from lisbon to budapest and i would have 1h 30 min layover only. The carrier would be klm by the way. Do you think thats a reasonable time to do so or should i look for dofferent connection? Thanks in advance
Hello! I am travelling from Sweden (Gothenburg) to Barcelona with a 45 minute layover in Amsterdam Schipol, I am a bit anxious if I am going to make it, what do you think? And also how is it with check in bagage, do i have to check in my bagage twice or is it enough if i check in my bagage in Sweden only and the flight will do the rest?
You don't have to be anxious :) If no delays, 45 minutes will be enough time to do the transit :) And, you will do the transit inside the Schengen-area of the airport, that mean; No passport control and security control :) So you will most likely do the transit in under 15 minutes :) About the baggage, normally they will check your baggage to you final destination, to make sure, just ask during check-in in Sweden. Have a nice flight :)
Please I want to go from Copenhagen to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam to Canada What is the gate number and what will be the directions at the airport It is the first time and I travel alone
Gate number changes all the time, but you will land at the Concourse B, C or D. From you arrival gate, you just follow the signs for "All transit". If you are going to Canada, you flight will most likely leave from the Concourse D, E, F or G. But don't worry, Schiphol is big, but easy to navigate. As you come out from your plane, just look for the monitors showing the flights. Find your flight, and look for which concourse you plane is leaving from. If it is e.g. Concourse F, you just follow the sign for gates F. Its easy. When you halfway, you will have to go through the passport control.
Normally, if no delays, 50 minutes will be enough. You only have to go through the passport control. If you running late, just contact the ground staff at the passport control, and if you are late, they will let you pass the queue. Since you are travelling to US, there might be a security control at the gate just before boarding.
If you arrive inside Schengen and depart from Schengen, there is no security control. Coming from outside of Schengen and entering Schengen there will probably be a security control.
Hi Justin, Thanks for the informative video. I have a 9.5 hour layover from the USA, going to Paris and then finally to Morocco, travelling business class. I wanted to leave the airport and spend some time in Amsterdam. Do you recommend this given all the long queues that I've been hearing about at Schiphol or should I skip Schiphol at this time, go directly to Paris and just save Amsterdam for another time?
Hi :) Hmm im not qualified to give you any advice on that at the moment, but im still getting reports that there are still long queues for check in, security and passport control. People are being told to not show up before max 4 hours before departure. In your case, you don't have to check in, no luggage, you only have to go through the security and passport control. So it might be doable :) But it could not forgive my self if I recommend you to visit Amsterdam and the result of that was you missed your flight :)
Thank you for this very informative video, Justin! I will be travelling from South Africa to the US and I have a connecting flight at AMS. Will I enter and exit through the non-schengen terminal?
Hello Sir. I will be traveling with my Toddler to india from USA via Amsterdam and I have just 1 hr layover there. Is it sufficient for transit. Please advice
Hi, I m traveling from UAE to Mexico and have a Layover for 8 Hours in Amsterdam. I will not have to undergo any passport control and will not require transit visa right?
hello justin! Thank you for your video. Very² usefull, if i am travelling to Miami USA from Bali Indonesia and transit in schiphol with indonesian passport. Do i need to go through all passport controll then go through security check and going to non schengen area?
Hi :) No, you don't have to go through the passport control since you are doing your transit in the Non-Schengen area of the airport. But there might be a security control.
Hey Justin! My boyfriend is taking a flight from Croatia to Lima, Perú making transit in Schiphol for 2 hours. Do you think that he's going to make it? He's afraid to get lost and we are very nervous.
Hi Nicole :) Yes, he will make it :) 2 hours is enough :) Schiphol Airport is very easy to do transit, so he will not get lost :) He only have to go through the passport control. Look on the screen/monitors and find the gate, and start walking :) He will probably do the transit in under 30 minutes :)
Im coming from Manchester, with a 1hr 05mins transfer time, my original booking was 2 hours, this worries me. How long does it take to walk from eu terminal to Thailand terminal?
Well, walking from the EU to Non EU means you only have to go through the passport control. But, if there are queues at the passport control, and you are running late, just tell the ground staff, and they will help you. Normally, if no queue at the passport control, 1hr 5 min should be enough time to do the transit.
Hello there, thank you for your explanation. Under your experience at Schiphol airport, do you believe an hour it is enough to take the next flight? I bought a ticket with KLM and I will travel from Santiago, Chile to Copenhagen, Denmark in June but the next flight will leave in an hour as I mentioned before (arriving at 08:40 am at Schiphol and the next flight is at 09:40 am). I'm scared of losing the flight and having some issues due to the passport control. I'll look forward to your answer.
Hi :) Normally 1 hour is enough i f no delays. If crowded in the passportcontroll, and you running late, contact the groundstaff there and they will let you jump the qeue :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you, fella! I was checking Flight Radar and most of the flights are coming from Buenos Aires (the flight I talked about comes from there, but KLM has routes from Santiago to Buenos Aires and viceversa) arrive around 8:20 am but not later than 8:30 in the morning unless something unexpected happens. Thanks a lot for your comment, it made me feel more confortable. Kind regards from Chile! :)
I am travelling from Stuttgart to Atlanta with a 1h 55 minute layover in Amsterdam, does one have to go through security and passport control or just passport control? And if so have you heard if it's busy there at the moment or are there just long queues for check in/security when starting ones journey from Amsterdam?
Yes, correct. You only have to go through passport control. The reports im getting these days, is that its not busy inside the airport, but like you said, its busy on the outside for those checking in at Schiphol. And if you running late just tell the staff at the passport control and they will let you by-pass the queue, if any. But with 1 hr 55 minute you will have plenty of time. Have a nice flight, and do come back and tell us how it went :)
Hi Justin Nice video! Just wanted to ask Im quite anxious. Im filipino and my flight is Dammam to UK transiting Amsterdam. Just wanted to ask if I'd be required to get a transit visa. Sorry about the repeat question , I'd just feel better with the answer of an expert. God speed!
I am looking at flying from manchester (UK) to berlin in october and the klm flight i am looking at has a layover of 40 minutes at schiphol. Is 40 minutes going to be enough time to get from one side of the airport to the other to catch the connecting flight?
Sorry for late answer, 40 minutes is tight, but definitely doable. If you already did the flight, how did it go ? if you haven't, best of luck, but the airline is responsible for get on the flight, if not they will book on the next flight.
Thank you for your helpful video, Justin. Wanted to ask if there are delays at Schipol airport due to shortage of security staff. I am traveling from US to India via Amsterdam with 2 kids and senior citizen parents and so wanted to know of 2 1/2 hrs will be enough to transit. Thank you in advance.
Hi Ushma :) I am getting reports back from Schiphol that there is no problems inside the airport. The queue and congestion is outside the airport and for passenger doing a check in. That said, there have been some delays due to this. Since you arrive at the Non-Schengen area, and depart from the Non-Schengen area, you will only have to pass through the security control. 2 1/2 hrs should more then enough time for transit. The latest report I got from the security control was almost no queue at all. So enjoy your trip and have a great flight to India. Do come back and tell how it was, always great to hear from you after your travel :) Have safe flight :) If you have more question just ask, and I will try to do my best to answer :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you so much for putting my mind at peace. Appreciate for your response, Justin. Will definitely share my experience after returning back. Thanks again !
We are in the same situation, airport customer service told me that we wont have to go through security again since its a transfer, and only passport control. How true is this?
@@ameyab101 Hmmmmm ok, on all my trips from Bangkok I have to go through security control. If you do a transit inside the Schengen area, then you won't have to go through the security control.

Hi.. my daughter travelling to Phoenix, Arizona from India. She will travel from KLM Royal Dutch Airplane and land at Schiphol airport. From Schiphol she has to catch Air France Flight. Will she need transit visa?
Hi, no, she will not need transit visa as long as she dont leave the airport. She will also do the transit inside the Non-Schengen area, that mean she only have to pass through the Security control. Since she is traveling to the US, there might be some passport screening at the gate.
I'm extremely anxious about this. I arrive Schipol from Newcastle and have 1 hr 40 minutes (assuming first flight lands on time) to locate and get to my outgoing flight to JFK New York. Any help, advice, guidance gratefully received.
PS I will be travelling light - hand luggage only Any idea which terminals I'll likely arrive at / depart from ? Will I have to pass through passport control and security ? Thank you
Hi Russel. I can never be 100% sure, but there is a big chance that you will arrive at the Gate D, and there is a big possibility that your plane will leave from Gate E. But, this can often change, but there is a high possibility for Gate D and E. So, you will have to go through the Security control, but you don't have to go through the Passport control. My longest transit walk was 42 minutes, and that included going through the Passport Control and to gates far out. So, under normal circumstances, you will have no problem reaching your gate in time. The latest report I´ve been getting is that there haven t been any long queues inside the airport. So if I was to make a guess, i think you will be able to do the transit in 20-30 minutes, maybe shorter. If there are many planes arriving at the same time, there might be some congestion at the security control, but the queue moves normally very fast. If you running late, contact the staff and tell them you're running out of time, and they will normally let you jump the queue. Hope this helped a little :) Have a nice travel, and do come back and tell me how it turned out :)
1 hour 50 is enough to go from Gate B20 arrivent from Bordeaux to Gate F9 for a connections with Klm to Singapore? It is my first travel with transfert😢
Yes, that will be enough. If long queue at the passport control, just look for the ground staff and tell them you are late. But 1 hour 50 minutes is more then enough :) Have a nice flight :)
I am so anxious because of the delays in Schipol, but this video gave me some reassurance! I'm traveling from New York to Bangkok, stopping at Chopin and Schipol (JFK-WAW-AMS-BKK, same ticket). If I understood correctly, I'd land from WAW to AMS on the Schengen side, and I just need to pass through passport control to go to the non-Schengen side. Is that correct? I would not need to collect my check-in luggage from the WAW-AMS segment to check them in again for the AMS-BKK leg of the flight, right? Is there a separate passport control lane for business class travelers? I have 2 hours and 45 minutes of ground time in AMS. Would that be enough? Thanks in advance for your response, Justin!
Hi :) I do belive your flight will be like this : During Check In at New York, tell them to check your luggage and issue Boarding Pass to the final destination, Bangkok. So on your first flight to WAW, I do think you will do the transit in the Non-Schengen area of the airport. Look for the signs for Transit Non-Scengen. Arriving in AMS you will do the same, transiting in the Non Schengen area. That means that you don't have to go through any passport control, but you will have to go through the security control in AMS, in WAW I don't know. There are fast track lanes for business class travelers at AMS. 2 hours 45 minutes will normally be enough time for transit. The latest report I got from AMS, is there that there is almost no queues inside the airport. Hoped it helped a little :) Have a nice flight and do come back and tell how it turned out.
Hi Justin. Thank you for this video. I am planning my family summer trip in June next year . Will be traveling from glasgow and transit in Schipol for 55 minutes layover then to Malaysia. Do you think that’s enough time for us to catch up the next flight? 😅 too risky don’t you think ?
Well.... it can be risky, but it is definitely doable, but you are vulnerable to delays and queues. But, my longest transit walk in Schiphol was done under 40 minutes, and that was walking out to the far gates inside Schengen area of the airport. So, I think, and hope, you will be ok :) Have a great travel, do come back and tell how it turned out :)
Hi Justin! I have a question. I am a UK Citizen. I am traveling from Montreal Canada with my Canadian baby, to visit Glasgow, UK in October. My transit is at Schipol (1hr 50 mins). Can you please tell me if this is enough time to walk with baby? Also, do I need to go through security and passport control? Any other advice or things to be aware of? I am so so nervous about carrying my luggage, and my baby and any delays happening :( Both Montreal Canada to Schiphol and Schiphol to Glasgow flights are with KLM.
Normally that will be enough time. And since you are doing the transit inside the Non-Schengen area, you don't have to go through the passport control, only the security control. And the latest reports I got from Schiphol is that there is almost no queue at the security control. So, 1 hour 50 min should be more than enough. My longest transit walk was done under 40 minutes, and that includes passport control. So, If no delay, you will have plenty of time to enjoy your transit :) Have a nice trip :)
Hey Justin i have a flight to Mineeapolis USA on aug3 in schipol airport my lay over time is 2 hour 40 minutes this time will be sufficient to catch other flight?
Yes, that will be sufficient :) You didn't say where you arrived from, but if its inside the Non-Schengen area, you will only have to go through security control. If you arrive inside Schengen, you only have to pass through the passport control. So, 2 hour 40 minutes will be sufficient :) Have a nice flight on aug 3 :)
Hey Justin, thank you for this video! I will be traveling with my cats from USA to India with a 4hr layover at Amsterdam. Do you have any advice for me? Will I need to obtain an EU passport for my cats? Any suggestions are welcome!
Hi Justin. Thanks for the informative video. I am travelling from the UK to Schipol and have a connecting flight to Norway. My connecting time is 1 hour 20 minutes. I am flying KLM on both flights that day.I am very nervous that I won't catch my connecting flight as Schipol in the media gas been portrayed as a chaotic mess with long wait times. Am I right in that it is passport control only that I have to go through? I will be arriving non schengen and going into Schengen. KLM are saying no security checks for UK visitors connecting, but I an receiving conflicting info. Thank you in advance.
Hi Claire and thank you :) The mess has mostly been outside of the airport, for passengers entering the airport. The latest reports I been getting, is there hardly any queue at all. But this can change during busy times. If you are running late, just tell the staff at the passport control, they will check your boarding pass and let you through if you are running late. About the security control, I am not sure now. If KLM tell you don't have to go through the security control, then they should be right about that. But I thought everyone arriving in the Non Schengen had to go through the security control, but might not apply for UK then. So Im not sure now :) But, as you said, you will have to pass through the passportcontrol. 1 hour and 20 minutes should be enough time for transit. My longest transit walk was in 40 minutes, and that includes security control, passport control and I had to walk to the far end of the airport for my connecting flight :) So you will be ok :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you. I think whilst the UK leaving Brexit is recent, they are saying no security for UK passengers. I googled do UK transit passengers need to go through security? and a page from Schipol came up headed Consequence of UK passengers leaving Brexit - and it said no security checks are required. I travel in 3 weeks so I'll let you know whether this is correct. Thank you for your reply and advice.
@@clairewatkins5098 did you make it Claire? I’m travelling from Newcastle to amsterdam and on to Prague, my transfer is only 45 minutes! I’m bricking it
@@grantlalala Hi Grant. You will be ok. Even though the flight to Amsterdam says 1 hour 20 the flight only takes an hour so you have extra time! You will only have to go through passport control. It takes about 10 minutes (walking fast) to get to the gate you need. Passport queues may be up to 30 minutes long, but if you have 30 minutes left before your flight there are plenty of staff around asking and they will move you to the front of the queue. The shortest window I've had was 1 hour 5 and it felt like I was waiting around ages in the gate before I boarded. KLM aren't quick at getting people on the plane. My last 3 flights I haven't boarded until about 10 minutes before the flight is due to depart. My advice is to sit in an aisle seat near the front to get off quick, walk fast to your gate. You will be ok as the ticket wouldn't be sold if the connection isn't doable. If worse comes to worse and you miss it (very slim chance) KLM will put you on the next flight as it's their responsibility. Enjoy Prague. It's an awesome place. I went there in 1998 !

Hi. I am not 100% sure anymore when coming from US. You will have to go through the passport control, but security control I am not sure. If coming from e.g. Asia you will normally go through the security control. But someone coming from the US told me they didn't have to go through the security control. But, 1 hour should be enough for transfer, even if. you have to go through the security control. I would appreciate if you come back after your transit and gave a feedback on this, would help me another travelers :) Have a nice flight :)

Yes, you will have to go through security control, but not passport control. Regarding the chaos these days, i have no information regarding this since i havent travelled through Schiphol this and last month.
Ouch, that was some detour.... hope that doesn't happen to often.
I think 1 hour will be enough, and you don't have to go through security control since you're inside Schengen area.

- Toronto Pearson International airport to Thunder Bay
I will have a layover of 17.25 hours in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

I'll be traveling from the USA to the UK with a layover here. Which one can I expect? First time international flyer here and nervous
Hi, sorry for late answer. Schiphol is an easy airport to do transit. So don't worry :) There are a lot of sign throughout the airport telling you where to go.
thanks for the video!!
thanks for the video. I am traveling to Suriname . My ticket plan is Doha , Amsterdam then Suriname . Do you think I need Transit Visa for Schengen Terminal or I will only change planes in Non Schengen area .
You don't need transit visa as long as you stay inside the airport.
@@JustinThailand Thank you Justin.
Flying Transavia Corfu to Schipol then KLM City hopper to Cork in Ireland is it easy to to transit Airport for the gates and we have 3 hours between flights any useful tips please 🙂👍
Yes, its easy to do transit in Schiphol. It can some distances to walk, but easy. 3 hours is plenty of time :) Have a nice flight :)
Thank you 🙂👍👍
Hey do you need transit visa for layover at schipol airport?
Hello :) thanks for the video, it is really helpful since I have a transfer at this airport in a few weeks. Just one question, i have to go from Schengen to non-Schengen part of the airport, is there after the pass control another security control I have to go through? Thank you :)
No, going from Schengen to Non-Scengen there is no security control, only passport control.
I have a question for you:
If I’m going from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (as an EU citizen, Swedish) how much time should I have at the airport before the flight departs?
Have a nice travel :)
thank you!
But I have another question:
What about the transfer gates T1 to T9 (e.g. at 3:58 and 4:44 in your video)?
@@JustinThailand hi thank you for your reply. My flight is August 15th . Maybe things will get better. Many thanks again
Yes, I agree, it will probably be better :) Have a nice flight to Bangkok, do come back and tell how your flight and transit experience turned out.
Dear Sir,
Your video is excellent, for passengers travelling schilop Airport.
You can check here : www.schiphol.nl/en/departures/?datetime=2023-06-14&query=mum
since you are doing your transit outside the Schengen area, there will be no passport control, but there might be security control. 85 minutes is enough time :) you will probably do the transit in under 30 minute :) Have a nice flight :)
Yes please, flying in July and nervous because I only have an hour 😬 EU country to US
1 hour is normally enough.
@@JustinThailand thankyou so much🖤
Hello, I'll be flying from London - Amsterdam (Transfer) - Mexico under KLM. I'll be transferring aircraft but still under KLM. Do I need a Transit Visa? I have a Myanmar Passport.
No, if you only do a transit, inside the airport, you will not need a transit visa. You will have to go through the pass port control when you leave the Schengen area.
@@JustinThailand thank you, Justin!
If I’m going from Dublin to Vienna through Amsterdam would 55 minutes in Amsterdam be enough as there would be no passport or security checks?
If the transit is inside the Schengen, that mean if you arrive inside Schengen and departure from inside Schengen, there will be no passport or security checks. But if you arrive from the outside Schengen, and departure from inside Schengen, there will be passport and security.

Hi. Is one hour enough to transit at Schipol airport if i travel from Zurich to Arlanda Sweden?
Yes, you will arrive and depart inside the Schengen area, that means; no security and passport control :)

Thank you very much! However, I think it's even less time because the boarding gate closes 20 minutes earlier. Are you sure that will be enough??
I am never sure, because there are too many factors that can occur. But normally if no delays, 1 hour 10 min is enough :) my longest transit was under 40 minutes. But as i said, if you are late, at the passport control tell the groundstaff and they will let you through the queue :)
Thabnk you i will going soon

I am due to take a flight from Birmingham to Islamabad, Pakistan via Amsterdam and Dubai in August. The transit visa is really confusing as I am getting mixed information. Is a transit visa required to travel from Birmingham > Amsterdam (2 h55m layover) > Dubai > Islamabad. I am travelling from non-EU to non EU country.
No, i don't think so. As long as you stay inside the airport, visa is normally not needed.
Hi Justin!I'm flying from Poland to Luxembourg, I have a transfer at Amsterdam airport. Will 40 minutes be enough for a transfer?
Hi, yes, normally if no delays or other issues, 40 minutes will be enough :) as you do your transit inside Schengen area there will be no passport or security control :)
@@JustinThailand Thank you for your aswer🙂
If I fly from Dubai to Mexico city via Amsterdam, I don’t have to pass through passport control, right?
Thats correct :)

You don't have to be anxious :) If no delays, 45 minutes will be enough time to do the transit :) And, you will do the transit inside the Schengen-area of the airport, that mean; No passport control and security control :) So you will most likely do the transit in under 15 minutes :)
About the baggage, normally they will check your baggage to you final destination, to make sure, just ask during check-in in Sweden. Have a nice flight :)
Anybody knows how long it takes from F Gates to B Gates 🤔🤔?? Is an hour enough to make it ??
Hey, i am flying from Vienna to Amsterdam (50 min Delay) then to LA - do you think 50 min is enough ? I am a bit nervous
Normally, if no delays, 50 minutes will be enough. You only have to go through the passport control. If you running late, just contact the ground staff at the passport control, and if you are late, they will let you pass the queue. Since you are travelling to US, there might be a security control at the gate just before boarding.
Hi,
Flying from Dublin to Helsinki via Schiphol. With a short layover time in Schiphol- will I have to go through secuirty checks?
If you arrive inside Schengen and depart from Schengen, there is no security control. Coming from outside of Schengen and entering Schengen there will probably be a security control.
Hi, I am traveling from dublin to serbia via schiphol. Do I need to pass through passport control?

Yes, correct. You only have to go through passport control.

PS I will be travelling light - hand luggage only
Any idea which terminals I'll likely arrive at / depart from ?
Thank you!
All went to plan, thanks. No security control, just a 20 minute walk, stress free.
@@JustinThailand thanhk you🙂
I am so anxious because of the delays in Schipol, but this video gave me some reassurance!
@@JustinThailand Thank you!
Hi, did you make it with no problems?
I am so so nervous about carrying my luggage, and my baby and any delays happening :(
Both Montreal Canada to Schiphol and Schiphol to Glasgow flights are with KLM.
Hi, as long as you only doing transit, and dont leave the airport you will not need any EU visa.
@@JustinThailand thank you so much for taking the time to reply :) This helped a lot
Ok, looking forward to hear from you again :) Happy travel :)
I went there in 1998 !
hello, I have a question. Im traveling from the US to Sweden and I have a layover in AMS of 2hours and 30 minutes. will that be enough time? im not sure if i have to recheck my luggage or not
If your travel is under 1 ticket, you dont have to recheck your luggage. And yes, 2 hour 30 minutes will be more then enough :)
@@JustinThailand yes, it will be under one ticket. All through delta. Thank you for the reply :)
So I’m arriving from the USA, through Amsterdam then on to Zurich Switzerland. I’m Confused! Will I have to go through immigration/customs AND security? I’m Worried because I only
Have one hour layover.. (doing all Carry- on so I won’t have to collect luggage) can someone tell me what steps will be once I debark? Thanks so much!
@@JustinThailand thank you for your response and I certainly will let you know afterwards!
Hi sir,
I will be traveling from India to USA on F1 visa and have 2h 40m layover in Amsterdam, do i need a Transit visa?
No, as long as tou stay inside the transitarea of the airport, you will not need any visa.
Hi. can you tell me if i go from Billund(dk) to Manchester (uk) and same way back. Will it be possible just to go directly form arrival gate to the departure gate?.
Im sorry, but im not 100% sure about that anymore :) Normally, not being a member of Schengen Treaty, means you will have to go through the Passport control, but im not sure about this for UK.
