    I’m flying to Istanbul but will have a 1 hour and 10 min layover in AMS. Will I have to do security check or passport check if I’m not going to stay in Amsterdam or will I just go to my gate? I never flown out of the country like this so it’s very new to me I don’t know if that will be enough time since boarding usually closes 15 mins before so I land to AMS at 10:30 and supposed to fly out to IST at 11:40

      It depends on where you come from. Short said, If you are doing the transit in Non Schengen area, there is no passport control. If you have to pass the Schengen area there will be passport control. From Non-Schengen to Schengen there will normally be security and passport control. From Schengen to Non-Schengen there will be only passport control. Hope this helped :) Have a nice flight :)

      If no delays or other issues, you should be fine :) You only have to go through the passport control. If there are queue at the passport control, and you running late, contact the ground staff there, and tell them you are late. They will then check your boarding pass and if you are late for your flight, they will let you pass the queue.

      I'm doing a flight from Billind in Denmark changing here to fly back to Aberdeen in 3 weeks time and from what I've read if you walk slowly the time is 40 mins. I have 45 minutes to get through security and passport control but I'm gonna do whats suggested and if time is tight ask for help at these check points to ensure I reach my gate in time. My guess is they won't sell a flight with a short lay over time if it's impossible to get connecting flight

    Great video. Coming from Berlin, we are flying on to Lima with a stop in AMS. I understand that I have to go through passport control and security check between the Schengen Area and the Non-Schengen Area.
    But I have another question:
    What about the transfer gates T1 to T9 (e.g. at 3:58 and 4:44 in your video)? Do I have to go through specific counter there, or are they just numbered and it doesn't matter which one I use?

    • @JustinThailand
      @JustinThailand  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, going from Non-Schengen to Schengen, you need to go through Security and Passport control.
      Going from Schengen to Non-Schengen you need to go through Passport control.
      I have never used or paid any attention to the T1-T9, I'm not 100% sure what that mean, but it might be transfer desk. If you have your boarding pass for the final destination, you just go to your departure gate.

    If arriving at the Non-Schengen side and will be also leaving on the Non-Schengen side(within a few hours), what sign do I follow after getting off the plane? Do I follow the sign for my Gate number or the sign that says Transit T2-T-9?
    Thank you very much for this video!

    • @JustinThailand
      @JustinThailand  2 года назад +3

      Hi, you just follow All Gates/ Transit T2-T9, that will take you to the security control. After security control you turn left or right depending on your gate. Gate B, C, D, E you turn left, Gate F, G, H you turn right. But you will end up in the Non Schengen area of the airport, and you just follow the sign to your gate. Schiphol Airport is an easy airport to do transit :)

      The process for Non- to Non is only security control, but rumours has it coming from UK, there might not be security control, but I can't verify that. Yes you will have to go through the passport control in Schiphol, Amsterdam. This will be your port of entry to Schengen. There are zones inside the airport called Lounge 1, 2, 3 and 4, but it's not that relevant for transit, that's just to divide the different areas of the airport into zones. Hope this helped :)

      You don't need any transit visa for doing a transit in Schiphol. Depending on where you going, they might check your passport and visa requirements for your final destination before you boarding the plane. For your transit, you will arrive at the Non-Schengen Area of the airport, and will have to go through the security and passport control since you are entering the Schengen Area of the airport. Entering Schengen means you need a valid visa for Schengen or your arrival country. Since you are a dual national you probably have a valid visa already.

      If you are only doing a transit, you don't need any paper. Since you are going to Mexico, you will have to go through the passport control. The F2 is for pre-screening of the documents required for your final destination. So this will be different for every country. So for Mexico, I don't know, there might not be any pre-screening at all, but I don't know this. Your transit time of 1 hour 35 minutes should be enough time. Ok, so your arrival is at F, that mean you arrived from outside the Schengen area. The Gate D, is a mix of inside and outside Schengen area divided by levels. So the transit depends on were you are travelling too. If you transit is to a Scengen country, you will have to go through the passport control, if not a Schengen country, you will only have to go through the security control.

      Hi :) There will only be passport control in Amsterdam since you are leaving the Schengen-area. No security check in Amsterdam. 50 minutes is normally enough time. There might be an extra security-check at the gate, US has sometimes extra checks at the gate.

      Normally, they will do their best to let you reach your flight, but sometimes they will have to leave without the passenger for different reasons as slot times, and more. But, if that happen to you, find the servicedesk, and they will provide you with transport and accommodations. And they will rebook you for next or another flight.

    • @JustinThailand
      @JustinThailand  Год назад

      You will probably reach your gate in time, but I understand your worries :) If you miss your flight, the airline will normally rebook you automatically, and then send you an sms or/and email. But anyways, you will have no problem finding a servicedesk, if not, just ask some airport staff, there are a lot airport staff throughout the airport. At the servicedesk, you just give them your boarding card, and they will find the first available flight to Atlanta for you. They will most often check their own flights, then they will check the alliance they are a member of. If they give you a new flight the next day, just ask them for hotel and transport. Sometimes you will get a voucher for hotel and taxi/bus, but sometimes you will have to pay by yourself, and then claim for refund through their websites. Normally an easy prosess. But you not have to worry, missed connection is normal for all airliners, and this is mostly taken good care of. So don't worry. When you arrive at Schiphol Airport, and you arrive at the passport control, if its crowded, and you running out of time, just look for the ground staff, If I don't remember wrong now, they have yellow shirts on, make contact and tell them you are running late, they will then check your boarding card, and let you pass the queue if you are late :) Most probably will you be ok :) And you are not bothering me, just ask, and if you have more question, or something happens, just ask, and I will do what I can to help :) Have nice flight :)

      Gate number changes all the time, but you will land at the Concourse B, C or D. From you arrival gate, you just follow the signs for "All transit". If you are going to Canada, you flight will most likely leave from the Concourse D, E, F or G. But don't worry, Schiphol is big, but easy to navigate. As you come out from your plane, just look for the monitors showing the flights. Find your flight, and look for which concourse you plane is leaving from. If it is e.g. Concourse F, you just follow the sign for gates F. Its easy. When you halfway, you will have to go through the passport control.

This is due to the gate closing from 10-20 minutes before departure. If you did mean at the first check-in, it depends on the day, time and more. When I am going home from Amsterdam to Copenhagen airport, how much do I need at the airport to go through all the different procedures? Let say I take the train and arrive at the airport at 10.15 AM; will it be enough with 2 hours to go through everything for a flight that departs at 12.15 PM?
      That specific flight is a KLM plane, and they told me I needed 3,5 hours at the airport, but it surely seems like too much? I only have hand luggage, and given that I’m flying within the Schengen, I believe 2 hours should be sufficient. Just pure speculation on my part though, I have no experience.
      I hope my question wasn’t too messy.

    • @JustinThailand
      @JustinThailand  11 месяцев назад

      Ok, first I have to say it's been many years since I travelled from Amsterdam, so I can't give you any guarantees regarding the Schiphol. But in general, yes, 2 hour should be sufficient time for check in. And, if you travel with only hand luggage, and get the opportunity to check in online, and receive the boarding pass online, you can go straight to the security control and straight to your gate. But there have been some problems at the Schiphol post-covid, and there was endless queues there, but I do think they have sorted that out. So in your case, travelling inside the Schengen, I do think 2 hour should be enough, but as I said, I can't give any guarantees, because it sometimes change during the day, time and more..... But do check if you can check in online, and receive a boarding pass online, that is a huge timesaver, then there is only security control to go through. There is no passport control since you travelling inside the Schengen, but do bring your passport since that is the valid id-documentation. Do come back and tell how your trip turned out. Have a nice travel :)
