Britney Spears didn’t get a lot of love back in the day, she was just a pop artist that they thought wouldn’t last very long. I’m glad she proved them wrong.

It's really gross how hateful a lot of people were toward her back then- it was almost like a badge of honor for some to be a Britney hater or something. And that's not even the stuff people said directly to her face. I can't believe that was commonplace only 20 years ago- I can't imagine that happening now...at least I would hope not. Dude. The number one thing I have learned from your awards shows vids is that MTV DID BRITNEY SPEARS ABSOLUTELY DIRTY FROM JUMP. I cannot believe how many excellent vids she didn’t win for that were DEFINITIVELY played on their network grabbing them HELLA ratings at times.
It’s insulting. And I say that not even being a true fan of hers. But just like Bravo and Nene, Sagittarians are NEVER given their due. DEC 2 here. Same as Brit. WE KNOW. 😂

The only reason why i remember the 1999 VMAs is because Korn made a huge mark that year. They were and are still my favorite band. Love them, always. And massively influential.

That era was odd. Artists like Korn and Limp Bizkit were the bad ass anti-mtv anti pop aesthetic….yet owed their popularity to MTV. Which is pop personified

Ah, I remember watching this live. I had just gotten my very own computer after using WebTV for so long (ugh, anyone remember that?). I had my own dial-up line for it and was excited to set my little mini TV/VCR next to the PC on the desk. I spent the night chatting on TalkCity chat rooms doing live reactions to the show, thinking it was the coolest thing ever to watch television while on a computer lol.
Was a good VMA show to end the millennium, though. I’d love to experience that era just one more time.
