One potential issue with an ILS is that it is subject to ground interference such as a airport vehicle or aircraft in the ILS exclusion area. RNAV is not subject to ground interference.

The plane I rent has a g1000 with that same autopilot, but I can’t get the damn thing to stop at the altitude I want

Interesting. I flew the same thing and never had an issue. When it first starts up do you put the altimeter setting in there, altitude, and use vertical speed?
