If anyone can get her gentled down, Shelby Dennis, it's you!! Of THAT, I have no doubts at all. You can already see a difference from the time you picked her up to the day you decided to take that catch rope off her. She's a sweetheart!! But, WHAT'S HER NAME!!?? LOL 🤣 Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

Force free desensitizing at the animals speed is the best.
The biggest and best lesson I've ever learned is animals never stopped learning. You may not be working with her. You may not be touching her but just being in her presence is enough. Being positive, gentle and slow is also teaching her to trust. With my puppy mill moms (dogs) with my feral cats. I will sit within a vicinity that they feel safe and take my animals that are confident, brave and trusting and do training processes with my dogs. It's amazing watching the terrified animal go from hiding to watching me do this. They make so many big jumps when they realize just what I am doing and why I am doing it. I have three feral cats in my house at this time and all three are making large jumps in training. I am now to the point where I could do Target training with them. I have not started clicker training as the sound is a little bit too much for them. I know this is a short video and I know very little about you but I can tell you have a large knowledge of animal care and behavior. One thing I have learned is a lot of the training and behavior modification for dogs started with horses. So I'm not sure if you know this, but you could also go to a lot of the dog training books and use similar steps and ways to train. I've been closing a link to a cat that I have in a cage in my house. She was either terrified or attacking people as she did not know how to read people and did not trust people. This is one of our biggest steps she's taken as she came to me and accepted a treat and a toy from me. We will continue to train several times a day and at some point she will become loose in the house. Again, I get this is a cat and not a dog but fear, anxiety and learning with any species has a similar aspect.

OMG lucky pony!! I am SO looking forward to watching you gentle her, and her becoming sweet and soft and confident. You can tell she has willingness, and that she's clever. With your energy and patience she will feel a huge release in pressure in no time. I have a feeling she's going to get quite attached to you. BTW, if that's what your shetland look like in Canada, lucky you! In France they are fluffy midgets with major ego issues 😂 You guys enjoy this great new relationship!

Congrats. She seems like an amazing character. I can't wait to see her transformation under your loving guidance.
Btw I've noticed that you were wearing shades, hats and headphones. Given that horses do instinctively look for eyes and ears for hints, do you think that it can be dertimental to obscure these parts of your body or, on the opposite, that it can relieve the pressure of a 'predator' staring at them and 'challenging' them all the time? Can be both depending on the situation?
