It's easy to get overwhelmed. My late husband and I felt the exact same way when he was diagnosed.
You probably already know from researching Johns-Hopkins, but eye problems are very common with diabetics. You guys are already on top of it, and his blood sugar is great, so I congratulate you! You're doing a great job!!
One word of caution: you need to find a way to keep John out of the market stand goodies. Get something like one of those plastic cabinets and put a lock on the door. Yeah, I know that seems harsh, but here's the thing: it only takes a little bit of sneaking to start them back on the sugar full time. Diabetics crave it, and it's hard to give it up. I witnessed this with my husband, my father-in-law, and two of my aunts. However, my brother, who did not have access to sweets, was able to keep his sugar well under control. They will get stubborn about it, so it's in his best interest to lock the sugary stuff up so all he has access to are the healthy options.
One more thing, then I promise to stop. 😂 Illness and stress will jack up blood sugar, so if his sugar goes up and refuses to come back down, check to see I'd he's not feeling well or if something is stressing him out.

If you want to fix some good cookies that are sugar free, try Paula Deen’s magic Peanut Butter Cookies! They are easy( only three ingredients), and only makes up about 1 1/2 to 2 dozen cookies. If I were making some, I would double the recipe and freeze some of them before baking on a cookie sheet to have on hand. Just put into a freezer bag and label how to bake. Then just take out a couple as needed. You can use same recipe for grandchildren just by using sugar ( same amount) instead of sugar substitute. 😊

You look beautiful. Love your hew hair style and color. I had cataract surgery and let me tell you, it is like Lasik for older people. I only have to wear reading glasses now and for the first time in my life I can see long distance. It was an amazing change. Who knew? The surgery is just a day procedure and not painful. Worst thing is the eye drop schedule for a month or so after. So glad he's doing well. And don't go by your scale. I have a love/hate relationship with mine. LOL! All the best to you and Mr. Wayna.

Hi again take it from me Just breathe You cook your own food that is a big big step. You are doing great . My husband has diabetes and I mostly bake or cook everything ( well maybe not everything but most of it ) I bake with unbleach flower and splendor for baking . That helps with his sugar level also ( that is if he does try to eat it all. No he doesn't do that but he would like to. Give yourself some Grace, one step at a time .
