XAMPP is a free and open-source cross-platform web server solution stack package developed by Apache Friends, consisting mainly of the Apache HTTP Server, MariaDB database, and interpreters for scripts written in the PHP and Perl programming languages.

XAMPP stands for Cross-Platform (X), Apache (A), MariaDB (M), PHP (P) and Perl (P). It is a simple, lightweight Apache distribution that makes it extremely easy for developers to create a local web server for testing and deployment purposes. Everything needed to set up a web server - server application (Apache), database (MariaDB), and scripting language (PHP) - is included in an extractable file. XAMPP is also cross-platform, which means it works equally well on Linux, Mac and Windows. Since most actual web server deployments use the same components as XAMPP, it makes transitioning from a local test server to a live server extremely easy as well.
Usages:
Officially, XAMPP's designers intended it for use only as a development tool, to allow website designers and programmers to test their work on their own computers without any access to the Internet. To make this as easy as possible, many important security features are disabled by default.
XAMPP has the ability to serve web pages on the World Wide Web.
A special tool is provided to password-protect the most important parts of the package.
XAMPP also provides support for creating and manipulating databases in MariaDB and SQLite among others.
Once XAMPP is installed, it is possible to treat a localhost like a remote host by connecting using an FTP client. Using a program like FileZilla has many advantages when installing a content management system (CMS) like Joomla or WordPress. It is also possible to connect to localhost via FTP with an HTML editor.

#Step1 Stop World Wide Web Publishing Service, a utility application pre-installed on many Windows computers. To stop it, open up Administrative Tools > Services in the Windows Control Panel, look for the application, select it, and click Stop.
#Step2 Use Windows Firewall to force the ports to remain unblocked. Do this by opening the Windows Control Panel and navigating to Windows Firewall > Advanced Settings. Then add a new inbound rule forcing ports 80 and 443 to remain unblocked.
#Step3 Sometimes unblocking port 80 can be particularly challenging. Or it may be the case that you need whatever application is using port 80 to keep using it. In that can, you can configure XAMPP to work over port 8080 rather than port 80.
#Step4 To make this change, open the XAMPP control panel but don’t start MySQL or Apache. Instead, click on Configure in the Apache row and select the Apache (httpd.conf) option.
Alternatively, you can navigate to C:\xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf to open the file.
#Step5 Once you have the file open, locate the line that says Listen 80 and change it to Listen 8080. Next, find the line that says ServerName localhost:80 and change that value to ServerName localhost:8080. Save the changes and close the file.
#Step6 With those changes made, restart XAMPP and start up Apache and MySQL. Port 80 should no longer be in use. Instead, you should see Apache now running on ports 443 and 8080.
#Pro #Tip There are two additional things you have to do to make this change work:
#Tip1 Use localhost:8080/ to access all of your XAMPP-powered websites rather than locahost/.
#Tip2 If you had already installed any WordPress sites locally prior to changing the port, you will need to update the WP_HOME and WP_SITEURL definitions in wp-config.php manually to reflect the new domain prefix.
