  • ►Follow Jay, our Volvo catalog manager, and learn how to replace the fuel filter in your P2 chassis Volvo.
    Over time, our fuel filters can become overly dirty, restrictive, and sometimes even clogged which can produce either poor drive-ability or a no-start condition. In addition, your fuel filter is protecting your fuel pump and also helping to ensure that you're getting the highest fuel-efficiency you possibly can. A clogged filter makes your fuel pump work harder and can even burn it out.
    This was installed on a 2006 XC70, however, the essential information is the same for the following P2 Chassis models:
    S80 (1999-2006)
    V70 (2001-2007)
    S60 (2001-2009)
    XC70 (2003-2007)
    XC90 (2003-2014)

    I had a 2008 XC90 and basically same procedure. One sight advantage for me was the height of the vehicle. I was able to literally slide in under the passenger side frame rail and remove and replace. Glad to see that Volvo still has some basic maintenance that can be performed by individual owners without costing your first born at the stealership. This basic stuff alone might bring me back to Volvo.

    I changed my 08 XC 90 using this procedure and it works. I did not have the luxury of a lift but fairly reasonable access even laying on the ground. Although I am not sure if it will work on this fleet of vehicles another fairly common trick is to pull the under hood fuse for the fuel pump relay. Crank engine and it should immediately stall. This helps with depressurization of the fuel system and will help by less fuel coming out of the filter. If you really want to go crazy use a clear empty container under the filter. Depending on last filter change you could be surprised at how much sediment and dirt will show. The filter casing is metal but you could also cut filter in half.....NO Electric tools!!!! Grab a hacksaw and cut clean in half.

    I just did this and it was relatively easy taking about 15 minutes. My 2004 XC70 had a 12 mm bolt to remove the bracket. I used a screwdriver to pry the hose off after depressing the tabs on the quick release fuel line. That made it come off pretty easily. Note on the XC70 I did not need to jack up the car at all access was pretty easy. One obstacle was reinstallation that giving the two sides of the bracket together while putting in the bolt was very difficult. I ended up using a temporary clamp to hold it together and then put the bolt through. The great video very helpful and gave me the courage to do this. Thank you again FCP and Jay

    Very easy to do this job road side. Just put rear wheel up on a curb. UNDO the bolt first to lower the cage/filter .remove pump fuse and crank engine so you release the pressure pressure !!! Otherwise it does spray out a bit . then after brushing all the dirt away to make the connectors clean etc .Then remove filter .Fit new filter .Crank engine to check for leaks .Fit cage back on .Refit bolt . 10 mins max !

    The detailed nerd in me...the filter bracket in this instance was fairly well rusted - Northeast road salt most likely. While no need to resolve for instructional purposes. I would have either replaced or reconditioned with an enamel paint. Also any guidance on potential issues with hoses - connectors, or hose itself. Would be helpful to know what is involved to replace or repair.

  • @tommyaleks100
    @tommyaleks100 4 года назад +3

    Release the pressure before removing the first line. 2 ways to do this. 1: Remove the fuel fuse and let the car run until it stops. 2. push the pin back on the fuel rail. This guy does not do it right at all. because of he`s doing you got fuel all over the place and on to you and that is not good. it also a risk to take because of hot exhaust. if you do this on the ground it will be even worse.

      I would change all filters (oil, fuel, air, cabin air), and clean throttle body. I just took mine out it was filthy. Check the pipe under the MAF box, 2 easy clamps - if there is oil in it your throttle body needs cleaning. Also, check your sparkplugs (volvo oem work best) and coil packs.

    Hi, can a fuel filter (S60 2006 2.5T) be the cause for a detected fuel pressure problem (P0089 code) ? I don't see any obvious problem with the car performing at all but still get that code even if I have replaced the Fuel pressure regulator . Please advise, Thanks

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  5 лет назад

      Fuel filter is inexpensive enough and easy enough to replace to rule it out of the equation plus its a maintenance item. Chances are it may also be a fuel pressure sensor, fuel pump, or Fuel pump control module. It's a tough one to gauge without diagnosing.

      Thanks, I will start with replacing the filter tomorrow and will see if I still get a code.

    Under acceleration my s60r begins to studder and will idle funny when coming to a stop. Could this be a fuel filter or spark plugs? Its not poping any codes and when I use scan tool nothing shows either. Please help.

      Hi Logan, it sounds like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere. I would bring it to a trusted shop to get it diagnosed, they can smoke test the whole intake system and find where the vacuum leak if that is the issue.

      @@fcpeuro Also too add on when looking at my code scanner it shows vacuum pressure would I be able to notice a leak there if I was to watch it could it tell weither or not?

      @@loganberry7754 The best way to check is to get the system smoke tested, that way you can actually see where the leak is coming from.

    Hie guy I'm looking for Volvo xc60 T6 fuel filter location

  • @DavidBello
    @DavidBello 3 года назад

    Changing it shouldn't improve economy at all... Fuel filter protects injectors; It's just part of regular maintenance, and unless your filter is reallllyyy clogged up and fuel pressure is low, the car should run the same, no?

    If you remove the pipe from the fuel fitter does the fuel pore out?

    • @beatles5445

      It won't pour the entire gas tank out. But a little gas will spill out. Shouldn't be more than 500ml / 2 US cups. And Jay is absolutely right here, you don't want gasoline in your eyes or sinuses. It's very painful

      If you can´t find it under the car, then your car has a steel tank and the filter is built in the tank...and no need for replacing such model of filters
