Washington lawmakers aim for felony charges for Sea-Tac protest highway obstructions

  • Some state lawmakers are trying to make it a felony crime to intentionally obstruct Washington highways.
This comes after pro-Palestinian protesters blocked the expressway leading to Sea-Tac International Airport for three hours Monday. Some Sea-Tac travelers trying to catch flights left their cars and opted to walk to the terminal in hopes of making their flights.
Cars and people blocked the roadway - including a group of protesters who used a piping device called a "Sleeping Dragon" to lock their arms together.
The group is demanding a permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, and their protest was part of a larger coordinated effort nationwide to protest the war in Gaza together on April 15.

It’s about making people feel sympathetic to your cause and grow your community. When your community grows, the power to change things also grows 🤯. All publicity is NOT good publicity for protests. A small group of people are not going to make a change for their cause affecting the majority of people. You must inspire. You must have a majority of the population supporting you (whether it be a majority of a minority’s population AND/OR a majority of the country) to truly make a change and SUCCESSFULLY protest. This is not a protest. This is people feeling entitled to impose on others freedoms. So in the future these people should remember, you’re not gonna do anything about your problem in a day. Be persistent. If you’re persistent and patient, you will likely make a difference. If you’re just going out to cause as much trouble as possible every time, you’ve already failed rule number 1 of protesting. Remember… patience and persistence. MLK didn’t get to march in DC after one protest. He slowly built his reputation and supporters for his cause. If you’re likable enough, even people who don’t relate will support your movement. Blocking others is not likable.
