    That was a very nice, clear explanation. Do you have a favorite reference that goes into this topic in greater detail?

      Not in English. I read some articles in German on string vibration and musical sound. That combined with what can be experimented on the guitar directly with harmonics and picking points, e voilà.
      So reference should be any writing on musical physics and string vibration.

      Gary, I just came across a dissertation on my topic here: it's from 2004 by Caroline Traube (McGill University Montreal, Canada) entitled "An Interdisciplinary Study of the Timbre of the Classical Guitar". You can find a download link from the University searching the title of the dissertation. 🙂
