अगर हम सारे पशु-जगत में खोजने जाएं, तो गाय के पास जैसी आत्मा दिखाई पड़ती है, वैसी किसी दूसरे पशु के पास दिखाई नहीं पड़ती। अगर हम गाय की आंख में झांकें, तो जैसी मानवीयता गाय की आंख में झलकती है वैसी #मानवीयता किसी दूसरे पशु की आंख में नहीं झलकती। जैसी #सरलता, जैसी #विनम्रता गाय में दिखाई पड़ती है वैसी किसी दूसरे पशु में नहीं दिखाई पड़ती है। आत्मिक दृष्टि से गाय विकसिततम मालूम पड़ती है, समस्त पशु-जगत में। उसकी आत्मिक गुणवत्ता साफ स्पष्ट रूप से सर्वाधिक विकसित मालूम पड़ती है। उसका यह जो विकसित होना है, यह भी प्रमाण बन सकता है, खयाल दे सकता है कि अगला चरण गाय का जो होगा, वह आत्मिक छलांग का होगा। बंदर की अगर हम शारीरिक बेचैनी समझें, तो हमें खयाल में आ सकता है कि यह जल्दी अपने शरीर के बाहर छलांग लगाएगा। यह रुक नहीं सकता। यह इसी शरीर से राजी नहीं हो सकता। बंदर राजी ही नहीं है किसी चीज से। वह पूरे वक्त बेचैन और चंचल और परेशान है। आपने ध्यान किया, जब बच्चे पैदा होते हैं तो उनकी आंखों में गाय का भाव होता है और शरीर में बंदर की व्यवस्था होती है। छोटे बच्चे को देखें, तो शरीर तो उसके पास बिलकुल निपट बंदर का होता है, लेकिन आंख में झांकें तो गाय की आंख होती है।
इसलिए मैं कहता हूं कि गाय को मां कहने का कारण है। यह सिर्फ कृषि-प्रधान होने की वजह से ऐसा नहीं हुआ। इसके "साइकिक', इसके बहुत मानसिक खोजों का कारण है। अब दुनिया में जब "साइकिक रिसर्च' बढ़ती चली जाती है, तो मैं नहीं समझता हूं कि बहुत देर लगेगी कि इस देश की इस खोज को समर्थन विज्ञान से मिल जाए। बहुत देर नहीं लगेगी, समर्थन मिल जाएगा।
कठिनाई क्या होती है?
अगर हम हिंदुओं के अवतार देखें तो हमें खयाल में आ सकता है। हिंदुओं का अवतार मछली से शुरू होता है और बुद्ध तक चला जाता है। पहले यह बात बड़ी मुश्किल की थी कि मछली का अवतार! मत्स्य का अवतार! पागल तो नहीं हैं आप! लेकिन अब जब विज्ञान और जीवशास्त्र कहता है कि जीवन का पहला अस्तित्व मछली से शुरू हुआ, तब हमें बड़ी मुश्किल पड़ जाती है। अब आज मजाक नहीं उड़ा सकते इस बात का। आज इस बात का मजाक उड़ाना मुश्किल हो गया, क्योंकि विज्ञान कहने लगा। और विज्ञान की कुछ ऐसी छाप है हमारे मन पर कि फिर हम मजाक नहीं उड़ा सकते। विज्ञान कहता है कि मछली ही शायद पहला जीवन का विकसित रूप है। फिर मछली से ही सारा विकास हुआ। मछली इस देश ने पहला अवतार माना है--अवतार का कुल मतलब होता है, चेतना का अवतरण। शायद मछली पर जीवन-चेतना पहली बार उतरी। इसलिए मछली को अवतार कहने में बुरा नहीं है। यह भाषा धर्म की है। और जब विज्ञान कहता है कि मछली पहला जीवन मालूम पड़ती है, तब भाषा उसके पास विज्ञान की हो जाती है। हमारे पास एक अवतार और भी अदभुत है--नरसिंह अवतार। जो आधा पशु और आधा मनुष्य का अवतार है। जब डार्विन कहता है कि बीच में कड़ियां रही होंगी जो आधी पशुता की और आधी मनुष्यता की रही होंगी, तब हमें कठिनाई नहीं होती, लेकिन नरसिंह अवतार को पकड़ने में कठिनाई होती है। वह भाषा धर्म की है। लेकिन उसके भी पीछे गहन अंतर्दृष्टियां समाविष्ट हैं।
