- The 3DO console is one of my favorite retro gaming pieces of hardware around filled with some of my favorite retro games but the internet will tell you the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer was a failure and one of the worst game consoles of all time...and that just isn't true! Sure its no PS1 or Sega Saturn...but it started the 3D revolution in video gaming and still has some serious 3DO hidden gems on it! One game I personally consider one of the best video games ever!
So let's take a look at the actual 3DO Console, talk about whether if you should consider 3DO worth it, the best 3DO games, the 3DO M2 hardware and the history of the 3DO Console! Now if we could just get a MiSTer FPGA 3DO core!

I think 3DO keeps getting confused with the Philips CDI by people who never tried both in that generation.
Man, my FZ-1 with Xport ODE is one of my favorite pieces of gaming I own. I introduced it to a friend of mine and he loved it. We played some fighting games, Return Fire, Road Rash and even Star Fighter. Was a blast of afternoon!
It’s so good with the ODE
3DO stands proud, knowing it's not the CDi.
Haha poor CD-I. It did try
Still holding out for a MiSTer core! - C'mon fpga developers we need this!
I feel like it’ll happen
More likely to be a Mars core I think. Due to how the dual port vram works in the 3DO its not clear the MiSTer can handle it.
I’m sure some trickery could be done
I’m sure some trickery could be done
@@VideoGameEsoterica We thought the Saturn, PS1 and N64 weren't going to end up on MiSTeR, so here's hoping the 3DO can get on there too.
I got my 3DO in 1993 when released for $700. Awesome games at the time. Love Monster Manor played in the dark with great sound system with my girl not exactly sober.
Monster Manor will be showing up on the playlist :)
I truly love how personal your enthusiasm for the 3DO is, and how you have such cool stories and ephemera for it!
Thanks. Just one of those systems that got it’s hooks into me back in the day and intrigued me enough to stick with it
Wow, that Killing Time box art is stunning! It looks like a vintage oversized horror VHS. I also love the handwritten map.
The art is some of my favorite gaming art of all time
I miss the effort that was put into manuals and inserts. I actually read them.
Same. It’s such a bummer they basically don’t exist any more
Hopefully you cover my all-time favorites that are still locked to this console: Iron Angel of the Apocalypse and its sequel.
Will have to wait and see :)
hey i'm in Chicago too. Subscribing. I just bought a 3DO for cheap off ebay and modded it to use an ODE since the drive didn't work. really cool system.
Nice. Fellow Chicagoan and 3DO fan. That means there’s at least two of us 🤣
Back in the 90s, I only got to play a 3DO a few times and that was a Goldstar unit that set up like a kiosk, and even that was a couple of years after the launch. It was absolutely out of our price range at launch, and by the time I got to play that Goldstar model (think that was in '95), I simply wasn't as interested anymore as I was when being wow'd by magazine articles. But, I always thought it was a cool system. I never sought one out later in the 90s, and though I saw an FZ-1 at a game shop during college in the earlly 00s, I wasn't really in the market to buy one at the time, especially since I was busy buying too many GC and XBox games I could barely afford. However, I had got interested in the Lynx at one point in the latter half of the 00s after Dave Morse passed away and was surprised to see that RJ Micah, Dave Morse, and Dave Needle had worked on the 3DO as well. It had just never been history that I had looked in to, but I started looking at some more stuff on the 3DO around then.
But, I didn't actually buy a 3DO until after finally hearing the Wolfenstein 3d 3DO CD soundtrack on youtube. I had always planned on getting that port if I got a 3do because I love Wolf 3d, but when I heard that amazing soundtrack, I went straight to ebay and started looking for one. I wanted an FZ-10 because I had loved how it looked in pictures, so that's what I ended up with: for $165, a bundle with a US FZ-10 complete in box along with a standard Panasonic 3-button controller, a 6-button "Gamepad 6" from Performance/Interact (not great for SF2 because the center-top button is mapped to the pause button; I just disabled mine, but it'd probably be better to try to re-map it), and 6 (well, 7) games (2 copies of Gex, Trip'd, Myst, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Samurai Shodown, and BladeForce [I had never heard of this, but it was surprisingly fun and looks quite nice for the system]). I've not expanded much beyond those, but I also bought Road Rash, Way of the Warrior (I had always wanted this after seeing the huge review in "VideoGames" magazine here in the states), and, of course, Wolfenstein 3d. Though I'd played tons of booh the shareware and first 3 episodes of Wolf 3d on PC starting on my uncles 286 then our 486...this is absolutely my favorite version of the game. It looks good and runs well, and that soundtrack is just great. I love Bobby Prince's original adlib soundtrack, but the CD soundtrack in the 3do version quickly became my preferred music for the game. It's too bad Burger Becky didn't get more time to put into DooM though at least we've got to see some potential with Bugo's optidoom. On the homebrew front beyond optidoom and Biofury, Shaun's MK2 port has got me extremely hyped up. My favorite game of all time now on the 3DO and coming along better than Probe's Saturn and PSX ports? Toasty!
I would say that along with Wolf 3D and SSF2T, my favorite games on the 3DO are Twisted, Slam 'N Jam '95, and Road Rash but there are plenty of fun and/or interesting games.
I've had such a bad few months and haven't kept up with anything, but I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what you cover in this series.
It’s so funny like 1/10 people had the goldstar or only saw it. I never saw one until way past the 3DOs effective life
The most underrated and most fascinating console of the 90's, IMO. It had interesting and innovative features way ahead of its time; terrific versions of many popular games (SF II, Samurai Showdown, AItD, Mist, Need For Speed, etc). Too bad the insane retail price doomed it from the start.
Clearly I agree with all of this haha
But the 3DO barely had any shoot ‘em ups on it at all. Not even in the cancelled games lineup. I guess potential arcade ports like Thunder Cross, R-Type Leo, Truxton II/Tatsujin Ou, Dogyuun or Mahou Daisakusen weren’t even considered for the 3DO. I more so would’ve wanted them for the Saturn or PlayStation. Well, it did have something like TSS on it as a mini game as part of some party game and there were a couple of rail shooters like Total Eclipse.
There’s a few but it’s thin
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, that’s true.
@@zexalsrevenge511The 3DO suffered from the "CD-Rom"-craze from the beginning of the 90s and the exorbitant retail prize at start. Strangely most games that were ok for the system were either arcade ports (SF2, Samurai Shodown) or exclusive titles (Road Rash, Need for Speed). All in all the system had more potential than the jaguar, but suffered from a way too small and mediocre library
I have always wanted an FZ-1 soo bad. Especially for D's Diner. I have emulated it but I certainly missed out on picking it up in time. Hard to find any audio rips of the mini disc anywhere but RUclips, it seems.
I should upload it to archive
@@VideoGameEsoterica *Someone* should perhaps upload it to archive. In FLAC.
I’ll try to this week
Someone should take the FMVs (I assume the raw sources are lost), bob-deinterlace them, clean them up and do a decent updating job (resolution and fps).
Already done. Check my channel
One of my all time favorite consoles. Got one back when I was 12 in Christmas of 1994. Had Total Eclipse, Slayer, Road Rash, Way of the Warrior, Space Hulk, Star Control II, and Immercenary, which I think is one of the most unique games ever made when it was released. Shame it didn't catch on so we could've seen the M2. So much wasted potential.
Space Hulk is the one game I want to love but never manage to understand. Pretty though!
@@VideoGameEsoterica It's got a steep learning curve for sure. It gets insanely difficult
It’s not beginner friendly
You said that expansion port didn't got used... it was used for an external MPEG card for VCDs playback.
I meant as in M2
Great to hear your enthusiasm for 3DO. I know next to nothing about it, so will be excited to follow your series of videos
Should be a fun time. Every Tuesday for the next ten weeks!
There's loads of JP exclusive 3DO games that look super interesting but I've only seen them on RUclips a handful of times. Super underappreciated console.
I’ll show some :) in the coming weeks
Not as many as on Saturn but I remember one with superhero guy playing mahjong to save girls in distress :)
Nice! Only in the past year, I became fascinated with the 3DO and accumulated a really great collection of (mostly) NTSC-J games for it. I'm always interested in consoles that sit a half-step into the future (PC Engine CD, Mega CD, Dreamcast). I initially got into it to collect all the WARP games (unexpectedly receiving a condom with Short Warp was one probably my biggest surprise as a collector ever) in addition to the better-known games like Road Rash, Policenauts, Star Control II, Wing Commander III, and Return Fire, but as I got deeper into it have really enjoyed games I'd never heard of prior like Killing Time, Perfect World, Doctor Hauzer, Battle Pinball, and Belzerion.
Looking forward to your features on the library.
The Japanese region stuff is fun to collect. A lot of my library is Japanese stuff
Ok VGE, awaiting your upcoming videos to be convinced. 😎
I’ll convince you :)
I loved my 3DO. I have the Goldstar version. I have fond memories of playing Wolf3d, Super Street Fighter 2, Road Rash, D, Blade Force, Strahl, and Samurai Showdown. Unfortunately the cd rom drive on mine failed around the time I got a Playstation. As a teen I dreamed of getting the MPEG card so I could watch Video CDs lol.
Time for an ODE!
I had one of these as a kid. I remember a point and click game called Hell staring Dennis Hopper.
A very fun and strange game in the best ways
You sure you didn't accidentally upload The Killing Time documentary on this?
The GOAT
Great video like all your 3DO coverage. I might not have noticed but have you ever made a video touching on whether or not the M2 could have succeeded had it been launched? I'd be curious know your thoughts
Yes I did something awhile back. Except about how Sega almost bought M2
Only time I ever played Gex was at a 3DO store kiosk in the mid 90s. Wish I could remember where exactly but this was in Ontario, Canada and I feel like it could have been Toys R Us or maybe even the electronics section of Sears waaaaay back when that was still a thing. So that's my only experience with 3DO and it amounts to an extremely hazy childhood memory of a kiosk demo unit.
10/10 would demo again.
Gex is a classic and it got its life started on 3DO in a big way
me: convince me... , you: convincing... cool series ill be tuning in
Should be a fun time
The console and the game not suck at all but the launch price is expensive as $599 if I right you can grab ps1 or n64 for much more cheaper
Also...
Is there anyone ever get 3do that not panasonic brand (sanyo or goldstar)
Most people had Panasonic
I have a Goldstar.
Nice
Back in the 1990's, having a port of Super Street Fighter IIX that was close to the arcade version redeemed any console, in my eyes.
It was one hell of a port. Along with Sam Sho
Love to hear the Killing Time music in the background, as someone working in music and sound production for games today, it was a big inspiration for me as a kid.
Edit: Also always wished there was some behind the scenes/making of footage from Killing Time, it'd be so cool to see some high res ghost footage/outtakes and the overall design process.
Yes I wish we had more materials from its development. The music is great
One of my favorite systems for sure, is the Japanese Killing Time perfectly playable for English speakers? Thanks.
Perfectly playable but all the voice overs are Japanese. Which is fun
I always wanted a 3DO since I was such a huge fan of FMV games growing up! I got a SEGA CD instead which is essentially the same thing, right :) Hopefully you are covering Star Control II. 3DOs port is considered one of the best and some of the assets were used in the fan release, the Ur-Quan Masters, which was officially released this month on Steam (for free) by a team helmed by the original designer who is working on a sequel right now. Fun Fact: The two creators of Star Control II went on to found Toys for Bob, who made the Skylanders franchise.
Sega CD was a ton of fun. Not a bad choice
Yes! It's great. I do wish the controller had 6 face buttons like the Panasonic m2 6 button controller that we never got. Other than that I love the controller. The jp2x is my preferred controller
Yes extra buttons would have been better at the start
@@VideoGameEsoterica Was looking into this just now, as sf2 is one of my fave games and an outstanding port on 3do but that default controller is not good for it (though the dpad is a lot better than expected!) was thinking of going blueretro and a 8bit do pad, but that has 16ms of lag appearantly. So now wondering if there are better options? I saw a snes to 3do convertor but that one is sold out, and well ideally i'd want a 6 button on front pad like md 6 button or the saturn pad, any tips?
@NLSagat yeah you really need the six button pad
@@VideoGameEsoterica When looking on ebay, i guess i don't 🤣 Might get a blue retro, ps4/5 for 'normal games' would be cool and will see if 16ms of lag is bearable when using a 8bit do 6 button pad....with the 3dO being on a crt i guess most likely it should still be good enough, at least for my casual play...
I don’t think you left the link down below I don’t see it
I literally forget 100% of the time lol
I got my Japanese FZ-1 last year along with Fixel’s XPORT ODE… 100% blind leap of faith despite the high price simplicity because I always fantasized about it as a kid and it was too expensive
Hope you are enjoying it!
@@VideoGameEsotericaPlumbers Don't Wear Ties is surprisingly enjoyable :)
In a weird way haha
Hahaha I finished that game back in the day. The only other 3DO game I finished was Hell. That's an amazing game!@@myretronation
I loved the 3DO. I use to rent and or borrow the 3DO from time to time back in the mid 90s. I think it was $56 a week which was ok, between my pops and mom, grandparents, I use to get about $300 a month when I was teenager. I had Total Eclipse, Madden, rented Killing Time, Sewer Shark, Way of the Warriors, Need for Slow (Saturn version I can recall being faster), rented a few more I don't recall. However, by 98, the 3DO was pretty much done, probably last time I played on an actual unit.
Sounds like a fun time. A Killing Time even
Im thinking of buying an fz-10, but unsure because so many of the games got ported to other consoles i own. But 3do is one of the few platforms i havent experienced yet, and i love the overall jankiness and vibe of the console.
Worth owning :)
I'm not the biggest fan of the console. I still have a long box of Star Blade, but otherwise what I had is gone. I do love your enthusiasm for the console and it's cool you can share some very nice items that didn't have too much exposure.
Plenty more 3DO fun coming in the next ten weeks too
@@VideoGameEsoterica nice! I especially enjoy that Japanese ephemera. Old catalogs and adverts are the best.
Same. I collect that when I get the chance
The 3DO is such an interesting system to me. Bleeding edge hardware and an innovative business model. It's a shame the hardware would look far from bleeding edge in a couple short years, and the business model was incompatible with the hardware costs. It seemed magical at the time, but the launch price completely killed it.
I think they should have worked out a timed exclusivity agreement with one manufacturing partner and negotiated a lower retail price for launch in return for giving that company a cut of game licensing fees (which should've been a bit higher for a while to help pay for it). If it'd launched for a couple hundred dollars lower, I think it could have established itself on the market. I doubt anything could've saved it from the Playstation, but it would've been great if it'd had a year or two in the sun. Might've helped the M2 as well.
Looking forward to this series, as the FZ-1 I bought used years ago has sadly never worked.
Yes the business model was what really caused all the issues. Just wasn’t long term viable
@@VideoGameEsoterica Actually I think it would have been long-term viable if it had been short-term viable, but the short term's really where it fell down.
Launch was a disaster and that harpooned the whole thing.
Had they moved enough units to hit economies of scale and generate inter-company competition, the price might've fallen quite low quite fast.
It could never have fallen any lower than “decent profit return” points still. But yes it would have come lower
I knew I loved you......r channel and its content for this exact reason! You, sir, have excellent taste!
I cant wait to see what games you showcase over the next few weeks. Also, if you needed any more validation about the 3DO, check out my Top 5 Consoles of all Time video from a few months back. The 3DO is the longest segment in that whole video covering titles like Return Fire, Star Control II, Need for Speed, Road Rash, and more.
I’ll check it out!
Whoah! Optical drive emu! I had no idea. Like DCEmu for DC except its external on 3DO.
Yep and an external option exists as well
It is my main childhood console, and I still have it, still play it and still love it. It totally does suck, but that is exactly why everyone should play it. :D It's a glimpse of a future that never happened. A console that should have never been, an anomaly with a very strange library, simultaneously very varied and very lacking in certain genres. I don't think emulation can do it justice, the janky controller is an integral part of the experience.
It sucks in all the right ways haha
I owned a Goldstar 3DO back in the day. I had a large collection of games in the long boxes. I’m still disappointed in myself for selling it back in the day, but I’m happy to have a pair of NIB FZ-JP2X which with the functionality of the Mister Reflex adaptors, I can play my 3DO images on the Phoenix emulator. Phoenix is currently the best way to play the 3DO games. I think 3DO on the Mister is certainly possible and it would be awesome to also get a Jaguar on the Mister. Phoenix will also play Jaguar for those interested.
Just don’t mention Plumber’s Don’t Wear Ties.
Haha no Plumbers. Don’t worry
interesting! i try a few
tittles of 3do like puzzle bobble and some fighting games i have to explore more this console.
Def gotta do some more exploring
Hoping to add one to my collection at some point. 🕹️👾
The time is now!

Haha always important
@@VideoGameEsoterica yes it is 😆😇
It’s gotten pricier but not horrible yet
3DO sucks, but it sucks good 🤣 I love this console. "Killing time" is a very good doom clone, but better! (i'm sorry guys) Also "D", "Demolition man", "Robinson's requiem" etc. This console is very unique. Love it
As to I. Clearly lol
I love both the 3DO and Jag. My FZ-1 doesn't have a video mode switch either. :P
Most of them do not have the mode switch
Most of them can have a mode switch added 😉
This is true.
@@VideoGameEsoterica
i got one with the switch from japan, but fmvs are skipping
seems to load games ok otherwise
totally recapped the console (including disc drive!) but it made no difference
apparently you can replace the cd-rom drive with one from certain mac external caddys?
I’d put an internal ODE in
Excellent system for the time. Probably my favorite system of that generation. As a fan id love to see deep dives and long plays of Killing Time. Best fps on the platform and one of the best games on the platform.
Hell I’d say one of the best games of the 90s
Never touched a 3DO in real life but I do remember seeing it on store shelves in the early 90's. Is there a good emulator?
Opera in RetroArch works well
I have so many emotions when i see that M2. I was a true 3DO fan in 1994/1995 and still am today. But when the PS1 and Saturn arrived they just took Trip Hawkins lunch money all day. Road Rash and Need for Speed are games i still play today on the system. But seeing that M2 (im so jealous it's painful btw) i just think what could've been if Trip and Matsushita had just stuck with it and got more money...
The M2 there is just as gorgeous as the FZ-1 in some ways. I remember seeing it in all the colors and was so ready for this system. But then it faded away like the Jaguar, and the N64 DD.
Okay, time to turn on my Panny FZ-1 now...👍
3DO just had that “mid generation” curse. Beat sony and Sega to the punch but by too much
I was a day one owner and never regretted buying my 3DO, it was and is fantastic. Road Rash, Panzer General, Slayer, FIFA and a slew of other games were amazing! Still have that 3DO in my regular rotation. The internet and the fail obsessed generation like shitting on everything for the memes. Their loss. I anticipated the M2 after attending the unveiling in NYC with Trip but it crushed me when it was cancelled. 😢
3DO gets the most underserved hate ever. Entire swaths of retro gaming fans missing some awesome titles cause they heard on the internet “it sucks”
What bugfix in new version of killing time did?
A polygon corruption issue fix
Was never big on the 3DO but LOVE hearing why people do like it. Still don't care for it but this is a great video.
Glad you enjoyed :)
Heck yeah! 3DO for life! Seriously under rated. What really bugs me is when people say the Jaguar is better than the 3DO. Not even close.
Nowhere near close. And I do like Jaguar
3DO was relatively successful wasn’t it? I find it interesting as the main console of the in-between-generation before Saturn & PlayStation. It managed to get a pretty big library of games, but I know little outside of Road Rash, Return Fire, Street Fighter II and adventures like Alone in the Dark and Mansion of Hidden Souls. I’ve heard good things about Star Control II as well.
It sold well. Just not well enough. Then Panasonic came and killed M2 before it had a real chance to live
I'm also a fan of 3D0, even though I don't have one rn (I had 3 over the years and they all broke down for one reason or another, so at one moment I got extremely frustrated and got rid of them and swore to myself I'll never buy one again). However, 3DO core needs to happen on MisterFPGA!
We must have a core!
Message from the future. I've been going down a 3do rabbit hole lately after watching VGE's vidoe about killing time
As you should!
I remember playing the game where you fly into the pyramid. That was my only 3DO experience, but the game seemed pretty good from what I played
A classic 3DO experience
Pyramid Intruder or Seal of The Pharaoh?
I think he’s talking Seal
I love the 3DO and a mister core some day would be amazing. I remember as a kid when it first came out and was way to expensive for me to get and just thinking it must be the most amazing experience know to man.
It was def NOT cheap at launch. No doubt about that. Didn’t help them get a huge install base
I only knew one person who had a 3DO. I used to be jealous of his Road Rash and go round and play it and he used to be jealous of my Sega Rally and come round and play it😀Side note: japanese manuals are a thing of beauty.
Japanese manuals almost always beat the US ones
@@VideoGameEsoterica Same can be said for UK ones. They're very grey and dull lol
Such a bummer
3DO sucks!
Just helping your algorithm.
Appreciated as always!
The FZ1 is such a sexy beast, I've always wanted one but never took the plunge.
It’s never too late
I remember when it came out i saw pictures in the magazines just like the neo geo thats as far a most people got to one the cost of the console when it came out was crazy money, makes me think how they thought they would sell many of these.
It was a bad business model in the end
@@VideoGameEsoterica Honestly it wasn't that the business model was bad, it's just that it wasn't a good fit for expensive cutting-edge hardware. The business model could have been a massive success with innovative but relatively cheap to produce hardware like the Wii, or maybe if Sega had opened up the Dreamcast under that model once they couldn't manufacture it themselves anymore.
@@GreyMatterShadesI thought they did? the japanese dreamcasts say Sanwa Denshi, Asashi Electron etc like the saturn had different manufacturers
Yes the cost was just too high for widespread adoption
@@Vvewa Different situation. Sega paid those companies to manufacture their hardware, which Sega then sold. With the 3DO it was the opposite. Manufacturing companies would pay a licensing fee to the 3DO company for the specs/schematics to manufacture and sell 3DO consoles. Sort of like how any company can manufacture Blu-Ray players provided they license the technology/pay a fee to the Blu-Ray Disc Association (Thanks Google! 😄).
I love the FZ1 design it is the BEST console design period. Even till this day.
It’s a classic design and has held up for sure
3DO is not bad console. Hardware was good for it is times, it just do not have enough games on start. It definitely should have more games when it was released. Need For Speed, Road Rash, BC Racers, Horde are still fun games.
Launching with one game wasn’t great
@VideoGameEsoterica Actually Crash and Burn was fun too.
It wasn’t very deep but it certainly looked good at launch
I've emulated Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Road Rash, but that's about it. I must check the library and see if there is anything else I find interesting.
Tons. You’ll be seeing it every week for the next 9 weeks
The 3DO sucks!!!!*
Don’t know enough about the console to make this statement. It’s a real blind spot for me so I’m excited for the rest of the series!
I hope to convince some people to get into 3DO by the time the series is over
3DO core will come soon?
We hope
Best 3do game for me was star control 2.
I’ve never much gotten into it
I trade consoles back on the day (snes, segacd) to end up with a 3do that gave me a lot of fun times, still love it but most of the great games end on psx (what 3do should be and fail), still got one with an ode. =)
The ODE is essential. So good
3do doesn’t suck! Never owned one, recently i bought 3 games for it as they were cheap and minty, unable to play the physical game I installed them on my Steam Deck, all i can say I definitely missed out back in the day 😎
It’s time for real hardware! What 3 games?
@@VideoGameEsoterica I got Road Rash, Drug Wars, and FIFA Soccer, all in the long box, hard not to buy them🤣
Oh yeah I’d have definitely picked those up
The 3DO would have been a dominant console if it had debuted for half the price, but alas, it was so far ahead of its time that it would have been impossible. I personally appreciate the system for its lofty aspirations, but at an eye-watering $700, it was doomed from the start. It still sold way more units than the Jaguar, even at that price.
Yes the “gotta make all the profit off the hardware” licensing model was not super effective long term
@@VideoGameEsoterica My understanding was that the 3DO hardware was so expensive that they really couldn't sell it for any less than the mammoth launch price. The machine was so far ahead of its time that it couldn't realistically compete in the video game market of 1993.
So, are you going to cover the 3DO Blaster, which literally puts a 3DO inside your home computer? It's an ISA card, so the computer in question has to be pretty old too.
It was that Panasonic didn’t get any money off game sales. Nor did goldstar. They licensed the hardware from 3DO. So they had one chance to make a profit…the sale of the console. Vs everyone else selling hardware at a loss and making the profit up on software (Sega,Nintendo, etc)
So as the crowd is quite neutral and of course very sensible on youtube 🤣 i have the option to buy a 3d0, should i go for it or nah? Love sf2, and road rash and nfs have my intrest. not much else i can think of from top of my head....i am not so much into fps so killing time doesn't really appeal :S Oh star control 2 on 3d0 is brilliant! love that (wel melee mode).I also have a mister so have to admit a core on there makes more sense. though i do have a decent hardware collection and i do like the idea of seeing that 3d0 there :D
Do it!
@@VideoGameEsoterica Def inclined to do it, i asked the seller to test the tempest homebrew and a few fave games of mine (he mentioned the ode can be a bit temperamental and picky) , if they all work i am getting my first new retro hardware since a ps one 1-2 years back. The weird is what I’m there for
the 3DO is one of my favorite systems best version of Street Fighter best version of road rash in my opinion
Def the best version of Road Rash
Sadly, the thing was doomed to fail commercially. Never actually played on one - never known anyone rich enough to own one!

Killing Time IS the best game on the 3DO. I am only about 75% of the way through it because it's too hard for me. I get lost in the maps!
It’s def easy to get lost but that’s part of the fun
The FZ-1 is still the best-looking console design ever released.
I entirely agree. I love it
the plastic shells are very sturdy
They’ve stood the test of time
Buy the number of videos and they way he talks about it, VGE really has a genuine passion for this system. I don't.
It's interesting to watch, hot much quality and style, but that's all.
Im almost sure I saw a 6 button 3D0 controller. 3rd or 1st party I dont know
They existed. Capcom had one for SF II
The biggest issue I have is that it looks terrible in 480i. Probably the main reason I don't play it
I don’t think it looks that bad personally
Who knows, maybe I am doing something wrong?!
What are you running it through?
Usually S-Video straight into a Sony PVM-1943MD. I've also attempted S-Video into the Tink 5X with pretty meh-ish results (using the default 4:3 profile).
That shouldn’t look bad. I use S video into my 20” PVM all the time
How many VGA points to I get if I say 3DO is the best console of all time?
Zero. You spelled it wrong 🤣
@@VideoGameEsoterica Dangnabit!! Is it a zero?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Ahh VGE!

I can agree killing time is the best 3do game.
All the cool kids do
I really want a 3do so bad. And a sega saturn once again.

Next video, the Atari Jaguar doesn’t suck
Haha one day
Somebody is Porting Mortal Kombat II to it
Jaguar is getting the original
I’ll be in the port. Somewhere hidden
It's not Mortal Kombat without secrets
Now if someone could port Blood Storm to the 3DO...
Bone Storm!
This is awesome and I just entered my name
Haha
I only like it for Ultraman and Quarantine
Not games I’d expect lol
Green cat pointer does not suck either
No he does not
Only wimps play 3DO. Jaguar for life!
Lol why not both
@@VideoGameEsoterica cuz Jag is 64 bits so that’s like 2 3DOs. Duh. 😂

Is this an AI generated voice?
Marketed as "future proof" :/
What isn’t
@@VideoGameEsoterica That's why i bought three!
One FZ1 and two FZ10's (one USA one JAP)
Why does EVERY game console video use the term "hidden gems"? Please stop.
Because that’s the common term
POed Super !!!
👍
Uh no. The 3DO is trash. Bye.
See ya!
@@VideoGameEsoterica bye
UNUSBBED
Because it blows? 😊
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (to a singer): "You have amazing breath control. How do you manage to suck and blow at the same time?"
Haha nice
I miss triumph
Now you're just confusing it with your mom
@@archive3do769 Well, she has been dead for over six years now.
