A lot of people like it. The best viewing experience is to separate it from the source material, as most live action adaptations should be. But if you lack the imagination to do so, the best critique I found in describing the show is: Good additions, bad changes. The scenes and relationships they added into the show is compelling and amazing for a live action release, but the changes they made from the original characters and storylines falls short as those were what made the animated series good in the first place.
Re; The Game of Thrones stuff - I think there's probably a lot of crossover in the fandoms but I think the key point is liking ATLA and GoT doesn't mean you want the live action Avatar to be more like GoT. Plus the showrunners only seemed to think that graphic violence = maturity rather than mature themes (Katara's anger about what happened to her mother or reacting to people being sexist toward her) or nuanced characterization (Sokka being a sexist jerk at first) or trusting the audience to not have huge amounts of exposition. It's a very superficial definition of mature.
animated version will always come on top no matter what series it would be. because they are longer and have all the space to tell the story more driven unlike any live action who only got 6-12 ep, they need to change a bit of the story, mash it up into a shorter version.
Not quite true... The animated show has 20 episodes in season one, with each episode running for about 23 minutes. That's 460 minutes or 7 hours and 40 minutes in total. That should fit in 8 1-hour-long episodes.
@@TimeTraveler-hk5xo well whats that short seasonal anime that got its live action? the thing with liveaction is they will only target big names in the genre. big names means its has been there for quite a while and it got its own huge fandom around it. and where talking about series not movies here
Avatar is one of the better move actions we have gotten in the past couple of years and it just got a 2nd and 3rd season so clearly people liked it
It’s a couple things that bothered me… including the fact that Zuko has TWO eyebrows 🤦🏽♂️🤣

I think they messed with the storytelling and the characters too much. It feels like watching copied homework.
