    Dealing with the B.S. of having a job and keeping it is actually an expensive thing to do. It costs money and time to commute, to maintain your cell phone, clothing, dry cleaning, all that B.S., never mind how soul-destroying it is having to deal with other people lol

      @@BeatTheBush If you like living around the world you can look at places that are not in the expensive cities and rent (less property management and other expenses) can fund your travel. I'm sure that in Chiang Mai and other cities like Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Kuching, HK new territories, etc. you can get a one bedroom place for around $500 - $700 per month. I commend you on your simplification of life and living. My wife and myself have simplified over the past few years as well. No credit cards...no car payment...no consumer loans etc. We owe on our home (includes a shop on property for our business)....but we are down to three day work week. We spend the remainder of our time in ministry work and other things we chose to spend our time on.
    With that being said....you arent accounting for inflation, the need for car replacement at some point, or even home maintenance (which can be costly depending on the repair needed....ie: new roof). Just some things to consider, but I like the direction you are going. Society has said that we need all this “stuff”...but then everyone waste their life away working for the crap they don’t really want or need to begin with.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  5 лет назад

    10:03 you could save even more money on groceries by growing your own fruit and vegetables, like strawberries and potatoes 2 of many examples, all you really need is one potato that has a lot of shoots or "eyes" growing out of it and a container of dirt or potting mix and you can grow a whole bunch of potatoes with no effort whatsoever. Tomatoes are easy to grow as well, all you need is one tomato to start with cut it open and scoop out the seeds and then dry them out and then you can plant them and grow tomatoes. There's a whole lot of videos on youtube about growing your own fruit and vegetables by harvesting the seeds from store bought fruit and vegetables and planting these seeds to grow your own.

      If you are a retiree then you will have all the time in the world to experiment and even if you aren't retired you can do this on the weekends, by resources do you mean for example space to grow different things, pots, dirt, potting mix, fertilizer etc. because it will depend on what you want to grow, growing things like root vegetables is I think rather easy, but you really need a backyard to be able to grow other things like bananas, papaya or mangoes for example.
      "Isn't it just cheaper to buy them ?"
      If you grow your own you will end up saving money in the long run, you could also then if you want to, sell your home grown fruits and vegetables to friends and family
      so you could end up making money.
      Also if you grow your own you then don't have to go to the supermarket or fruit and vegetable store to buy these things, which will free up your time to do other things
      you will also save money on gas because you wouldn't have to drive anywhere to buy fruit and vegetables anymore.
      Do a youtube search on growing your own herbs, fruit and vegetables to see how easy it is.

Believe me, if you’re debt free, that would free up the majority of your funds to pay the monthly mortgage or pay the rent. You can get 12%+ annual dividend yield from low-volatility common stocks like REITs or even preferred stocks that pay monthly dividends, and insure them against stock depreciation if it goes down in value, protecting your principal entirely while still being able to collect the dividends; even if the dividends get cut you will be able to sell without losing your principal if you do it correctly. 2.5% in a bank account isn't worth it, IMHO.

    I like to do a monthly budget, as well as an annual one. I use a slush fund that is paid monthly. It is kind of like the idea of sinking funds, but it all just goes into one pile. It seems weird to have so many different funds in place. So holidays, clothing and bi-annual payments get paid out of that fund. I have two children that are young and growing out of clothes quickly. Even then, clothing is a bi-annual or even a seasonal expense that I find hard putting on my monthly budget line. As always, love the video and your explanations.
