      Just coincidence. Our house has a white/gray/black color scheme on the exterior. I threw in red to give a pop of color.

    ...given the amount of work you put into the wall system, (which looks SO good that were this my garage/project I'm not sure I could even put anything on the walls) the fact the floor design is not square to the building or the opening is so glaring it would drive me absolutely bonkers. And you certainly put A LOT of work into this.

      @MTNRanger  Год назад

      I know, it's like a freshly painted room. But then you have to me it livable and useful. Yes, fitting the building into the property setback limits, backyard slope, existing trees, along with the driveway all had to be taken into account.

    Floor look great.Well… 11 months now. Is it still holding up? Do you have to clean it with anything other than a leaf blower? As in soap and water? Can you wash it down with the hose? Wow looks great too. Actually better that it is less cluttered than in your wall install video! 👍

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  2 года назад +1

      I often blow it out with the leaf blower. I cleaned the floor last Spring with a mop and soapy water. It’s due for another cleaning. The tiles by the side door seem to get dirtier. Nothing permanently stains, I just need to scrub a bit and it cleans right up.

    • @KevinsHeaven
      @KevinsHeaven 2 года назад

      @@MTNRanger That’s great to know, thanks! Everything gets dirty... but it’s just a matter of how well it cleans up. Great design on the floor. I think I’ve been inspired. One other question… Does it take a long time for the water to dry up under the tile after cleaning?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  2 года назад +3

      @@KevinsHeaven Sure water gets in, but since the tile's design has lots of openings underneath. The last time I soaked the floor, it dried up within a couple days.

    How easy/hard would it be to pull up a random tile in the middle? Let's say I drop a small screw while working on my car, and it falls in the slats...or...since I have a floor drain in the middle, I may need to get to it to unclog it. I saw that they make a tool to pop up the tiles.

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 года назад +4

      You could use the tool or use something like a paint can opener to pop them up. I’ve dropped things and never had any issues. It would have to be a really small screw. I put together my tool cabinets last week and there were a lot of loose screws and none got through. I may shoot a short video demonstrating it sometime.

    Great job on the install! Looks super nice! Is there ANY creaks, pops, cracks, etc coming from the tiles as you drive or walk on them?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 года назад +2

      Thanks. For the most part the floor is very quiet. If there is an area of the concrete floor that isn’t flat (for example a dip), the tiles may make a click/clack sound. From time to time I have heard a little noise when entering/existing - most likely the edge tiles and when the car windows were open. Overall after four months, nothing that noticeable.

    Great video, looks great. Did you consider using epoxy/polyaspartic coating instead of the trax? If so why did you pick trax? I am looking at the epoxy floor for my garage (and Tesla).

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 года назад

      Yes I did consider it. The quotes were anywhere from $1000 more to double what I paid for the Swisstrax. I do like the look of the speckled flake polyaspartic flooring. If it is done correctly with diamond grinding the concrete, it should work out well. If it isn't prepped well, there can be issues with tires affecting the adhesion.

  • @Azulevo
    @Azulevo 3 года назад +3

    Looks awesome! I'm toiling over ribbed vs smooth. I have a 3rd car in my garage on dollies and roll it around at times. I think the smooth surface will make this easier, not to mention i don't live where there is snow. But i like the 3D look of the ribbed. What drew you to smooth over ribbed?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 года назад +4

      The smooth are definitely easier for walking on and for anything that is on wheels/casters. That's the main reason I got them. Secondary was that these were made from recycled plastic. As far as maintenance goes, I think the ribbed will look better with less cleaning than the smooth due to less surface area.

    Calking between the wall and tile eliminated the expansion joint that is required. Rather you should use trim over the expansion joint to allow movement. The trim would hide the expansion joint under the trim

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  Год назад

      Yes, I kept a gap around the tiles and the wall. No caulk was used on the tiles. Over the last two years, I really haven’t noticed much expansion and contraction when the seasons change.

    Will it work if your garage floor is uneven? What happen if you snap the tile together and it doesn’t stay where the uneven area is at?

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  3 года назад +1

      If it is a big dip in the floor, it may be a problem. For slight unevenness, I don't think it will be a problem. There are areas on my floor that are not perfect and the tiles conform to the area fine. It is possible you may get a click/clack sound walking on it.

    Found parts 10, 11, and 12 super interesting. I really liked your color schemes. One of my concerns with the SwissTrax is how it handles dirt blown in or brought in with the car. How are you making out keeping your garage clean and what method do you use (sweep, vacuum, leaf blower,...)

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! Now that I have had the garage for a year, I can give you my take on that. I use a leaf blower to blow out any dirt/leaves/etc every month or so. In the Spring, after pollen season, I used a soapy mop to clean the Swisstrax. I suppose I may have to remove the tiles to do a major cleaning, but I haven't seen the need to do so yet. One way to do this is separating them into groups say, ten by ten tiles for easier removal/resetup. One other thing, if you do tire rotations make sure you put something under the floor jacks to keep them from damaging the tiles. I used an old welcome mat cut into 1'x1' sections.

  • @Mangovideono
    @Mangovideono 8 месяцев назад

    How do you keep this thing clean? It goes to the bottom

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  8 месяцев назад

      You can use a leaf blower and blow it all out to keep the surface clean. To totally clean the concrete underneath, you can remove the tiles in sections and leaf blow that out of the garage. It's been a few years now and I just keep the tiles clean and don't worry about under it.

    do you know if dogs feet and nails are safe on the flooring

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  Год назад

      My dogs have walked on it with no issues. The only thing you may need to be careful with is positioning a floor jack - I use a metal plate underneath it since the front wheels exert so much pressure on a small area.

    • @mikeg3281
      @mikeg3281 2 года назад

      Really nice clean garage.. very well explained

    • @MTNRanger
      @MTNRanger  2 года назад +1

      @@mikeg3281 Some of the small angled cuts were not possible using the miter saw. I used an oscillating saw for those cuts. The miter saw's blade was also not large enough to cut some of the tiles, so I used the jig saw.
