Paddling to Shell Key

Launch address: there's no "street address" for Butler Hole, but if you type it into Google search you will get directions you can use to guide you there. The spot is on the right before the second toll both when you head toward Fort DeSoto, and it is also before the more popular launch spot at "2962-2998 Pinellas Bayway S Parking".
Launching at low tide means walking through a bit of muck to get your vessel in the water. Also, low tide can make your paddle really challenging due to lots of sea grass, the main food source for Manatees and sand bars. Check the tide chart before heading toward Shell Key.

That's the way to go. A ferry out there from North Beach is not cheap.
