My kid brother served 4 years in the Corp back in the 80's.My time in service was the mid 70's. Wish you & yours a good & happy life.
Super tips. I switched out the loops on my stakes and the guy lines on my tarp with yellow reflective cord. Being colorblind yellow is an excellent color for me.
I tried to use the the higher pitch. But it didn't work. I hope you and your family are doing well. I have been enjoying your videos. You have a beautiful family. God Bless you all.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine I have learned so much from you, you are awesome at teaching! Keep up the good work. I recently did my first overnight in a hammock with a group and i was able to apply your tips and tricks. Nobody could tell it was my first time doing the setup.
I am glad it is getting better there Mark. Not so much here in the U.S. I am looking forward to watching your next adventure, with you using the hammock. Some day I will have to join you. You always have a great outlook on life. Ron
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Hey Ron, sorry to hear of how things are over there. In fact we see it on news reports. Stray safe mate and we may get that camp together. Peace.
Great video Marine! I actually use reflect-it on all my tie outs. 6 inch lengths and use a simple larks head through the rings attached to the tarp. Helps me find the hammock in the dark. And doesn't get in the way of set up. This weekend is going to be a backyard hang until the trails fully open. Keep the great videos coming. The Hiking Dovahkiin
I like to hang my hammock far away from people. When at those Hammock Hangs. Finding the hammock, when it is pitch black at night time. After sitting by the fire sharing some tumble juice. Especially during the wintertime. I am so grateful for my Reflect-it. Otherwise, they would still be locking for me. Probably, somewhere in Texas by now. It is always good to hear from you The Hiking Dovahkiin.
I finally got my tarp rigged with some bling and new lines but haven't been able to get out and try it yet. Nothing like a bunch of Titanium and Zing-it sitting in the corner talking crap. 🤪 Keep on keeping on, brother. S/F
I can hear the Titanium bling and Zing-it saying: Get me out of here Grumpy Grunt. I am tired of this lock down. I need to be used. Not abused. Semper Fi my Brother.
You have the clearest videos I’ve seen both video, audio and descriptions. I’m new and am learning so much from you. What tarp is that? Looks like a nice size. Thanks!
The tarp in the video is the Hammock Gear Dyneema Fiber Place. It is a great tarp. Only weighs 9 ounces. But very expensive. The tarp in the Thumb Nail is the warbonnet Superfly. It is a great four season trap. If you are going to hammock camp even in the winter time. Than I highly recommend that tarp. If not. there are a lot of good tarps that are cheaper. Thanks for watching Tony. I always appreciate it.
All of my nylon tarps, have have shock cord. Attached to the tarp. With a little Dutch Bling on the end. And you are right. They do take up the slack and protect your tarp. It is always good to hear from you Kevin.
Nylon will stretch and sag when wet or the weight of snow. Also to protect your tarp. Dyneema fiber dose not stretch. So you will want the guy-lines to be some type of cordage with low or no stretch if possible. It needs to be very taut. Also to protect it. Thank you Tom for watching. I always appreciate it.
I just use a simple Two Half Hitch Knot and burn the end so it will not slip through. And I use a 1.3 Reflective cordage. Thank you Dennis for watching. I really appreciate it.
Backpacking With a Hammock no my plan was to go out this week but thunderstorms were called for everyday. I have hiked and camped in storms but I try not to go into them. I’ve been doing a lot of hammock research. Spiguyver reviewed a Ridge Outdoors Gear Pinnacle which is budget with good reviews also looking at Hemlock Mountain Outdoors a cottage company from Pa. Owner is Kurt and seems to have a great product.
Awesome video! So much great info. Have you checked out the micro titanium GLT hooks from Loopalien? I’ve been using them for a few months, and I really like them for my guy lines.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Not yet. I'm holding off on doing a lot of hammock how to videos until I've been hammock camping at least a year. I'm still a little bit of a noob.
I have many different types of tarps. If you don't mind me asking. What size hammock do you have? Are you a Ultra light hiker or a backpacker or just like to camp. What are the tarps that you are thinking about from those three companies. I would like you to get the best tarp that would work for you.
I do something similar but instead of threading the rope fully thru the loop as you've done.. just do the same but stop at 5:09 in your video and use a short twig to act as a toggle to to stop the loop you created from pulling back thru. In the morning just snap the twig and your free. This way the guy lines can stay attached to the tarp. I use prussick loops on the tarp end for adjustment. No knots no hardware.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine No worries. I use this trick on my tarp ridgeline also .. makes for quick easy setup and take down especially in the rain or when cold

I've used Taut line Hitch for years and years. Then I got lazy and picked up a bunch of the Dutchwear Tarp Flyz. I use them for the tarp and even the ground lines running to the stakes. I have about a 5 inch loop of 3/32 shock cord at each stake that the tarps line is hooked to. It's a line tensioner and in a bad weather lets the tarp have some give to it. I also carry 4 additional coils of line long so I can tie off to distant trees ( a rare occurrence ) in place of using ground steaks. My favorite pitch is the porch mode for the rain fly. If there aren't any trees handy for that then it's the treaking poles ( or sticks ) at each corner and out to the ground stake. Most of all it boils down to just using plain old God Given common sense. MSR Groundhog Stakes are OK but my favorite for the 1st night is a "T" Bone Steak. lol
