- The Red-Purple Bypass (otherwise known as the Belmont Flyover) is now open for revenue service! Crews spent the last 2-3 years building this new "track 5" that will allow Brown Line trains to "flyover" Clark Junction and allow CTA to be able to reduce congestion caused by Kimball bound Brown Line trains crossing through the entirety of the junction, blocking Red and Purple Line traffic.

nice video by chicagoland transit!,,,,,this bypass is called PROGRESS !!!!!!!!!,,,very impressive !
I rode this around 6 in the morning, I have to tell ya, it was pretty sick with the sunrise! The flyover is smooth.
Awesome gotta check it out
Really like it saves time for all 3 trains going outbound
great that they finally got to this to make things more efficient. not sure why some people said this was a waste of money
You can see that it's definitely reduced overcrowding on the trains!
It was a waste of money because it cost 2 billion dollars. With all the corruption and pork in Chicago it's impossible for them to build anything that doesn't cost 100x what it's supposed to.
"FINALLY"!! Looks Excellent👌👌👌👌! Now, I wonder what this new configuration looks like from street level, especially at the intersection of Clark and Buckingham Place? Ooops.....That was a stupid question. If I had looked at the COMPLETE video, I wouldn't have needed to ask that question😆!
Absolutely incredible. A feast for the eyes .
7:42 I did see the Purple train switch to the express track just past the control tower. Will the former Kimball bound 'Brown line' track be kept as Emergency/backup/storage track ? It looks like it; it is still there. Aarre Peltomaa
0:51 Is the former track to the left ripped out ? Do Purple trains northbound take the X crossover next to the tower to get to the outside express track ?
Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario
I remember this area the last time I was in Chicago....7:12 definitely highlights the reason for this bypass!!!! Its going to be interesting how they're going to do the next phase of the project
what's their next phase?
There is no next phase its done took 3-4 years to make that bypass
The next phase is rebuilding Clark Junction and straightening out the tracks north of the junction.
@@ChicagolandTransit aaaahhhh ok when are they estimated to finished that ?
@@jeffrey7737 From what I seen from a CTA presentation, they're talking about 2025. I would think they're better off closing that area and running shuttle buses instead of spending money and building temporary structure
Now how long until they complete the red line extension
They couldnt move or modify the signal tower?
You should have rode it to next stop
Which is?
@@ChicagolandTransit you seriously asking that? It would been cool to see it move through the flyover but what you did was cool too.
It would have been cool also if you watched the full video. That's why I asked....
@@ChicagolandTransit I will watch again and will stand corrected to that
👍
Woooooo it's finally been complete it awesome recording right there I can't wait to see you in person.
Dont forget the xmas trains their back this yr 🎅🏼🎄🎁
It looks like north of Belmont all the other trains use the southbound tracks.
I'm in love
I think this was an amazing idea. it looks fantastic too.
Really well documented.
No more delays north of this station. Are they talk about a new underground north of belmont?
No underground north of Belmont
based and flyoverpilled
👍☺👍
