Thank you Richard. I have had many customers let me know they keep their homes cooler and are concerned so now I can send them to this well done DIY setup. You can also include a cup with water in it for added humidity if needed. :-)
Great Point. I have had to that myself from time to time. But being in the basement, too much humidity is usually my issue as opposed to not enough...lol. But that solution works great when you need a littl emore hudidity, for sure! Thanks for pointing that out.
This is exactly what I have been looking for, I am new to the hobby and was interested in starting to collect spiderlings, but was worried about the cold uk winters because I live in a fairly large house and not every room is heated to the optimum temperature and where I will be keeping my spiderlings it sometimes can get a little cooler than the rest of the house. This is great, THANX!
This I an amazing video, because the house that I live in had no HVAC system. During the warmer days it is no issue but during the winter I only have electric heaters. But they are pretty chill about it. Haha. My boyfriend who is not into the hobby was very accommodating to them living in the house when I moved in. He turns on the heater for me whenever he sees it not on.
Awesome idea! So glad to live in the middle of AZ where I don't have to worry about this. My apartment has stayed in the 70s and low 80s without heat running all winter :)
Here's a perfect example of the value of the videos you create over the years. I had recently picked up a B. albiceps sling and it was recommended to me by the breeder that while they're fine at room temp, if I want it to grow it's ideal keeping it more like 28 during the day. I watched this video and MacGuyver'd up a sling nursery for myself (I only used a 5gal as my space needs are low) and holy hell is this an awesome setup. I had to come back, drop the like I guess didn't drop the first time and post this comment to gush about how helpful this video was for me. Thanks again for all you do Richard.
By far the best mini climate for winter I found. Thank you. I am considering entry into ownership, and doin my research well in advance to be kind! Thanks for putting the time into sharing these info videos for everyone!!
I agree, this and Tom Moran's channel are the most informative. There is plenty of fun tarantula RUclips channels about, but if you really want to learn great techniques about keeping healthy, happy T's, then this and Tom's channel are the best.
I know this is an older video but damn man. You are a wealth of knowledge! I love these videos, your husbandry the info its just great. I know these videos take time and effort and I really hope its starting to pay off with numbers and hopefully recognition with youtube and the trade. I hope you do a live Q+A someday, I'd love to pick your brain about some stuff.
Visiting this video again for entering the contest, but I've already watched it! I had the idea to do this for my own collection and was really happy to come across this video with the exact same idea set in-action!
Love the video! I actually just recently lost my first tarantula that my mother gave me but got an Aphonopelma seemanni to add to the collection as well!
Im so glad I went back and looked through all your videos because I live in CT and its already getting cold here and I was just thinking what the heck can I do! Thank You! This was perfect and the way you made it its not an eye sore so I can still keep them in my living room! Im so glad I found your channel!
Thanks bro. I am trying to learn more about how to use the camera and edit footage with each new video. Kind of just learning as I go along. lol. I apprecaite the support and encourgament, thank you!
Well you definitely gained another subscription my friend thanks for all your help with tips tricks and knowledge to anyone reading this this is a very knowledgeable Channel and it is a must-watch if you're going to be a tarantula owner🕷
Nice work Richard!! I live in the cold North East, so that set up would really help Is there a reason why you installed the heaters on top, verses installing them on the back side?
Just got my second ever tarantula, a little cyriocosmus elegans, and have been super super worried about temperatures since my house is absurdly cold. Unfortunately I only have two outlets in my room, and they're both behind the bed, so I think I'll have to pull some extension cord madness. Hopefully I don't burn the house down ,':/ anyways, wonderful video! >:] I'm definitely doing this for my two little babies Update: I actually did try this one out :D it was surprisingly easy even though I've never been much of a crafter, and the heats been kept in wonderfully! Took me less then an hour to assemble too. Not having to worry about bad molts and other temperature related complications has been such a relief :] I'd definitely recommend trying this out
Hey bro, got a question! About the heat mats and the thermostat, where would you place the temperature sensor/sonda cable from the temperature controller? Between the glass and the isolator or actually inside the aquarium? And which temperature would be ideal for slings? Great videos with amazing info and soundtracks! Props
Thank you for the info good to know with me just starting out my collection I get cold easy myself so my house is almost always at 74 or higher but good to know incase I put them in somewhere colder while moving soon
Thank you soo much for this video. I ended up replicating this and it works like a charm. Even bought the temp. controller from your store. Only thing I need is the plexiglass to put in the front. Just one question....even if I put the plexiglass in the front and drill holes, will they get enough air through this? And how big should the holes be for the front? Thanks again!
Tarantulas, especially spiderlings, need a lot less air than you probably think. It is more about air circulation and keeping things from getting stagnant and muggy. I put it in a lot of holes about 0.5" to an 1" in diameter.
I have been using this set up now for a few years and have no issues. Probably had about 50 or 60 slings raised in that set up that all grew into juvies and some into adults by now.
@@tarantulacollective sounds good! Thank you again. I probably shouldn't have started with slings as my first tarantula but I wanted to see them grow lol.
@@cherettecameron i think that is a great idea...maybe not as visually enjoyable in the short run...but in the long run it is a much more rewarding experience!
unless there is a mold or mite issue...i usually dont change out the substrate. Maybe once every year or two for adults...but for slings and juvies, they usually need to be rehoused before I would need to consider changing the substrate out.

Great video if I ever need it! But it was 84f in my city in Florida today. Winter isn't even remotely cold here!
I feel you. I lived in Dayotona Beach for about 8 years. I think I kept my home colder in the summer than it ever got outside in the winter..lol.

Great idea I ordered a breeding pair today, although I dont expect to be successful this will be so handy if I am.
Great info, i did something similar already with a thermo clipper styrofoam box, one of those usually used for keeping food cool during summer
Informative video!
I do something like this with my slings too just smaller scale. I also have a similar breeding box set up for my red runners.
