HOW DID I FORGET TO MENTION: you can always MIX foundations to get a more precise match! i can mix 338 and 340 to get almost a perfect match. as much of a pain it is to buy 2 different shades to mix, it can yield the best results. its definitely easier to pay for 2 drugstore foundations to mix than 2 high end. hope this helps! love yall xoxo 🖤🖤🖤🖤

also you can have a different shade in the summer vs the winter

@Kecia Tshebwa i had that problem with milani 2 in 1 foundation i would wear it a few hours then take it off becase of the itching, im allergic to the foudation which sucks its my shade 09tan. Loreal infallible does the same but not right away i find this foundation dries out my skin and clogs my pores when i sweat.
Update: 2 years I stopped wearing makeup now I'm trying again since I got help in keeping my skin moisturized more and using chemical exfoliation and face washes. I sweat alot so washing that off right away is very important. Now my face has change in shade range still tan skin green undertone that's hard finding in drugstore. I can not find a concealer to help cover the dark spots from 2 years ago.

The fact that she not only went into great detail when explaining it but then took herself to Walmart to show us exactly how she would pick her shade and then Ulta as well, babaaay I am so here for it. Yesssa girl!!! New subbie here. U blew me away with this. That's how u can tell someone cares and really is trying to help her subscribers. ❤️
Another thing I found. Once I find a good shade, I take the bottle in the stores with me to try and match the shade to drugstore foundations brands and shades in bottle. I also take the Sephora mirror to the window and outside to make sure they aren't messing with me and just saying it matches.

The thing about going outside is so true. I go outside, I change angles. Basically I give them a hard time cz I ain't wasting money esp since I live in a country where there are no return policies!!
can you take those samples home?
I have the hardest time with putting the bottle up against my face. Once the product dries it does become darker. I have several bottles here too light or too dark and all wrong undertone.

A YEAR later and you taught me so much!! I do foundation matching sometimes at my job and women of color have the most beautiful skin but can be tricky because of the tones that the skin holds. This helped me be more knowledgeable on how to give them that as close to perfect match that they can get!

I was told the best way to find your undertone is through your veins. If your veins are greenish you have a warm undertone. If you have a blue or purple veins you have a cool undertone. If you can't tell or have a mixture of all three you have a neutral tone. I hope that helps someone.

I have green veins but I'm neutral cool because I'm a medium deep olive. The yellow overtone is covering blue veins and makes them look green. I look terrible in warm colours and golden, warm Foundations look orange on me.
I have shied away from make-up foundation my entire adult life.
I'm 81 and because make-up seems to be dominating natural beauty these I've decided to try wearing foundation.

Mac foundation had me looking like an Oompa Loompa even though it looked perfect in store. Maybelline fit me 335 is close but I’ll have to mix it with something a smidge lighter. Then start all over in late spring as my skin tans 😩

I needed this video so much!! I've got golden undertones but I've noticed that a lot of drugstore foundations are TOO yellow and are borderline orange on me.

Someone once told me to swatch on my inner wrist as the skin tone around that area matches the color on my face. However after I got a foundation, relying on that advice, I realised my wrist is a little bit lighter than my face because the foundation is too light. 🤦🏼

This was my 2nd exchange: the original purchase of Fit Me foundation was Classic Tan (335) - also the usual name of my matching shade across brands - was a tiny bit too light, so I tried Truffle (362), too dark. Looking at the online photos demonstrating the colors, my complexion matched the model in the truffle shade but the foundation was just too dark. I gambled on Spicy Brown (338) and used a cotton swab to apply it to my clavicle area, as you suggested! Gurrrl, it blended and disappeared! JACKPOT! 😄🎉🌈💥 #KeepTheReceiptsNeat 👍🏽👄👁💅🏽

Very informative! I can't match myself to save my life and neither can Ulta! Lol...I have about 12 different foundations without ONE SINGLE MATCH!!! 😩😩😂😂😂. When it's open, I'll give Sephora a try...OR....Maybe you can do a video for us on how to correct our complexion with foundation that is too light for us and foundation that is too dark for us...It would be greatly appreciated! Idk if this will help but elf has this thing called mix to match adjuster. They have where you can either lighten your foundation if it’s dark or darken it if its lighter. They come in different shades depending on your shade and it’s only $4. Look it up on RUclips and see if that is something that can help

I first got interested into make up when i was 14(currently 16) and my sisters had their little makeup collection and me being the youngest girl, decided to play with it. For the foundation i grabbed the darker foundation that they had laying down and it was the Maybelline fit me in the shade 355, perfect shade and i still use it cause it matches me perfectly. My sisters were a little upset i got it on the 1st try while it took them 2 years to find their perfect shade 😂

i have fenty beauty 270 medium to tan. actually my cousin bought it online i guess. she have a very light brown skin i have no idea how she ended up buying that shade lol. it’s Funny because that’s my perfect shade 😂 i always use that foundation for a reference when buying a new brand foundation

I'm watching makeup tutorials and it's just confusing to me because some people use foundation that is lighter than they're skin color while others use foundation that's darker (they chose to have it lighter or darker because in the video they mentioned how they usually get a shade lighter or a shade darker). I came across a few people who had a perfect match (foundation that matched they're skin) but because I rarely seen people who goes with foundation closer to they're skin color I don't know what to do- but this video helped me alot 💞💞💞
im glad this was helpful!!! my preference is either a perfect match if you find one or go darker and lighten it with concealer.

I don't know if I was supposed to do this but my foundation didn't match my skin so I mixed it with my concealer and it actually worked. I'm not telling nobody to do it but at that time it worked for me I was mad because it didn't match and I needed a way for it to work so yeah 🤷🏽 But for the most part I just use concealer...but great info❤
theres many ways to make products that dont match match, lol and thats one of them! mixing a lighter or darker color in or color correctors to fix the undertone! definitely a lot of finessing to get the right shade

Best and easiest beginners series I've seen! My island doesn't have any of those stores like Ulta and Sephora etc that you can do swatches or testing so I would have to do what you did at Walmart with the look and see what's the best match. Trial and Error but I'm sure ill get it after a few purchases

Fenty 385 is my perfect match. Maybelline fit me is hard to figure out. The closest I get is 340 cappuccino. But it’s still a tad bit orange 😩

Hannah Rantan Mac Pro longwear nc46 and studio fix fluid nc47. Milani conceal and perfect foundation stick in chestnut. Too faced born this way in maple(winter) and chestnut(summer). This all I wear so far.

I was always told match foundation to your upper/outer forearm and concealer should be no lighter than palms of hands. It hasn't done me wrong yet.lol. even if I been in sun and gotta buy a darker or lighter foundation.
i've never heard of that advice before, i may need to try it out!
You also need to figure out what your undertone is until I did that I could not get my foundation right at all. Now that I know I have a yellow undertone I've been able to match my skin to foundation

I can definitely tell this video was before Covid~~i miss the pre-covid days. Anyways, thank you for saying that we won't find out perfect shade 98% of the time bc I've have been wrecking my brain & stressing out and getting mad. And MAC has all of these different foundation shades--i only ALWAYS get told "Oh, you're NC 45/NC47." Sometimes I get told I'm NC50. I'm not a neutral cool person.

I would say I'm a shade lighter in complexion, but I have tried Macao (made me red/orange) & also Fenty in 420. I was thinking to try 340 (Cappuccino) in Maybelline, but I'm not sure. What would you advise? I would say I have neutral/peachy undertones.
Girl I'm a dark skin girl and deal with my skin changing from winter to spring and I'm about to branch out and dabble myself in different things because drugstore giving me a drug look lol I guess I have to branch out but who has time to be spending so much on samples

Man, this is so complicated lol! I mean, this thing is not exactly easy. I've given up. I've spent so much money on drugstore crap. But I like what you said about going to places like ULTA and Sephora. They can help me know what I need and I'd certainly be willing to pay whatever I need too to finally get this thing right!
You can also get an online professional to match the best shade for you. All you need is a picture of yourself w/out makeup ands take the picture from the north window.

I have my senior pictures coming up and because of the whole pandemic I have to do my own makeup and I’m trying to find good matches because a little while ago I went to Mac and they said my shade was nc45 (how ironic 😂 ) and I’m trying to find dupes and stuff but online the shade looks completely different and some people are saying not to get a shade that matches your face and others are saying to do so it’s great when I come across videos like yours. 😊
shade matching is already hard to do in store, so i know it can be difficult trying to find shades online/in store without being able to swatch them!

Have you ever tried 358 latte? I watched your full face for beginners videos and got almost everything exactly as you said in the video because it looks like we have the same skin tone. I picked up the spicy brown but noticed it looked way too light for me from the bottle. I actually didn't swatch in the store but did after watching this video and I'm proud to say it looks like I got it right on the money on the first try.

Your definition of warm vs cool undertones was correct....because warm undertones are usually orange/red/yellow while cool undertones are blue or pale in comparison....olive undertones are your green tones that tend to lean on the neutral side

the one big issue i have is that my neck and my arms are a different shade than chest and i have discoloration on my face in most areas. not to mention my shade change throughout the year so rn my skin is way lighter than it was earlier this year. but i’ve been a lot better about shade matching

matte is the finish of a foundation (matte is going to be without shine - good for people with oily skin, satin is more skin-like which is decent for those going for a natural look or with combo skin, and dewy is going to give off a glow - good for people with dry skin)
