Australian dream-pop legends The Church bless an intimate audience at KCRW’s Annenberg Performance Studio with the first-ever American performance of new material from their 26th album, The Hypnogogue. The band’s unmistakable blend of lush atmospherics and diamond-edged rock ’n’ roll remains as intoxicating as ever.
And frontman Steve Kilbey remains as audacious as ever, sitting down (and sometimes jumping up) for a freewheeling interview about concept albums, the occult, and performing at KCRW in the 1980s.

Certainly deserves consideration as the best Church album ever, and the line up is a stunner.
arguably the best lineup...
Amazing Kilbey resilience.
Some stellar muso’s in this line up. Loving the latest incarnation of the Church❤
I was resistant. . . no Marty, I survived. No Peter, I struggled, but damn, this is certainly the most amazing Church album ever. Just blowing me away. I wish you'd see this Steve! We got to hang out in Cincy in 2006 or so. . . the acoustic tour. I have a pic where you exclaimed: a couple of cool old rockers! Well, rockers we may be, old we are not! It's called wise, my friend!
Tim is still in the band
@@MemoryColor True, true. I meant to say: Peter. My bad!
👍🏻 great video, great band , they should be in the rocknroll hall of fame 🤠
Gives me the chills! So good
Obrigado por compartilharem. Que sonoridade preciosa, acredito que estou atrasado, só agora conhecendo The Church.
Brilliant !!!
Damn good! I/we needed this.
Being from Memphis . . . loved the Ardent Studios shirt.
Brilliant!!!!!
The Hypnogogue is superb, maybe the Church's best album.
Probly not , but that's relative.
For me, it's = to Preist = Aura. Pure genius.
Edit - PrIEst
Agree, it keeps hooking me in. I was a huge Blurred Crusade fan for years...but this one is really something!
In the top 25 for sure!
Of my 10 Desert Island Discs (remember tower records?), three of them would be from The Church:
1 Starfish
2 Gold Afternoon Fix
3 Priest = Aura
And damn.. That was three in a row!
Priest = Aura, Heyday and/or Seance, Starfish?
The Blurred Crusade,Heyday and Seance for me.Might have to sneak in the Too Fast for You double ep I have too.
I miss Marty and Peter, but dang if these guys aren’t great. The new album is their best in years
Any way we can see the full set?
always good to see a helmet fan and one in to the church too! 🙂
@@paulcybotron347 Although I do like Helmet, my screen name is from a German fashion photographer with the same name. 😀
@@myzenthing my former photo studio was called Newton-Ummer Photographics, you can work out why :-)
Cuidaros siempre nos hacéis felices.drsde k hos conocimos un abrazo
bloody genius Kilbey
because he has latched on to the recipe for hit stuff these days... sold out soul... but not he
Live version of Realm of Minor Angels and ESPECIALLY this ‘Second Bridge’ are markedly better than the album. Steve goes too far in the studio, he doesn’t know what he has and few musicians do. These songs just didn’t need any help, they didn’t need all the reverb and atmosphere he added on the album versions as if he wasn’t confident in their sound.
So I come here to listen to them again and again
I enjoyed listening to this new Bowie album.
are you aware of the body of work this man and his band have created over the past 4 decades ! all of us are made from what went before , yes even you !🤪
Why does it sound like your qouting other people?
Your = You're? Who?
I used to love listening to no I wouldn't even waste their albums as a frisbee toss life comes from Jesus Christ I think it's so sad and disgusting people believe the garbage that the lead singer of this band Steve kilby said
Uggghhhh horrible vocals!! This reminds me of Geddy Lee not being able to sing well anymore in any key. New album is great nevertheless.
Dang, you are a tough critic. Steve may not sound his best here but he's FAR from horrible. I saw the church back in May and Steve sounded fantastic throughout the set. New album is amazing, on that much we agree:)
