As a young Maori, the state of this country worries me every day. The cause you are fighting for through this bill is admirable, and I support it through and through. Don't let anyone say the foundation of our country isn't important, or a waste of parliament's time. The only division this bill brings forward is the present division you have simply unearthed and made us aware of.
The process of this bill has truly shown that the majority of New Zealand's parliament is close minded and cannot bring forward an argument with substance. Furthermore, Chris Luxon is betraying the National Party value of equal citizenship and equal opportunity by not supporting this bill.
Why do alot of pakeha on these low level RUclips channels, pretend to be Maori? To try and sway Maori opinion, such a lame, underhanded tactic. Typical of ACT party, full of lies, deceit and disinformation :)
Your opinion will never ne shown by today's media. The bias approach of the media towards this bill is utterly shocking!. New Zealanders need to wake up and not be so sheepish to follow this bias media. Well done you for your well explained opinon towards this bill !
Good on you for having the courage to read and understand what is being asked of the country. I grew up in a predominantly Maori Neighborhood (actually, a couple of them), a white kid that ended up in the full time Maori immersion class, having his name on the Kapa Haka leadership trophy at his school. What hurts me the most, is seeing hapu nationwide grow to become some of the richest stand alone entities in the country - I read that the Maori economy is 1/3 of our nations output - yet Urban Maori, my friends in Papakura, Pukekohe, Takanini and Papatoetoe in Auckland, as well as Westtown and Marfell in New Plymouth have been so let down and forgotten. The reparation's to Hapu, which have taken away public funds to the rest of NZ, have actually hurt them, because they have not benefitted from those payments (many knew little of their Whakapapa) in any way. I salute someone like you, who wants to share in a common hope and dream for us all - never stop believing.
@@asiatravel2010 I have worked in PNG for the last 14 years and saw the exact same thing, the ones in high places getting richer and richer, while the hard working ordinary peoples standard of living goes head first downhill, education and health outcomes becoming worse and worse, just how the elite like it...
I couldn't agree with you more. I am probably a bit older than you, but I am deeply worried about my country and the direction it is heading in. Only ACT seems to be fighting for a better future for all.
I wasn’t supporting the Bill because I hadn’t been told exactly what you were trying to do. Now I can see what you’re trying to do. I agree totally. Now I can support the Bill. But please don’t single out people because they weren’t born here. I wasn’t born here but several of my great grandparents and grandparents and my father were.. My parents happened to be away for a couple of years so, in spite of having a background of English Scottish Irish and Italian - with which I have less and less affinity - I am simply just a New Zealander, and proud of it. Go for it.
All citizens should be equal under the law. That includes citizens born here (like me) or citizens born offshore to citizen parents, or who migrated here and naturalized. We are all New Zealanders and we all should have the same rights and privileges.

I’m not sure I’ve heard a single Maori politician or anyone in the submissions coherently respond to what the bill is actually about- the principles. It’s all incoherent ‘we got here first, no one else has the rights we have, only coz we let you in you can be here’ rhetoric. Minimal valid historical references, no vision for a way forward, blind off point hakas… nothing suggests their representatives are capable of having a mature conversation, but the nation at large wants the referendum.

So far and as someone who voluntary made the decision to live here a few years back now, I have not seen or heard any one of the activist Maori politicians makes comments which lead me to believe, by not supporting your bill, that either Maori or any other of the about 50 nationalities living here would be better off in the end - In fact most of the current population of the country would be going backwards in both time and values. So therefore having fully read your bill including all clauses and the Treaty of Waitangi I will support your bill as I think it is the better thing to do for the overall country moving forward for all nationalities who live here.
I love this, it's all about us being together!!! Aotearoa New Zealand is for all. 🇳🇿
Well said ❤. One people, many backgrounds. United NZ for the benefit of all.
Thank you Act.
ACT NZ is really the only Party in government and Parliament that truly represents the aspirations of all New Zealanders. We like to think of ourselves as a democracy that believes in individual rights and freedoms, but if we can't agree on the most fundamental principle of a democracy: Equal rights and equal citizenship then we are fooling ourselves. Luxon has revealed himself to be profoundly disappointing in not supporting this fundamental principle. Kia kaha, David.
So well said !
The present New Zealand government needs to sort this issue, once and for all, the kicking of the can down the road needs to stop. Act NZ has taken the initiative to clearly define what the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi actually mean, and all Kiwi's have been given the opportunity to have their say via the submissions process so now it's in the hands of the politicians to debate it in Parliament at the first reading. Let's hope that the Bill gets through all the necessary readings and it put into an easy to understand law document that gives equal rights to ALL New Zealanders. We as a national need to stop walking backwards into our future and turn around facing it looking at what we are leaving for our children & grandchildren.
Another positive step in the unification of New Zealand .
Well said! That’s all we need, equal equal equal for all New Zealander’s 👍 well done David Seymour ❤

Great leadership!! We are one Nation one People Amen
The intention of this bill is authentic and profound
Introducing the bill now was a great way to expose how other people and parties react at the thought of not being able to use ethnicity as a measure of entitlement and privilege.
Just like the behaviour of t.p.m and the greens are allowed to get away with at the oral submission for the T.P.B.
Literally asking people what qualifies them to speak about Māori or that it is a privilege to speak about Māori.

All New Zealanders have the right to know what the principles are and where it is leading our country Act Party is exactly what NZ needs
The first thing is to understand what the 'Treaty' actually states, interpreting it correctly, which would also include understanding what was happening in NZ at that time, Maori chiefs having visited England & getting a sense of what other people were doing & achieving in other parts of the world, which all contributed to Maori signing the Treaty!
What do the Treaty articles state:
1. Ceding sovereignty (confirmed in a meeting of Maori chiefs in Kohimarama in 1860)
2. Having property rights, therefore private ownership of land for everyone
3. Having the rights & duties of British subjects
Therefore, through signing the Treaty, we became one people - New Zealanders!
Ancestry & tribalism in this CONTEXT is NOT important, as so for people who are American, Canadian, Australian etc! In this sense we are defined by our nationality, & yes, we have different ancestry, so what?
There is only one race, the human race! That is what we need to work on!

I was bought up in a area with a large maori population in Gisborne. Being a small skinny pakeha I had very good maori friends. BUT I have been bullied many times. Every single time it was perpetuated by maori. From the time I was 6years old through into my 30's. On the streets when I would run to the dairy, in the work place where one time my life was threatened. This bullying was all racially based. I was bought up to be respectful and kind to all and to treat everyone as an individual. Racism is a human problem and not only suffered by one ethnic group. Maori on the whole, are intimidating when angered, so a lot of the racist bullying I hear about is made up or exaggerated to a large degree to further the narrative instead of furthering the truth.
Good on you for speaking up, it was raw and honest and I feel for you.

I wasn't born in NZ but my children were. I want them to grow up here. But if the extremists and radicals have their way, there is a huge risk of NZ becoming a divided society, and a far less desirable place to raise a family. Many people will join the exodus to Australia - and beyond, which will undermine the viability of NZ's future. Please share this video as widely as possible to help prevent that outcome....

Whanganui Council is adopting and signing into law that ongoing Councils must adhere to a co governance special entity called Te Tomokanga ki te Matapihi.
This is the overriding body of the Maori/Council agreement of the legally binding Maori/Council obligations, with at this point 3 subset entities that group land etc owned by the ratepayers through Council in with Maori. When you read who controls this, you will find from what I read, 4 Maori representatives and 3 Council representatives.
This I see as leaving the veto vote on everything to Maori.
Is that right in a democracy of equal rights for all?
Time for government to step in, and raise the bar. No more woke behaviour in Councils!!
The way things are progressing around the Treaty Principles Bill, and the fact that 2 of the 3 government coalition partners won't support it past first reading, our next government will be an ACT lead coalition with National and New Zealand First being consigned to minor partners, led by David Seymour as Prime Minister. Maori today must realise that if the chiefs that signed the treaty back in 1840 had not understood the benefits to their people and refused to sign, the British army would have gone through this land and either completely wiped them out, or fought them until a surrender was signed, with far less protection for maori rights that are guaranteed under the original treaty.
Thankyou Act !
To interpret the Treaty of Waitangi in a manner that supports differents rights based on ancestry is to impliedly repeal almost every constitutional law that the Treaty founded; which inherently breaches the guarantees in the Treaty. Starting with such cornerstone statutes as Magna Carta and the 1688 Bill Rights; all presuppose equality before the law, in governance and society. This is the "Queens Governance" guaranteed to the natives in the Treaty. The Queens Governance is not a governance in which the Crown of the Anglo Saxon people places them; or anyone else in second place.
To argue otherwise is to ignore that the natives of New Zealand were given all the rights and duties of British citizens. British Citizens do not have the right to be treated differently based on their ancestry. Disregarding ancestral entitlement is the whole point of Magna Carta and every other constitutional development of the Queens (Westminster) governance promised by the process off colonisation.
The judicary are correct to to say that Maori are owed a special duty and protection; they argue something akin to a partnership and say the Crown must act with utmost good faith. The judicary are correct. Something akin to the same partnership was enterd into in 1215 on the banks at Runnymede; that partnership also included the duty of special protection and the King was expected to act with utmost good faith. The judicary do nothing more than characterise the orthodox relationship that the Crown has with all its subjects; which is not to say that the Crown always meets that standard. For example, a standard of different ethnic rights would require different levels of compensation based on ethnicity for the Crown failings at Lake Alice. Was there a different duty to protect Maori children from being tortured as opposed to European children? Do the terms of reference for aribiters of the compensation settlements include consideration of the vicitim's ethnicity (I have taken to steps to find out and will be having something to say about it if they do.)
Many people don't know that 01 Jan 2004 is New Zealand independence day. That is they day that New Zealand cut it links to the UK Privy Council and became a fully independent sovereign state. On that day, the completion of the colonisation process ended; with its orthodox and intended decolonisation. On Independence Day the Treaty of Waitangi ceased to have constitutional relevance to New Zealand. We are no longer bound by the colonial agreement between the native tribes and the British Crown. We are no longer a colony. Our government is not a colonial government. New Zealanders are not colonisers. We are a fully sovereign nation state and are entitled to chart our own course forward.
Why we celebrate the day marking the beginning of colonial rule, instead of the day of our actual indepence day is beyond me; Australia and USA don't do that.

In the mid 90's I had a business meeting in Ngāruawāhia with the most delighful, charming, and elegant lady, she was Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu. the Maori Queen RIP. During our meeting she expressed her concerns that New Zealand would become divided and that young Maori would not focus on education and family for a successful future.
This should be tought at schools and represented by any government of New Zealand, same laws and Duties for all! all within the Law.........fix the broken Please, go David and Team, you have great people in your party....love these true stories.
Yeah we were never taught the real history of Aotearoa growing up in schools, only this convenient made up white washed version
@TanioraTemete haha the real version of you on the dole, hands out...
Sounds good to me. Let's get on with it then...
David you are going far enough. Ban flying or owning a flag that is not an official country flag. No maori or rainbow flag, no maori wardens, no more haka etc
Jago had more rights it seemed compared to the two young mens lives he ruined by not doing the right thing instead of covering it up
All this maori stuff is bullshit nobody has defined what exactly what a part maori is .there are no full booded maori hasn't been since early 1950,s.
Do some research
@@Ironian-kd6 He did
@jennymcpeake1664 If he did, then he would know there is full blooded maori Oriini Kaipara, for instance, just to name one. I know people in the deep dark depths of Ruatahuna who have never come down from there, Maunga, they live a completely different lifestyle to us. Not only are Tuhoe Maori, but we intermingled with Patupaiarehe children of the mist. That's us true indigenous people of NZ. We know our true history.
@@jennymcpeake1664 he did not, he got told what to say like you all do
@@Ironian-kd6 So have they had their DNA done?
Well said. Next PM of NZ
lol future cell mate of Tim Jago
@TanioraTemeteoh wow still making stuff up. Wicked... you are so smart....
Only time will tell… why do you think they call sex an ACT

Is Seymour New Zealands smartest man....
Most maori are of mixed race yet they recognize with maori forgetting the other race , I guess if following another race is not profitable here in N.Z follow the money while the rest of us work on
I'm maori, Irish, and Scottish. I have been to both countries and met my Whanau taught my family history. I also know many like myself who have done the same. But I'm not in Ireland or Scotland. I'm in NZ, aotearoa when I see my people being unfairly treated and called ridiculous names, well then forgive me for taking a stand with my people.
@@Ironian-kd6 Who do you see as your people? You've got your roots all over the world. Live the real life, be a world citizen!
@@WOW-ed8pi Why ask that question when my comment explains it. It's a simple comment to dissect.
I am sorry for any one that feels previewed because of system that have failed them
Many many New Zealanders feel the same you do t have to be a maori to feel organisation systems or government have failed you personally . This emotion is not exclusive to maori
This is the boring propaganda being spewed everywhere . Many non maori have had racism issues non many non māoris are disadvantage in society also. it is the work we live in it is humans .
Maori against moari fight each other hurt each other and if it was maori system as you think will solve issues you personally have dealt with you are totally deluded
Let the majority of income workers tax paying workers of this country leave NZ it won’t t take
much . Then who is going to fund all the Benefits all the free education or the subsidised housing
All the hospitals .
Just deluded racism, very very little
common sense .
And for one totally over this nonsense let’s have a referendum vote in this country
The right to self determination! The recent covid pandemic has woken my eyes that I, as a kiwi, I did not have this ability to self determination. A mandate stripped families apart, sides were picked. Jobs lost. I reached out to you Act to be our voice. You declined and stayed the path of the rest. Now I’ve moved on but have never forgotten. NZ First will now & forever has my vote
