  • Heather Bublick and D’Andre Carter, co-owners of Chicago’s Soul & Smoke BBQ restaurant, share their experiences as volunteers with World Central Kitchen (WCK) and present the first-ever Carnegie Catalyst Award to that organization during the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy ceremony in New York City on October 13, 2022. Rob Wilder, WCK’s cofounder and board chairman, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
Founded with chef José Andrés in 2010, World Central Kitchen was recognized for mobilizing volunteers to provide meals in communities affected by humanitarian and natural disasters. The organization has served more than 200 million meals in countries around the world, including more than 100,000 meals prepared by Bublick, Carter, and their staff at Soul & Smoke. The Catalyst Award was established in memory of Vartan Gregorian, 12th president of Carnegie Corporation of New York and cofounder of the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy, who believed in the transformative power of human kindness. www.medalofphilanthropy.org, #CMoP
