  • Learning to identify birds is not just a matter of memorizing the field marks for each species. Sometimes we can be thrown off by an odd bird, even if we know what it is "supposed to" look like. In this talk, Kenn will discuss some general principles that apply to recognizing all birds, and a few common pitfalls that we can learn to avoid.
Kenn Kaufman is a freelance writer, artist, and naturalist. Most of his energy currently goes into book projects and painting bird portraits. He has written a dozen books, including his own field guide series, Kaufman Field Guides, and his most recent title 'A Season on the Wind'. We are grateful to our Friend Kenn for his service as a FOMR Board Member and advocate for the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Really great information and I like #11 - admitting you don't know what kind of bird it is. I've had this a many times as I learn more about birds and think this is one of the most important points. It has made me research and study more and learn so much. Thanks for sharing - excellent presentation.
