This is my favorite style of disc golf. It’s awesome to watch such a hard course, something that really challenges the pros and takes them to their limits and beyond. We need more courses like this on the pro tour.
I can appreciate woods golf as much as the next person, but when you have holes, multiple holes, AVERAGING a full stroke over par, I think it's a bit much. Yeah I get it that we need to challenge these guys, but at what point do we say ok, yes the top 15-20 guys are really good we need to challenge them, but you are literally sacrificing the entire rest of the field. I don't know, I mean I didnt think I would see the day that Mcbeth would shoot +4.
This is REAL DISC GOLF talent. Woods are the ultimate scramble test. Excellent play by these guys. A pleasure to watch them slice and dice. Kudos to the course designer, the groundskeepers and the locals. You've created an excellent challenge that a converted ball course can't hope to replicate. This IS FUN TO WATCH.
That’s what I say every single week! And if he’s not in it…. Give me Simon! And if he’s not…. Then Paul. And if he’s not…. Then Kevin Jones or Eagle. And if they aren’t…. Then Chris Dickerson… and if he’s not…. Then a shocker story like Brodie. And if he’s not…. Then maybe Rickie. 🤣
@@ravindrathagunna5778 I do like Matty O, great personality. I also really like Uli… just didn’t add those guys because they aren’t in contention quite as much. Let's go Cole, way to kill it!! Woods golf is the best kind. There is a much higher skill ceiling that can be reached in the woods, to pull off the hyzer flips, turnovers, flex shots, and putter shots that these guys are executing. Keep up the great coverage Gatekeeper!
woods golf is so much more interesting to watch IF it's well filmed (as this was) in a way that allows the viewer to understand what's the lay of the land. a good & well positioned catch cam is make or break.
Woods golf is my favorite kind of disc golf to play and my favorite kind of disc golf to watch. So much more dynamic. It is precisely these kinds of holes and courses that say, "This ain't no ball golf!" This is what sets disc golf apart. And you guys really bring those dynamics to the fore with your commentary.
Woods disc golf > golf course disc golf. Easily. btw Brian, you are now my favorite commentator. You and Nate are a great team; good analysis, not too much cheerleading and some good tips.
Agreed. Disc golf is separate from Golf in that Golf you need to land in a specific area. In woods disc golf, you need to worry about the flight to get to that landing spot as well.
They are pretty good, but Brian gets so excited that I feel bad for people wearing head phones. Also, they could add some stats. It is hard to compete with Big Jerm and Jomez, but they're definitely not bad.
I love the golf in the woods! It's good to see scramble golf! It's not always about how far you get down there. Putting yourself in a scoring position with minimal park jobs. Great shots are rewarded! Love the content!
Nate the woods is where the Magic happens for disc golf and this is a treacherous fun, tough course watching these disc fly through. Thank you Gatekeeper!!! And Brian & Nate for the cometary! Hope I answered your question Nate.
This card is something else! Some of these shots weren't just good, they were "how on earth...??" Nate bringing his A-game to the commentary as usual. Brian's good too but his tone always makes me feel under attack, like he's trying to argue something, haha. Thanks Gatekeeper! Great camera work and editing. Loving the form checks.
This is the 1st I’ve watched of Gatekeeper coverage. Been watching Jomez for years now, but I’m very glad that I chose to watch the GK coverage of R2. Great video, commentary, and insight. Will continue viewing GK. Good luck to all the players for rest of tourney!!
I'm here to watch Cole Redalen. Just watched him shoot a -19 on 22 holes on the 1st round of the Oak Grove Open last weekend at Champoeg. Let's gooooo!
Been stoked to watch this one, LFG CALVIN! Thanks for the great coverage Gatekeeper. For some reason the VCR sound in your rewind graphic is like super satisfying to me. It sounds so clean. Well oiled lol. When I was a kid our VCR made way more noise.
Great production Gatekeeper! Oh so refreshing to hear "relevant" and "professional" commentary - Brian and Nate work very well as a team - lightyears beyond the other goof balls.
Woods golf is so much more rewarding to players with gap hitting abilities and solid angle control. I'll take this over a ball golf course conversion any day - especially with the talent we're watching on this card!
the lead card showed how the course is actually playing and the chase card somehow escaped largely unscathed. mcbeast was like +5 for the round. plus imo nate perkins is always super high and brian is like WHOA!!!! for every shot
And the white putter thrown by eagle is not a p2, put p3x! Calvin throwns tl3 as well for some of the shots called as eagleshots. Room for improvement GK ;)
Room for improvement for sure. Only if they read these comments. People commented about Nate calling it a tactic last weekend and he still hasn't learned
It's been said before, but I want to reiterate how well the Gatekeeper camera crew positions themselves in the woods to make sense of these angles. It is often a bit disorienting for the viewer to watch heavily wooded courses because you cant tell where the "lines" are, especially if its not the "main" line". I've noticed over multiple tournaments that Gatekeeper does a fantastic job framing up woods shots so that the viewers can appreciate how skilled these golfers are. This round specifically was fortunate to have several masterfully executed throws, but the ability to capture these shots seems to be more a matter of skill than luck.
I have always thought that his voice would be perfect for children's stories when you want to put them to sleep and not good for commentary. I understand thought that his voice pleases many what comes to commentary. People liking different things is a good thing though. I would rather listen to someone else, but otherwise he is doing ok. A bit too positive in my opinion. Bad shots should be called bad shots and nothing amazing in a basic 200 ft upshot to the basket.
I like woods golf but Gold was more interesting to watch. They replaced a bunch of iconic holes with generic looking woods holes. The course only had one problem last year - round length and backups- and they made that worse. Northwood Gold was one of my favorites and I feel like they ruined it in the pursuit of raw difficulty.
"Push putting is so much harder to figure out than spin putting." - Brian Earhart Disagree 10,000% Mr Earhart. Pushing is like throwing a bean bag, which is such a more natural motion when compared to spinning a frisbee. I think it's something that comes down to the individual. I have always been a push putter naturally. Spinning it just feels strange to me. Thanks for the awesome commentary to both you and Nate!
@@Rattus375 I know what you mean, but I think the underhanded lob is a really natural motion for most people, whereas spinning a disc was something I had to "learn."
I disagree with putting being more important on tight wooded courses. If anything, it's the opposite. On the open courses you're not as punished for missing the line/there are numerous lines to choose from, so the driving is less important. This means there are gonna be a lot of looks, and if the putting is hot then you're climbing. Wooded courses on the contrary has little margin for error when it comes to driving. That's where the separation really occurs imo.
thats true getting off the tee is most important, but on a wooded course average putts are going to be circles edge and if you're making tap ins they're for bogey. also, most putts will be obstructed on a wooded course.
To me this course confirms that Eagle's forehand is not the best or in top 3 in the world. A lot to improve in angle control, but I am pretty sure he will improve in it.
I think Marwede marks his lie with a cookie at 24:40. He drains the putt and then takes a bite out of it. What a move.
