Version 7 but with the gold border in version 6. I think that would look really good!
Agreed.
Agreed as well.
Ditto
Number 7. The background is a bit busy but with the calf highlighted it calls out the importance.
Number 7. Of everything else happening in the image, the idol is highlighted. Much like the churches being spoken of. Their "worship" music is highlighted and deters the person from everything else going on (doctrine, etc.). If you can be led to worship "worship", then you can/will be drawn away.
Appreciate the opportunity to comment. Can't wait to read the book.
Keep up the good work.
I vote #3. A much better balance visually and aesthetically. Maybe even consider making the golden calf gold in that image as well. #6 and 7 are confusing the way the image is divided yet redundant at the bottom. The others look amateurish. #3 all the way. Blessings on your choice.
I agree with the comments about the redundant nature of the bottom panel on 6 & 7
But I prefer image 2. Maybe add the golden calf. 3, 6, 7 busy.
Number 6 utilizes the space very well. It’s clean, the imagery with the two tablets is impactful and it has enough color to draw your eyes.
Number 5. Has the 2 essential themes in a clear layout. Boxes are usually not a good idea. (I find 6 and 7 distracting with that split image.) Excellent source of artwork!😊🙏
3 or 7. I would go 7 without hesitation if it didn’t repeat the image. Meaning I wish the image was one big image with part dimmed out or if it were a redrawing of the above and not obviously the same one cut off.
My choice is no. 2 clean yet direct to point
I'd say number 3. Simple, clear and clean.
I like 5. It is simple and coveys the main idea. It also is the most pleasing to my eye. This is the cover I would be drawn to in a store by glancing at it.
My picks either 3 or 6. Both are classic themed for a classic reformed view of worship. Can’t wait for your book to come out. I am all about bringing classic reformed worship and piety back to the local church!
#1, or #2 They are simple, and yet communicate the message. THANK you for writing on this!
I agree. I think 6 and 7 are to busy. #1 is my preference.
Number 5: indicates the central themes clearly, and does so in a clean and easy to interpret way. No boxes are necessary.
7 tells the story w/ words, and without. It is balanced as well as eye catching, at a glance. It reminds me of the churches in Europe that builders chiseled Biblical scenes or doctrines into the stone above the doorways for those who were illiterate; So no one had an excuse to not walk through and be saved. Very excited about this book. 🙏
I love four because it isn't so busy, and the gold border keeps it from being too plain. It would be majorly awesome if the calf in that one was gold to give it even more contrast. I think that would have really been eye catching and the gold in the calf would highlight the meaning.
Version 7 and 3. The image is powerful. The golden calf in gold makes the point in a bolder way.
I like 3. The classic picture grabs me and is memorable. I also like the centering and I like that your name is larger at the bottom.
Number seven edges out number two for me. I generally like a clean, uncomplicated cover, but seven really makes the visual connection for me.
Hi Matthew. My choice would be two. Nice and clean, uncluttered. Looks good on the page. No. 3 would be next on my pick list. Most important topic,
I like #3 best
I like the title as one word, not broken up with a line break, and I like the addition of the background.
Definitely 6. It’s just the most well-balanced image. I wonder if it might look even better if you made the calf golden in that one.
2 for its simplicity
7 is also really nice, but a bit busy. Although, the busyness is a good way to highlight the chaos that is a result of the calf worship
I've got to go with #7 as my favorite. Highlighting the calf in gold as correlating with the idol of false wirship
7 looks great.
Also, so stoked for the Edwards Study Bible. I hope you're heavily involved in the design process given your history with Bible reviews.
I like both #1 and # 3. I am excited for this book!
3 and 6. Both look more detailed than the rest which look a little bit like a simple copy and past image on a blank word document but they are detailed while still looking clean and professional
#3, balanced, clean.
Number 6. It would draw my attention on the shelf. Plus it looks classy.
3 and 6 are the best. I'd recommend steering clear of the Times-type fonts for your name and the subtitle. Maybe switch to something cleaner like Avenir.
3 or 2 stand out the most for me. Looking forward to reading the finished product.
6, it’s sharp and crisp and doesn’t leave too much negative space.
I think 7 is good too, but 6 seems classier
Number 6 is the most striking. The golden calf in 7 reminds me of a coloring book a little bit
Number 3. The font is big and clear. Very legible. And how everything is formatted in terms of space, image, text, and color, it is tight and clean.
The only suggestion that another mentioned eariler, is perhaps making the calf golden as well. It would make it pop in background.
Number 6 is fantastic as well. But the doubling of the same image, just crop and pasted below, is jarring. Perhaps if that image was lengthened, so the top is cropped at or around the knees. And the image below is from the knees down, highlighting the shattered tablet as opposed to "doubling" the image.
Number 3. Definitely.
I prefer option 5. A cleaner look, but including both Moses and the calf.
2. Simple, clean, uncluttered.
I like number 7 with the calf in gold. I prefer the gold border too. I think I would just prefer more color over black and white. Looking forward to reading this very important book!
From a purely design standpoint, 3 is the best visual layout.
6 or 7 could work but I would rather have the bottom image be a cutout of the large image, not repeated from the large image.
My vote is choice 5. Simple and very clear. Background is interesting and cool, but a little distracting on a 2-3 second cover glance in a bookstore. I would not be opposed to coloring the calf yellow like you did in 7.
6 is the best, but I also really like the idea of hyphenating the title. It was very helpful to understanding the concept the book is going to present. I would find a way to work that in if I were you
3 is the best of these. 7 is really good. I don't love the duplicate image at the bottom of 7, but I do like that there is an image at the bottom. I think if it were actually split so the bottom was a continuation it would work better.
Definitely #3 If you make the calf gold!! The title is placed perfectly and the color pops. Hyphenating the title looks like you ran out of space. #7 is my second choice👍
#7 - gives the whole picture with all the background stuff plus making the cow gold emphasizes the subject.
Seven, thank you, bless you and yours.
I like the highlighted calf.
#7 is my choice. I like how the cover pulls you into the narrative of the book.
I also like 7. Coloring the calf helps the picture.
I like 2 best. Good white space with text spread down to draw the readers eye over the whole cover without being too busy.
7 with 3 as a close second. Might be nice to have the background a more neutral color instead of white (white makes it look a little plain)
3 is my favorite. It appeals to me the most. Number 6 is my second pick.
Video quality still better than many channels ❤
Version 7 - accentuates the ties between tainment and the golden calf
It's a toss up between 1 and 7. One is simple and easy to look at. 7 with the calf actually golden makes the cover really cool.
I liked 6 and 7. I thought the idea of having a portion of the image below was cool, but I think the top image should also be cut and the complement come at the bottom so as not to have repeated elements. This way, the two parts of the image complement each other without redundancy.
Number 5: It's simple but has all the elements needed to explain the premise; plus the layout is just more pleasing to my eye. Thanks Matthew!
I really enjoyed 6 and 7. 6 more so than 7, but both are good. Really looking forward to reading this!
I like the balance and composition of 3. I would like 7 as well if the text was centered instead of left set.
2 and 6 were my favorites. 2 is good for wanting to be simple. 6 fills the page really well, and I think the image looks best in the all black and white.
Number 7. It give us a better picture of what is really going on, and preps for the content of the book.
2 or 4 because it’s not too busy and is to the point
I like No. 7 Matt. Sets up your theme well with a vivid picture, highlighting the “golden” calf.
Number 6 is the first choice, it really gives you the ability to make a connection with your topic.
As someone that has a good library I have many books already with covers that have pictures in this format.
7 all day followed by 6. Covers 1-5 look self-published.
2 is the most striking and simple (I think the hyphen helps). 7 also works with the broken tablets and highlighted calf.
As a graphic designer, I like 7 best for positioning of the text, wonderful imagery in its fullness. But with that fullness it makes it very busy and hard to tell what it’s showing so the highlighted calf enables that to be done so easily.
Number 3. It makes the scene very clear.
3 or 6, 6 preferred.
7 for sure. Six is also really good but I feel that seven makes the point. A part of me really likes the yellow border around the images though but I think it would be too much with the calf is yellow and the borders yellow. Which is why I’m in favor of 7 over 6.
I like 7 best because of your explanation. I also like 5 and 2.
7 and 5, like the gold color in 7
I like 7. The highlighting of the calf does help you focus on the idolatry yet the busy background also evokes the chaos of post-modern "worship".
Number 7 for sure. The two color graphic immediately indicates tainment is connected to the idol. The enlarged depiction of the tablets completes the introduction and constitutes the pictorial narrative. It summarizes the result of idolatry, i.e., violating the first commandment. 4:35
6 looks the best to me. Some of the earlier options look like they are self-published. Whereas the latter two look more polished. I think if you call out the golden calf by making it golden, there needs to be something that calls Moses out as well.
I choose number 5. But I would also make the calf golden so it stands out.
I like the simplicity of number 1. I think leaving out the image of the golden calf itself highlights that the modern calf is not actually a calf. And I like the choice of golden text. Compositionally, I do like number 3 also.
7. I think it would be cool if, like the golden calf, you were to make the bottom picture of the broken tablet gold as well.
I like 2 and 5 for the simplicity. I prefer the word hyphenated and separated from 2 but I think I Iike the image in 5 a bit more. Both look nice.
Number 2 with “golden calf” highlighted as in 1. Less is more.
I think number 3 is best. The way the image is divided in 6 looks awkward in my opinion, so I prefer keeping it together. I also think having the full image rather than just the Moses figure makes it look more professional. 3, I believe, is also the perfect ratio of gold to black.
7 is comprehensive yet the highlighted calf makes it easy to pick up on the idea at hand. That’s my choice. Thank you Pastor Matthew for your hard work and future resource on a very important aspect of the local church!
I like number three the best. The only thing that I would change about 3 is that I would make the calf Golden.
I prefer #7 because the “golden calf” jumps out from the page giving a clearer picture of the idolatry of “worshiptainment”
#1 Clean and uncluttered
7
because it depicts all the points trying to be conveyed by the cover. Angry Moses, broken tablets, and highlights the golden calf, which may get missed in the black and white. Also, option 7 "fillis" the book cover.
Do number 6 or 7, very elegant, serious, and the artwork is beautiful. Also you could try posting a poll
I like number 3. But I would suggest making the calf golden.
My top 3: 6, 7, 1
Please notify us when the book is out.
I love 2, 6 is very good, and the golden calf in 7 is really cool, maybe you could do 6 with a golden calf but that might be a lot
2 and 7 Jump out at me. 2 reminds me of a study guide, 7 of a book. Seven is preferred. Seven.!
Moses being the greatest sinner in the old testament, he broke all the commandments at one time.
I would say three but with the calf Golden to me just a better layout
6 is the best!
Version 7 because of the highlighted calf. I am not fond of the bottom image though. Maybe you could highlight the broken tablets as well. Congrats on yet another book!
7 looks the best imo but 6 was solid as well
No. 7 - Calf is highlighted, which combined with the broken tablet at the bottom makes the image very recognizable (i.e., a passerby can tell at a glance what Biblical account is alluded to here)
I like 6, but would also add the golden calf as it is shown on seven.
Number 7. Keeps the color coordination. But loses some busy-ness from 6.
7.
While the background and bottom picture insert gives the eye much to take in, the calf rendered in gold does make the reader understand the stakes of what you'll be describing in the book.
Can't wait to read it!
I think I am drawn to number seven as the calf hi-lighted in gold reinforces the title and theme. I will be interested to see this book once in print.
I’d vote #3. #4 is my second choice.
I do not agree with the Reformed outworking of the Regulative Principle of Worship, but I hope this book does well. I would rather have a strict RPW service than the crass and vapid contemporary worship that is present in so many churches.
My choice would be version 7. I like the drawing and to me it breaks the starkness of the all white book.
