- Meet Grace, a 24-year-old who could easily be mistaken for a 14-year-old due to a rare growth hormone condition called . For years, Grace has relied on the life-saving medications provided by Nyumbani’s Lea Toto program. However, since the program's closure in February 2024, Grace's world has turned upside down.
Without access to her crucial medications, even simple tasks like breathing become excruciatingly difficult for Grace. During our interview with her, we witnessed firsthand the struggle she faces, as she had to pause repeatedly to catch her breath. Despite her efforts to seek help from government offices, including MPs and governors, Grace has been met with disappointment and indifference.
Desperate and with no other options, Grace returned to Nyumbani, seeking assistance to access her essential medication. The cost of these medications amounts to KES 20,000 every month, a sum that is beyond her reach. To make matters worse, Grace is also battling with a couple of other medical conditions, adding another layer of complexity and urgency to her situation.
