Just a small piece of advice ,if you don’t already. Before painting your models (resin or plastic) spray Halfords grey car primer first. You will find the paint , acrylic or enamel, will adhere much better to the surface. Good quality Acrylic paint is easier to work with and clean . Really enjoy your modelling tips, especially the wiring side of things. Cheers John
I've found primer isn't always necessary. The bridge sides were primed for example but several other models were not with no noticeable difference. It really depends on the material - Modelu figures never tend to need priming while I've had resin prints from other companies where the paint just slides off if no primer is used. I take it on a case by case basis but even so I tend to use very cheap primer just as a quick base. Thanks for watching 🤩
Absolutely love this series of videos, thank you for making them freely available! I hope I get the permanent space to create a TT layout in the nearish future and these will be a big part of my inspiration when I do.
Just wait until I add all the detail! The general area is looking great but it definitely needs a lot more clutter to make it look like a working yard. Thanks for watching 🤩
Awesome, hope you enjoyed them! If you happen to be around the Tunbridge Wells area this weekend you're welcome to come an see the layout at its only exhibition appearance for the Spa Valley Railway's Model Railway Weekend. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you, I'm really glad so many people are enjoying the videos. Tunbridge Wells... that's where the layout is going next 😅 Seriously though, you can see it in person at the Spa Valley Railway exhibition later this month. Thanks for watching 👍
Glad you like it. Honestly I don't think I'm a particularly special modeller, there's no great secret to what I do as it's all shown in the videos and I honestly believe that, with a bit of practice, most people could achieve similar. Thanks for watching 😃
Awesome! It's set to be an amazing show and Teaton is just one of many layouts on display. If it's anything like last year's exhibition it should be a fantastic weekend at the railway. Thanks for watching 😃
I really like how the smaller scale allows you to fit in 3 very distinct locations that, with some clever camera work, makes them seem alot further away from each other than they actually are!
It really does! At 8ft long this isn't a small layout for the scale but the upper level really has allowed for a degree of separation that helps make the layout feel a lot bigger than it really is. Thanks for watching 🤩
There's no plans to extend the modular layout currently. I've already maxed out the space I have available so there wouldn't be much point. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks! I do think static grass needs to be used sparingly in smaller scales but it definitely works well in small patches like this. Thanks for watching 😃
How is anything offloaded at the Goods Shed going to get out of the yard? There is no way to cross the 2 tracks & the line runs almost up to the brick retaining wall & the other side is closed off by the Double Mainline. The most viable options are level crossings over the Mainline or opening up one of the arches in the retaining wall to make a road tunnel.
Modellers license. The other option was to have the Goods Shed face the back of the layout which would look less interesting visually. Model railways are all about compromise and remember I'm building this layout for my Dad who isn't concerned about realism, he just wants a fun layout to play trains on. Thanks for watching 👍
I've always felt that rubberised horse hair looks a bit overscale for 00 and certainly for TT:120 and N. For 0 Gauge and above though it's brilliant stuff. Thanks for watching 😃
I would have put a road tunnel in place in one of the arches to add realism to make it believable where the trucks and traffic to the farm come from. Other than that the layout looks excellent. Plus Oxford Diecast has now released all the vehicles I mentioned in the last video including the must for the farm the grey Ferguson tractor.
I'll be honest, I really don't like road tunnels. They always look a bit naff to me and unrealistic (even if they're not). Personally I prefer to distract the eye by having little contained scenes so that you never really worry about why the roads don't go anywhere, or why the railway run round in a big circle. Thanks for watching 👍
Possibly a silly question… When you do the scatter for the yard, you do a layer of PVA, base layer scatter… then vacuum? Or vaccum after all the layers?
@@lukejackson8741 First off, there’s no silly questions here. Generally I vacuum after the initial layer once the base is dry. If you vacuum after you’ve added extra layers on top then you’ll just end up removing them so a bit pointless. Sometimes though if I want the ground to look more rough I won’t bother with the vacuum at all to give it a more uneven appearance. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
Thanks, message all received. Things are very busy with the lead up to the show but I'll get back to you as soon as I have a moment. Thanks for watching 😃
Loving the tt120 build and using your tips has ment mine is progressing well when do you think your tt120 dry stone wall will be back in stock. Cheers Mark
Really glad you've found the videos useful. We're making more of the Flexible Drystone Walling currently but there's no estimated dates yet. Best thing to do is keep an eye on the website or follow the Facebook page for updates. Thanks for watching 👍
I was unsure about the finished level of the road crossing you made with cork. Is the rail level still above the road level so that your track cleaning will not foul the road surface? I like the clump foliage alongside the flat scatter.
The outer edges are the same height as the rails with the inside being just slightly lower. If you need to clean the rails on short sections like this then some IPA on a cotton bud will do the trick. Thanks for watching 😃
All that pva glue is giving me infant school nostalgia, please tell me you still paint your palms with it just to peal it off when it dries 😆. Im possibly about to start the process of modernising my dining room, its all a bit mahogany at the moment, but im thinking part of it, if im allowed to by the boss, could be a TT layout on the dining table, we never use it for eating anyway, just wondering If you could say what would be the smallest set up i could get away with for a decent layout?
Not intentionally but messy modelling sometimes gets... well messy 😅 It depends what qualifies as a decent layout as that will be different for everyone. The depth of the board will be pretty important if you want to have something with multiple circuits. This layout is 2.5ft deep and we struggled to get 3 lines round the right hand side so depending on what locos you want to run and how many lines you want to have that might give you an idea of what to expect. Thanks for watching 😃
It's visually more interesting to have it be a separate/private business though. Given that the layout is a glorified train set by design, we're not really concerned with realism. Thanks for watching 😃
The positioning is down to modellers licence. The only other option would be to put it on the back most line facing away from the viewer so a less interesting view and someone would probably still complain that there wouldn't be enough room for vehicles anyway 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Not until after exhibition at the earliest. We’re building up stock at the moment but obviously time is very limited right now. Best thing is to keep an eye on the shop or my Facebook page for updates. Thanks for watching 👍
I put in lots of weeds in the yard and around the track at 23:00. There's practical reasons as to why you wouldn't want to do it between the rails especially in this scale but it's important to note that not all yards had weeds around the track. Thanks for watching 👍
Really glad you enjoyed it. The next episode will focus on the town scene behind the station which is the last major scenic area to completed! Thanks for watching 😃
We're not trading at the Spa Valley Exhibition, just showing the layout. Keep an eye on the shop but for the wire fencing in particular it'll be sooner rather than later. Thanks for watching 😃
No plans to currently. The intention is to support the TT:120 community as much as possible initially since there's already quite a lot of choice out there for 00. Thanks for watching 😃
The final episodes have all been filmed. Obviously things have been very busy with the exhibition and editing takes a lot of time but the next episode will be available for Members soon. Thanks for watching 👍
Haha, sure 😂 Just ignore the majority of the techniques shown in this video to focus on the couple of minutes where I talk about sponsors so that I can keep making these videos. All these techniques can be used with any brand you like of course but I guess that's not important is is.

MS Models feature some of my completed buildings on their Gallery page.
Hi John, good work. Just checked out ms models gallery. Have you thought of sharing your skills via RUclips?
Absolutely love this series of videos, thank you for making them freely available! I hope I get the permanent space to create a TT layout in the nearish future and these will be a big part of my inspiration when I do.
Really glad you're enjoying the videos and best of luck with your future layout! Thanks for watching 😃
Wow, it’s really coming together, that yard looks amazing, probably the best looking bit so far
Just wait until I add all the detail! The general area is looking great but it definitely needs a lot more clutter to make it look like a working yard. Thanks for watching 🤩
Binged watched all the episodes so far today. Layout looks great.
Awesome, hope you enjoyed them! If you happen to be around the Tunbridge Wells area this weekend you're welcome to come an see the layout at its only exhibition appearance for the Spa Valley Railway's Model Railway Weekend. Thanks for watching 😃
Keep this great content going, can’t wait to see where this goes next

This is fantastic. You are so good at what you do. Hats off!

Really impressive techniques and good to see how the layout is developing. Hoping to see it at Spa Valley Railway.
Thanks Nigel! Would be fantastic to see you at the show, please do say hello if you can come along. Thanks for watching 🤩
Can't wait to see you do some more modules for you 00 layout!
There's no plans to extend the modular layout currently. I've already maxed out the space I have available so there wouldn't be much point. Thanks for watching 😃
Smashingbwork on the goods yard, good call about the static grass, finishes it off nicely 😀
Thanks! I do think static grass needs to be used sparingly in smaller scales but it definitely works well in small patches like this. Thanks for watching 😃
Great update!
Really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😃
I'm now thinking of doing a small diorama with a level crossing on to try your method 😁
Awesome! I really only used the cork and filler because that's what I had to hand but it's actually worked out quite well. Thanks for watching 😃
Darn, sorry I missed the live stream, but I must say the layout is looking very smart now, very convincing. You've got my vote!
No worries, glad you think so and thank you so much for voting! It really means a lot. Thanks for watching 😃

I thought similar. It does need a tunnel to make it believable.

Looking good another thing you can use for scenics is rubberised horse hair

Looks brilliant and I can’t wait to see it on the 21st 😁
Hopefully we put on a good show for you! Should be another great exhibition this year. Thanks for watching 🤩
I’m ur biggest fan
Ok the rest of you can all go home now 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks you, nice unobtrusive music. Very James Fox (Ghost Train)

coal stage should be next to the track the wagons would be unloaded in to them from the closed side with bags & road wagons loaded from the open side
coal would not be move twice to get in to the stage
It's visually more interesting to have it be a separate/private business though. Given that the layout is a glorified train set by design, we're not really concerned with realism. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video. I love how you're using the powders. However, how will the vehicles get to the doors of the goods shed?
The positioning is down to modellers licence. The only other option would be to put it on the back most line facing away from the viewer so a less interesting view and someone would probably still complain that there wouldn't be enough room for vehicles anyway 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

I already did: ruclips.net/p/PLrxCs5t2Fkmw8dxnmLWYFXSATz2DVFS3F Thanks for watching 😃

I know u mentioned it in one of the past videos, are u going to do a oo gauge version of the retaining wall

What is the progress of episode 11

Bro is playing minecraft irl
Haha, I feel like Minecraft would be a lot less stress 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

More on time than most trains in this country though 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Your channel is more of a sales pitch for yourself and sponsers. I thought you will teach how to do things. Sorry you are not my kind.
