I was there. I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, and a bunch of us from the base went. Loved Def Leppard and The Scorpions the best form that night. Rick Allen did not miss a beat.

I was born in 1987 so I didn’t get into Def Leppard until well after their prime. That said, I was there

I want to know where the actual introduction is, though. I want to hear the crowd explode like they explain in their interviews.

3:21 when Joe says "Mr. Ricky Allen on the drums." The cheering does not come across so well on the recording. But that is the moment. Also doesn't sound as dramatic as when they talk about it.

You had to be there to really experience it greg. I was and we went absolutely MENTAL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a day it was. I'm 54 now and i was 22 back then. I cried because we didn't think rick would ever play again after losing his arm. He got up off his arse and re- learned how to play with a semi electronic kit. The man has grit.!!!

There's a 2009 version of Leppard performing at the Download Festival (formerly Donnington), and Joe Elliott had re-introduced Rick to the new generation of fans as he was mentioning about the festival and how it meant to them because they've first performed there back in 86, also he mentioned how Rick fought his way back to overcome his obstacles, and it was just as riveting as it was back in 1986 but the only thing is I was able to watched it on VH1 Classics (I was in diapers back in 86), and Rick was tearing up behind the drum kit as the fans enchanting Rick's name. That man inspired me to become a drummer, and I've been playing since I was 21 and now I'm 35.

@@DefLeppardUK - there's been a bit of a myth about it over the years, hasn't there, but you're right, the only time Rick was introduced was during "Travelling' Band" - having said that, we were bloody loud when he was introduced!

@@aylabillick Yeah, I ended up "finding" that later on. Had to look hard for it though, as the crowd reaction was nothing close to what he said it was. Fake story, but DL still rules!

@@SteveKasianyeah All those years they told that story was before they knew that RUclips would come out. Maybe they had a romantic memory of. The thing is if he did introduce him in between songs in a more formal way like he has done since, I have no doubt he would have gotten that amazing ovation.
Now I have to go back and find the interviews where they talk about this because I definitely think Def Leppard has contributed to the misremembering of this introduction

@@SteveKasian funny. If you actually listen the crowd reaction goes on for quite a while, it just moved from the front the back I think. But it definitely was a decent cheer, certainly compared to other cheering during the show...

@@MasterDownUnder I actually noticed that after listening to it just then! I never noticed that beforehand.
