@Spencer Reed That's an illusion. God chooses whom He wills and to believe that we can understand the wisdom behind all of His decisions is arrogance. To doubt or deny His wisdom is pure folly.

Well put, it is very important to understand that there is Mercy and Love and there is Justice. This is the balanced, true approach. Islam is the middle way between the law of the Old Testament and the love of the New Testament. I would add to the subject if I may, that Allah swt told us that if He wills He can forgive us the transgressions of His haq (right) which would be the religious duties bestowed upon us but our transgressions of other peoples haq ( right) the injustices that we do to other people can be forgiven only by them if they wish so.

If any of my Christian friends feel that Allah is not loving, check the concept of God in the old testament. God in the old testament is like a father who rebuke his children (ie; israelites) for their mistakes and corrects them only because He love them and want to purify them from sins. Love and fear of God goes hand in hand, very similar to what Islam says.
Allah loves and Haights. And the decision will be by his justice. Because love does not happen to Allah it is a decision he takes
