  • While on tour for her excellent new album Reckless Skyline, singer-songwriter Caitlin Canty stopped by the Acoustic Guitar offices to play three songs on her 1930s Recording King guitar and talk about her recent move to Nashville.
Watch Canty, joined by pedal steel and guitar player Eric Heywood (Ray LaMontagne's Pariah Dogs, Tift Merritt, The Pretenders), perform "Get Up," "I Never," and "Southern Man."
Canty also shares how she went from wanting a new Gibson J-45 to picking up a vintage Recording King and falling in love with the way it complements her vocal range.
"This guitar inspired a lot of the songs," says Canty, referring to her new album. "It felt like co-writes."

These songs are all magic, I have been a big fan of Joni Mitchell for years I've always considered her to be my favourite singer/songwriter of all time. For years I have wondered if there willl ever be anyone else to compare to Joni. Caitlin is that person. I love everything she does. I hope like Joni she has a long succesful career. 💗💗💗

Caitlan Canty... The wife I always wanted (but never got). In my eyes, one of the most beautiful women in the entire world. Great voice too! God bless ya' Caitlan (and you too Noam!). Press on and make more beautiful music!

I've been listening to Caitlin for 5 years now, she has become one of my favorite singer-songwriters. She has a real talent for taking a song in unexpected directions... and her choices are brilliant. It's hard to be noticed when you are not a powerhouse singer... I love the way she sneaks up on a song with unusual timing choices and silky soft dynamics.

Awakening to a new artist and a new song is a treasured gift for every soul. Thank you Caitlin for making my day and giving me one more "gift" that I too can share.

Caitlin, this one was inspired by your last song, Southern Man.

      Lay Me Down in Nashville
      by Pat Alaggio
      March 11, 2017
      Lay me down in Nashville
      Where the music never ends
      Where all the sounds blend
      Growing tired of being alone
Writing songs but no one’s at home
Without roots I’ve been turning to stone
I long to lay me down where music fills the night
To drift off to sleep where I can dream of another time
a place where love abounds and everything rhymes
It’s too cold in this forsaken Northeastern town
Where twenty years of my life have been written down
a lonely place where music hardly makes a sound
Maybe it’s time to lay me down in Nashville
at least someplace where the music never ends
I long for a place where life makes sense
For now I’ll write and sing these songs alone
In a town that has never taken me as their own
Where songs are written, sung and danced alone
      Home remains a distant dream
      Someplace I may never be
Home is a prayer I sing for me
      Lay me down in Nashville
      Where the music never ends
Where all the sounds seem to blend

Would you mind telling us what camera, mics, recording equipment, etc. you use to make the RUclips videos?I play the guitar and sing as well, however, I'm not having much luck creating a good music video. So any information you could share would be most appreciated. Many thanks!!!GT

Love the maritime feel and harmony was great but mic balance needs adjusting. The true passion for music is on her face like light is on the sun. Her guitar compliments her voice rather than her voice accommodating her guitar.
