- Reviewing ColorOS 13, the beta version of Oppo's latest Android launcher, including some of the best new features and updated options packed inside. Here's a side-by-side of ColorOS 13 vs 12.1 on the Oppo Find X5 Pro, including a brief guide to the rollout schedule and which devices are getting it first.
From an early hands-on, it seems that version 13 is more of a gentle upgrade over the previous version than a full-on evolution. The Always On Display is one of the biggest improvements, with direct Spotify control and a selection of new options. ColorOS 13 also includes new wallpapers, including a Blossom effort that makes you aware of your screen-on time that day.
Oppo has also improved the notifications bar/control center, which has improved media controls. There's a bold new font running throughout and spruced-up animations for the likes of the clock app. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Color OS 13 is also designed to keep apps open for longer and ensure your privacy stays strong.
That's my early review of this new Oppo launcher based on Android 13. What do you think are the best new features, and are you happy with what you're seeing?

I have read somewhere on many of oppo's confusing roll out posts. That the beta is now out, but select countries. The UK not being one of them... Can anyone clarify. Teasing us with a UK reviewer for software we won't see for a while? Took til spring 2022 for me to get IOS 12...
How's the animations on the apps? I know some apps are super finiky (60 fps on RUclips, always inconsistent on Instagram, etc.)

Oxygen is nowhere near as good as coloros.not even remotely close. I owned a one plus and great phone and great os but nowhere near as good as my find x. It's very one sided.

This is a question of semantics. No software skin can beat Color OS when it comes to stability and customizations/personalisation. On the other hand, Oxygen OS up until last year was the best android skin. PERIOD. Unparalleled smoothness and responsiveness along with very very few bugs (well,I've used oneplus 7T Pro, 8,8 Pro and Nord 2...I guess on certain models there a few bugs but noone van beat Xiaomi and especially Samsung in that regard!).
Anyway, my point was Oxygen OS has completely become Color OS now. And I mean completely.

Still waiting on an update for my x5 pro. Its sad that only some regions can join the beta not including my country. So i'll probably have to wait on a stable update in a few months

Using Find X6 pro, missing notifications on outlook and teams. Plus the self-pick ringtone can't play more than 5 seconds. Skin is nice but communication is more important.
I just updated to this from 11 and 12.. seems fine so far but I'm not sure if this might have introduced some hidden bloat..

I have found the last 2 color os upgrades have significantly increased the time my Reno 4 pro 5g 12gig phone takes to power up.

And if you can remove bloatware you can't but in EU the bloatware can be removed
@@RuthlessAfro4692 That's a lame justification. Most people care for faster boot times (i.e. bothered by slow boot times), from their computer to laptops to smartphones. The OP hasn't specified exactly how more slower it is, but as long as it isn't significantly slower I'll admit it won't be that much of a problem.
@@DogeFrom2014 you boot up your computer or laptop daily, however I reboot my phone maybe once a month, so no worries there if it takes a few seconds longer tbh

Can someone tell me why mine doesn't have the feature of having enlarged folders? I am using the Oppo A95 and the reason I updated my system device was because of that but turns out my phone don't have it kinda disappointed tho☹️

Hello can you do a tutorial on how to enable to personalize always on display. Because my coloros 13 android 13. Oppo reno 8z there's no option to personalize like bitmoji etc. Is just only a clock time that's all
Try to go to apps > app management > 3 dots at bottom right > show system apps
Now search for aod and clear it's cache and storage
Opted for the X5 recently after a long time wondering where to go post huawei. Delighted.

It seems like a lot of nothing really. Giving the user an option to customise physical buttons would be good. The only way to take a screenshot of through the little slide out tab, but when you're on a game the tab loses the screenshot option. Taking a screenshot can't be added to a physical button which is odd.
no need when you have swipe gesture for taking screenshot. In ColorOS, its 3 finger swipe to take a full screenshot and press and hold with 3 fingers to take partial screenshot. Even Samsung took inspiration from this(or to burn the sammy fans copied/stole it from ColorOS) and added 2 finger swipe screenshot and slide up to open in floating window(which already existed in ColorOS from COS 12)

When I bought my Oppo it didn't have coloros, my phone just updated with it today and now the fingerprint feature for biometric login doesn't work anymore. Can't even go into the settings and try to reconfigure as it won't allow me to. Wtf... Has anyone else had this issue?
nope. I am using the beta version of colorOS 13 on my K10. I have just found some small bugs and missing features(which were stated in the log i will get), but there's no issues with biometrics
Oppo just pushed Android 12 (ColorOS 12) to my 3yo Reno 10x Zoom. I don't think I'd be missing much in version 13.
They give 2 (or 3) major Android updates to Reno phones, so it's highly unlikely for your phone to get Android 13.

I just got the x3 Pro (CPH2173) from ebay which is on Android / ColorOS 11 and will not update beyond this. As far as I can tell, it is a UK device.
Why isn't it updating beyond 11 and if it can go to 13, how?

I got the update a couple of days ago and to be honest I found more things they changed that bother me than things that I like, nothing really important but to me coloros has rather been a downgrade than an upgrade
Really liking this, color os is so much better than oxygen os. Oxygen OS was so lacking in features even tho it was blasing fast.

1:27 would be better if holding simply enlarged it instead of showing options. Then having setting to remove folder to be inside. No idea why they didn't do that tbh. Doubt anyone will use it as it's much quicker to just open it
it's just an option colorOS is giving. Whether people will use it or not depends on them not the work of colorOS to think of.

Exactly. I have the find x2 pro which 2.5 yrs old now but I'm on the latest version of color os 12 and latest security patch. Got android 12 within 2 to get months of it being released. Fixed alot of the bugs I was having with the phone ( bugs weren't even horrible in the first place) . So I cn attest to the improvements of color os since color os 11
@@apexheat6553 I' m also an Oppo Find X2 Pro user. It is currently on F19 July 2022 Security patch. I got the handset Sept 2020 and have been quite pleased with it, occasionally the camera has issues focusing.
Hopefully, this update is not too far behind the Pixel version of Android 13.
I like the new AOD features. The Blossom Wallpaper is a bit gimmicky and will probably drain the battery quicker
@@aideyp7333 yup I'm on the same security update aswell. Will probably get the August one soon. But android 12 butchered how the camera works. That was probably the worst part of the update. I don't take pictures that much but it's still sad what they did with the camera. Still usable tho.
And yh I'm not going use any live wallpaper type stuff because I love to maintain my battery lol.
@@apexheat6553 yeah using the zoom has been made more fiddly and camera can be hit and miss.
The battery is its weakness and probably the reason why they haven't engaged high frame rate gaming on it.
I'm pleased that Oppo has given it three years of major OS updates and according to the provisional roadmap, it'll be from December onwards for the Find X2 Pro

it will be in the extra section of camera, your features aren't gonna vanish with an update unless there's some bug with the beta version you received or your phone's security is compromised and has allowed the bug to arrive from the sus websites you visit

That's there since ColorOS 12 lol and you get the option to choose the colors manually from the wallpaper. It's in personalisations section

What I did notice is a significant drop in selfie camera quality in low light, even with the flash on

most probably no. If it reaches then it will be probably next year. Meanwhile check about device>system update>Trial version
being able to see and control your media while the screen is off isnt a function its standard for every other brand - not locked to spotify!
