- Billie Holiday’s story is not one for the faint of heart. From the very beginning, turmoil, racism, and a deep inner sadness plagued her life-and haunted her until the very end. But at the same time, she had a fighting spirit and a voice like no other. From adversity to scandal to the bitter and heartbreaking end-there’s little doubt that Billie deserved a lot better than what the world gave her.

Billie Holiday has never ever been tainted by her drug use, for example, as Elvis has been. No. She is remembered for her incredible talent. And, that’s what she deserves.
What a sad life. Abusive men, substance abuse, racism, persecution by the law. That's too heavy a burden for anyone to carry, no matter how resilient you are, no matter how talented. RIP, Billie, in the arms of the angels.
Singularly the most haunting voice in classic jazz. A tragic life…an incredible legacy.
💯 still get chills when I play her music ❤️
On the other hand she is remembered in history, more than most of us will achieve.
She was so beautiful.
I was introduced to Billies music as a little girl. Her voice is amazing! My all-time favorite song is "Good Morning Heartache."
The drugs took over and destroyed her But not her legacy, which remains untouchable
She was blues. Way ahead of her time, a couple decades later she’d have been a superstar.
Tragic life. Wished she had bn born much later n life. Her life might had bn longr and bettr. Sad. Such wonderful talent.
Such a tragic life she endured. Great channel! 👏
I can only imagine how many hits "Strange Fruit" will get out of this video. May The Good Lord bless you for sharing Billie Holiday with us. I'm so sorry that she had such a hard life.
"Strange Fruit" is a terribly haunting song.
Sad life and drug addiction was treated badly back then .
Very
I did not know this story, although of course I had heard of Ms. Holiday. Very sad. She had very little happiness and peace in her life. I hope that she has found it now.
The picture is of Billie and Ella. Not Sadie
The pictures shown of her mother Sadie look like Ella Fitzgerald.
So true…. I actually thought it was Ella Fitzgerald.🤷♀️
It IS Ella Fitzgerald
once again your presentation is perfect, for me anyways, lots of interesting info, on an interesting subject condensed to 20 minutes. love it! 👍🏼
Lady Day 🌸
I love her so much, great singer
Made my heart bleed 😭 such a horrible life for such a talent. Thank you Billie.😢❤
She was an awesome singer! Diana Ross played her in Lady sings the blues. Great movie! With Billy Dee Williams! ✌🏼😊
But the movie is so different than the real life story. Interesting new insight from this bio
@@paulamalone1382 Did you see the movie? I have watched it a couple of times. Have a great day! ✌🏼😊
The movie most definitely “white washed” her story. Mostly, Louis was portrayed as being a wonderful husband and didn’t convey the deep depth of the tragedy of her life.😂
@@carmenpalenske6685 You are correct. I didn’t know the extent of the tragedy in her life until doing some research myself. Have a great day! ✌🏼😊
Unfortunate that Louis McKay not only cheated her in life, but in death too!
After Billie died, McKay was her sole beneficiary - she died intestate.
He went on to marry a couple of times and had a son Louis III
He was married but living apart from his estranged wife Bernice when he died on March 10, 1981.
In his will he left 20% of his assets to his wife Bernice, and 80% to his son Louis III.
He had also been collecting Billie's royalties for 21½ years.
When Louis died, Billie's royalties went to 2 unknown people, his son Louis III and Bernice his 3rd wife.
When Bernice died in 2021, she had collected a full 40 years of Billie's royalties! 😡
RIP Billie / Muzik = Life
She was treated so horribly by so many people. Hopefully, the majority of those have found themselves down below, in the special hell reserved just for them. Especially the racists. I have been a fan of Billie Holiday since I was a teenager, and that was a very long time ago. The haunting melody and lyrics to Strange Fruit will continue to raise the goose- bumps on my arms as it has always done. What bothers me most however, is that the US seems hell-bent on returning to those times, when racism and hate was out of control. We have Trump to thank for all of that in the USA. Ms. Holiday saw the worst of humanity in so many varied ways. Lucky for us, she used those experiences to write many of the lyrics in her songs. It is not hard at all to understand why she turned to 'substances' to get her through. I don't blame her one bit, nor will I look down on her for it. She did what she had to to survive. Life was never easy for Billie. I can only hope that her story resonates with the younger crowd and especially with younger Americans. Do we really want to go back to the days that Billie had to endure through? WWII days, full of hate for your neighbour and hate for everyone else? Let's not do that again.
Fascinating woman, thanks.
I wonder what happened to Billie Holiday’s daughter
Rip, Irena cara, too.❤
Great channel but needs to hire professional narrators. Imagine a hospital unwilling to treat you because of your race and dying as a consequence, America's history is disgusting!
I like the Scottish guy’s accent a lot!
any voice is better than AI….
15:10 You left out John levey. He is one that got her in 1948 when she got out of jail. She Got with McKay after Levey. People never get her story right.
She had many fans
In her life time just
Listen to the live
recording. And hear the audience
She also influenced many other singers
Frank Sinatra was a big fan of hers
And she taught him
How to phrase the lyrics. If you are going to tell. Do the research and tell it correctly. When she got out of jail she took the train back to NYC. And she scored drugs in D.C
So she started using
As soon as she got out of Alderson federal prison in Va
The narrator has a train to catch.....
It was a decent video but Billie Holiday never had children
She had to constantly fight but that’s because of her very very very poor choices she made in life. She brought it on herself. 🤷♀️
Factinate, This made me laugh so much! Thanks for sharing!
Laugh?
I saw nothing funny! She was a wonderful singer and I listen to her quite often as I have her and Freddie Mercury and David Bowie's music on my phone!
🤕🤕🤕?
Were you going for sarcastic humor? If so, your attempt fell flat and came off as very disrespectful.
I don't believe the OP meant this to be funny and disrespectful about the subject, Billie Holiday, but laughable about the narrator's delivery of the story as it was like one long, 20 minute sentence without coming up for a breath of air.
No...she sung strange fruit because she was traveling & had to go to the bathroom upon walking in a country area she saw a man who was lynched the night before.
7:54 maga / mania lineage.
Mr Factinate don't you love making money off the suffering of others! how about a happy video? but no you love the suffering of others don't you!
Why watch then😂
