Mawsynram for Solo Flute is named after a city in Northeastern India which is reportedly the wettest place on earth, averaging 467.4 inches (11,872 millimeters) of rainfall annually. Indonesian composer Irene Tanuwidjaja mentions that she wrote this piece during the heavy rainy season in her hometown, and intended it to be an impressionistic reflection of that time.
