This video hit home. Tubong Murphy Cubao ako, nagkaisip sa 15th Ave./Mirasol St. Attended 15th Ave Elementary School. St. Joseph was our church. Farmer's, Q-Mart, and Murphy were our to go markets. I went to Immaculate Concepcion Parish School in Lantana. Nilalakad lang namin from 15th Ave. to Ali Mall, and Isetan noon. Kakilala ng father ko yung mga security guards sa Ali Mall kaya siya nakapanood ng libre ng laban ni Ali 😅😅😅 Fiesta Carnival was a blast.
Years ago, we started a group on FB in which we were able to get a hold of our old Cubao neighbors. And we regularly heard new of our former neighbors who passed 😢 It was a sad group. But Cubao and its people have a special place in our hearts.
I went back earlier this year just to wander around, and though the place is still their, it isn't the same 😢
I'm sorry I'm all over. I miss the old times and the people. 😞
And dear stranger, if you're teary about your childhood, I'm crying with you.

First time ko makapanood dyan sa Araneta Coliseum way back 1966 yata yun nung dumating ang the Searchers, pinaka-favorite song ko nila ay Sweet for my Sweet.
Yes po Sur Fern.jan sa Cubao ang unang pasyalan nang lahat nun.1980's ako pinanganak.pagpumupunta nang Maynila jan sa Cubao ang pasyalan namin nun.naalala ko yang Fiesta Carnival .malulula ka sa daming mga guato mung masakyan na rides jan..pati ang Farmers Mall na pinupuntahqn na mag shopping.yang Rustan napasok namin kado mga High End ang itinitinda kaya dka makabili jan.Haist...mga alaala na lang.Thanks Sir Fern

I remember 1989, sobra ang hype ng Batman movie...ginawang "Batman city" yung Araneta compound.
Everywhere you put ur eyes on, puro Batman ads makikita mo.
Salamat sa pag share ng video na 'to sir Fern. Palagi ko itong kinukwento sa mga anak ko kung gaano ka magical ang place na to para sa aming magkakapatid. Iba ang memories na binigay nito sa amin nung kami ay lumalaki. Ang COD, and Fiesta Carnival at syiempre and Ali Mall. Napakasayang alalahanin lalong lalo na kapag pasko at bubuksan na ang ilaw sa higanteng christmas tree sa may Araneta Colesium. Hanggang ngayon e lagi pa din kaming dumadaan dito kung may pagkakataon.

My dad and i went to fiesta carnival when i'm was younger maybe 4 yrs old, lagi kong sinasakyan lahat ng mga rides dati don. at minsan kasama ko mga pinsan ko galing USA. Nakakamiss. tss pagnapagod nako kakasakay ng rides, kakain naman kami sa jollibee. Nakakamiss ang nakaraan, miss ko na kabataan ko. Sana ibalik nila yung fiesta carnival para naman maexperienced din ng mga ibang kabataan na di na naabutan ang lumang fiesta carnival.
Hi Fern thanks for sharing this!. Grabe no Fiesta Carnival dami ko memories dyan lagi kaming pnapasyal noon ng nanay ko and syempre COD lalo na inaabngan yung dancing statues na nilipat sa greenhils after. Nakakamiss ang simpleng kabataan natin noon.
Noong araw meron kaming kinakainan na Aristocrat dyan sa Cubao, facing Edsa. They used to serve sa car, ilalagay sa window yung tray, parang mga diner restaurants.
Madalas kami pinapasyal ng parents namin sa cubao. Tambay n rin kasi kami jan because my mother used to work in Rustans. Kung hindi kami sa fiesta carnival dati sa cinema 21 kami habang hinihintay si mother. Farmer's market was such a heaven for us because we feel na kumpleto yung mga items dun. Plaza fair also offers affordable items. The last time I went there was when i was still in college para manood ng pba. Gusto ko pa sanang bumalik jan kaso mahirap n ang transportation and ma traffic n😅
Hanggang ngayon tuwing pag sapit ng December, naalala ko ang Cubao.. dyan kami madalas mamasyal tuwing palapit na ang pasko..

2 corrections: New Frontier Cinema opened in February 1967 (not May as you claim) with "Miss WawWaw" and then Italian film, "Casanova ;70." Also #2, you forgot the first ICE SKATING RINk open to the Pinoy public also opened in late 1967 where the Manhattan Condo Towers now stand. It lasted less than a year, and then on October 4, 1968, the Aranetas converted it to the Nation Cinerama (the 2nd Cinerama theater in the RP). Those are my teenage memories of Cubao then; including the A&W Root Beer franchise.

Hello Fern! The first part of your video brings back a lot of good memories. Back in the mid 70s, I used to bring my girlfriend who is now my wife to a restaurant on the first floor of Araneta Coliseum called Pinausukan. And sarap ng pagkain. Going further back in time, my parents used to bring us to the Coliseum to watch the circus. Like you said, we were living a simpler life then, We live in the U.S now since in the early 80s and it's all but good memories thinking about our life there. Keep vlogging and I will keep watching!

Meron concerts dyan sa Araneta Coliseum noon early 1960’s. Dyan ko napanood ang concerts ng mga international singers katulad nina Matt Monro, Everly Brothers, at Dave Clark Five.
Kahit saan sulok ng pilipinas kilala un cubao i remember 9 yrs plng ako Early 90 dto sa zambales pinaguusapan ng tyahin ko un cubao na gusto nila makita un cubao mkpg trabaho parang dating sakin nun parang iba bansa un cubao

Hi Sir Fern...Cubao is our pasyalan in my younger years when Makati (Ayala) wasn't the popular commercial center then... I remember my late father would bring the whole family for (eat-out) to Ming's restaurant, Chocolate house, Rickshaw and Aling Nena's bibingka which i think it'was adjacent to COD dept store .We usually go to COD for shopping and watch the extravagant Christmas display. There was a shoe store inside Farmers named "Lady L" where there is "live manequin" performing like a moving doll to our delight....
Anyway, thanks Sir Fern for bringing us to this new place to check and also allowing us to reminisce the olden times.

Since we lived in Gilmore our go to place to shop ..see movies …go to the market is in the Cubao Center….it is also there where we would go To watch Bert Nievera In a club in Cubao..
Araneta City today is not just entertainment. Madaming offices diyan. May isang company relocated to Araneta City from BGC kasi
1. Mahal ang rent sa BGC and
2. Easier access to Public Transportation. Sobrang hirap magcommute sa BGC. Sa Cubao, madaming bus terminal, may MRT LRT pa!

Missed your "Noon at Ngayon" vlog Fern ☹️ Truly ALL what you said about the simple life before especially our childhood days. Cubao and Manila are has been part of my life since childhood until my early retirement in work. It's kind of sad and missed seeing those old photos 😢 coz' there's a lot of happy memories has been flashback and for me nothing can compare the TRUE happiness in life before 😞 ❤ this vlog 👌

Thank you for this feature. Maybe you should mention those who will be able to recall the Old Cubao like from those born from 1960s-1990s (not just 1970s-1990s) as they are surely the ones to be able recall all these that were mainstays in old Cubao. Sana maisama sa next updated feature the other mainstays ie Shoe Mart (na original shoe store before it became a full product line SM Department Store); also what happened to Marikina Shoe Expo (where it was reduced after part of its area became the provincial bus terminal now?); where Jollibee was originally opened as a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor; where the first Tropical Hut Hamburger branch was also opened in Cubao; the first Shakeys Pizza Parlor branch in Ali Mall; where was the Chew Chew Junction located (beside SM Cubao, near Automatic Center), a train-themed resto famous for its meaty spaghetti and rich milkshakes. Just some memorable places I recall being born in the late 60s and saw Cubao in its splendor during the 70's-80's before it lost its glitter for a time in the mid 90's. Good job in tickling our memories to reminisce the best years of our lives.

From the old photos Manila looked less populated n less congested.. cleaner too.... ..of course this area has always catered to the well to do..... this is the side u show to the tourist.....not the millions of slums that surround the capital...... and sadly malls aren't really needed.....the Philippines has many....so i consider this a waste of money...... the people need decent housing not malls they can't afford to shop at.....
