    Here in Texas oak tree suffer from Oak Wilt. After trimming limbs of oaks spray the cut end with black spray paint to seal out the possibility of spread of oak wilt. If you find out there is oak wilt do not burn the cuttings on your property. It may cause the spread of the oak wilt disease

    I just got the same cage a couple of weeks ago, haven't put it together yet. ("Some Assembly Required" LOL) Using a chainsaw on a ladder is for the birds! I may leave that top section of cage off mine though, to make it easier to get around fruit tree limbs while pruning. Don't tell the safety police! I do have a full body harness and lanyard I can latch onto the cage to keep me from falling to far though. Going to have to dry up around here for me to do anything with a tractor.m

    I have no experience with Live Oak, but I do have 20 acres of Red Oak in Michigan. Around here, once the limb dies, the fungus moves in to decompose the tree. That is the normal rotting profile. My oaks rot from the outside in once they die. Seems like about 1/2 an inch per year depending on how soon the park falls off and whether it is standing or fallen. The amount of available moisture is key to the rot rate. Check to see if you have the same fungus on the healthy limbs. If it is only on the dead ones, I personally wouldn't worry about it. But check with your local extension office to be sure.

    A little tip from a fellow Floridian, if you'll spray paint the end of the tree where you cut you'll protect the the tree from army ants and other insects. As far as the lichen, don't worry about it has a simbiotic relationship with the tree and won't harm live wood.

      When we first moved here 3 years ago it was so overgrown we had to rent a forestry mulcher. We rented the bobcat and the head from the local rental company and I want to say it was like $1,500 for the weekend. But we got it on a Friday afternoon and they picked it up on Monday afternoon so we got 3 full days out of it and cleared a ton. I would recommend renting one for the weekend if you have a lot to do. That might be oak wilt, a lot of it is going around in the hill country of Texas. You need to treat the cut to keep it from spreading. Also clean your chain saw before cutting anymore trees that are not infected. Just a guess.

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  4 года назад

      Ah! Good point about cleaning chain. Didn't think of that. Thanks 👍

  • @groundupexcavation
    @groundupexcavation 4 года назад

    I think it’s just cause the limb is dead, I’ve seen a lot of oaks like that but there still big and healthy. Idk of you have many pine trees around, but watch out for pine beetles. You’ll have little holes and what looks like saw dust around the holes if I remember right. And to my knowledge the only way to get rid of those is cut the tree and burn it, otherwise they’ll spread to other pines.

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  4 года назад

      Roger. It may be that. I need to google the symptoms. Thanks for the comment!

  • @MikeDPlxztc
    @MikeDPlxztc 4 года назад

    Just like the Chicken and the Egg the question is what came first the fungus or the dead branch🙄 when it comes to trimming you should always make more vertical cuts Like the gentleman said below you don't want water pooling up in that cut later on and don't get too close to the trunk if you can help it leave a little to heal also I always spray black spray paint over fresh cuts keep bugs out until the wound heals. I'm sure there are plenty of other substances that would work for this and if you really care for the tree go back and cover it again in a while because that first coat will soak in and wear off.

    I would cut the limbs closer to the tree.
    I try to pay attention to where the end of the bar is at all times. You cut into the tree when cutting the first branch. That can make the saw kick back.
    I would've got out from between the trees when that last limb was falling so you didn't get hit and pinched between the limb and one of the other trees.
    Hold on tighter when the woman moves the loader up and down. One quick movement the wrong direction and you will be flopping around like a fish out of water. Haha!
    I'm not harping on you I was just trying to help.
    That Titan basket is cool. I'm going to check it out on their website right now.
