The fact that you can put him down drowsy but awake *and* he mostly sleeps through the night already is really good. You’re doing great! There is no one size fits all. Do what works best for you and your baby.
I’ve been a nanny for like 18 years. I’ve had my fair share of babies. My current family I’ve been with for 4.5 years. I’ve naturally sleep trained these 2 kiddies for naps. I never did someone else’s schedule, I’ve always just scheduled them based on their sleepiness and wakefulness. Definitely keep helping him learn to go back to sleep after his sleep cycle. If he were my nanny baby, I’d think about switching him from 4 naps to 3. If he’s having a hard time going down for a nap it might be bc he’s not tired enough. You’re doing great and he’s so cute!
My babe is 7mo, I tried really hard to stick to the moms on call schedule around 1-3months, it was hard and each day felt like a battle (even tho babe was sleeping amazing at night). I personally was grasping for control where I could find it. Things felt better for me when I let go of those expectations. I know it doesn’t feel like it at 12 weeks, but they really are still so young :’) give yourself grace, you’re doing amazing!!
Me and my son love watching your videos. We did ivf and hes 8 weeks old now so its helpful to see someone who's closer in age! :) he starts giggling when i put your videos on. ❤
My daughter is 12 weeks old and we are doing the exact same thing !! I am so struggling with naps omg Thank you for your video I loved it, you are such an inspiration
Rachel you’re doing great. I noticed a world of difference for our son when I started paying more attention to wake windows than a certain schedule. Taking Cara babies is a fantastic resource for wake windows throughout stages and things to look for when they are ready to drop a nap. I would also offer a contact nap if he had a short nap or rough night it can help them catch up. If you feel up to it sometimes getting things done while they nap on you in the carrier is a fantastic way to do it. You might also want to try the halo transition sleep sacks. They have swaddle flaps so you can try different configurations to ease them into the sleep sacks if he went from a tight swaddle to a very loose sleep sack it might be a hard transition for him all on its own.
Hey girl hey 🤗🤗🤗🤗 I love that you are doing so good with your baby boy being a first time mama,, I'm very proud of you 😊😊,,, just remember he is newborn and then the little milestones,, I'm a mama of two girls I'm just speaking from me,, please, please just enjoy him being little 💜💚🖤💚🖤,, they grow up so fast and it's sad once they are grown and ur looking around like huhhhhhhh,,😅😅,, I am 45,,, and they are girls 20,,,,17,,,,& I am shooketh,,my mama heart 💗💗 hurts,,, please 🥺🥺🥰 let him be a baby and y'all love him to pieces,, Jesse is a beautiful, precious baby boy I am so proud of you even though I don't know you 😂😊
I am watching your video while waiting to connect my son’s nap😂. I started to use moms on call schedule again after watching your video, It works for me! Also, not sure if you would like to try this, but what I found out was that if you try to pat him when he started to move before he cries or is fully awake, it will be easier to connect the nap! Contact sleep is also nice cuz I felt the baby and I were connecting more in that way! ❤ We have made a few progresses after trying some tips you shared in your video. Please keep trying different things and share with us!! 😊
My daughter was also a 30 minute napper. That only fixed when we sleep trained her at 5 months! The day we sleep trained her she started napping 1.5+ hours. I think she just didn’t know how to connect her sleep cycles and sooth herself back to sleep, it’s very common I hear! Thanks for sharing the reality of a lot of mamas.
I am nodding YES to this entire video happy😁 **and your past few videos as well honestly, ha. I am right there with you girl and feel very relatable to your content and baby stages! My baby girl is 2 months old and she's sleeping well through the night as well as those short 30min naps in the day ha I feel like they are good babies for sleeping through the nigh at least! 👏🏼You are doing GREAT
Literally my son will be 12 weeks this week and I have loved following your videos as a first time mama myself! Love the authenticity of you and your videos!
Great video the people judgin I don’t think watched the whole thing you clearly ended up holding him not letting him cry it out you were just seeing if he might fall back asleep which the only way to Find out is by seeing what happens You are doing great!!
My daughter took 30 minute naps starting at 4 months old. Only way I could get her to sleep longer was contact napping. She's almost 2 and only now sleeps an hour on her one nap a day. Her doctor said it's totally normal and it can suck as a parent but as long as they aren't acting exhausted or anything, that's just how long they nap
We did contact naps the first 5 months 😅🫠. But pls don’t feel bad if he doesn’t connect sleep cycles during naps! I followed huckleberry and i believe their naps don’t consolidate until around 5 months. Short naps are (unfortunately) normal & you’re doing a great job ❤
If your encourage tummy time on the floor during the first wake window it will help him truly be tired. You are doing great by not picking him up when he fusses after sleeping a short time and if you continue doing this instead of the extended contact naps he will put himself back to sleep. It will seem like he's crying more as you transition which is completely normal. Once he realizes that the crying does not result in the contact nap he will decrease the crying and this association with crying to get comforted will become extinct. It will be hard because he has this association now but he is a very smart boy and he will figure it out.
30 minute naps are totally normal at this stage! My daughter did that for a month or two even while sleeping through the night. It just takes them until 4-5 months to connect those daytime sleep cycles.
My baby girl is 11 weeks old, we are also doing Moms On Call! She has also just started sleeping through the night and sometimes has her full nap in her own but most of the time we only get a good 30- 45 minutes. So, thank you for sharing your experience! It helps me feel less alone in this never ending sleep journey as a new mom!! lol
Rachel you’re doing amazing. These comments are so freaking annoying my god. Everyone, mind your own business. She’s doing great and he’s clearly doing great too.
Someone told me that no matter how well we think we are parenting our kids, they will still, at some point in their lives, need counselling because of us. Because we parent the way we think we need to and not according to what they need. How do we know if they want to cuddle or go swim outside?! Everyone just thinks they know everything. Do you, Rachel. Your personality is something your son will have to live with and he will love you no matter what. My son is 6 months old now, a perfect little boy and whenever I feel like I am watching too many youtube videos, or turning to too many books for advice, I have to stop myself and pray over my little boy. Because no matter how many mistakes we are making, he will always have Jesus to take care of him first, that perfect love, even more than ours. And my bible has more answers than any parenting book has. You’re doing great! Never perfect, but great! ❤ I hope you continue to enjoy your little angel. And thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Lol at some of these comments…you’re doing great mama. My babe is 10 weeks and you gotta do what you gotta do to soothe them. It isn’t possible to contact nap every minute of the day.
I saw in your last vlog about the water mat and was thinking about Vinny. Lord knows a water mat wouldn’t last a day in my house with my cat… then to read your caption about Vinny popping it!! 😅 gotta love cats
Love this video ❤ I have a 10 week old who only naps 30 min as well but is not on any schedule and now I’m wondering if I should try a schedule? She doesn’t nap as much as she used to during the day but is starting to have 3-4 hour stretches at night. I’ve just been following her cues but I also would like some routine especially with going back to work soon
You don’t have to entertain your baby! Baby wear him or have him next to you while you do things like laundry, washing dishes, doing your makeup. I strongly recommend reading Hunt, Gather, Parent. You’ll learn about how other cultures parent and raise their children. It will change your entire perspective of parenting and make it so much easier and less stressful.
My baby did! She started sleeping through the night at 2 months, no sleep training at all. I always say that she sleep trained herself. I just got lucky.
I really enjoy your videos, especially now that I have my second baby and she's 4 months old.😊 The only thing that makes me go "wow! 😨 Stop it!" - is how hard to beat up your little ones bum. Who is that crazy person who taught you that?! Seriously 😳 that is one of the possible problems with kidneys later on...and that is definitely not a good method for soothing. Please, be gentle to him 🙏🏻
Why is he not just being held and cuddled when he needs it? He is 12 (!!!!!!) weeks. He already sleeps through the night completely alone, then he has to put himself to sleep for his naps, also alone and when he wakes up you expect him to cry himself back to sleep again all alone? This is really really sad
First of all, it’s not detrimental to be put down for a few hours while they sleep during the day. She obviously holds him a lot, and she needs to get things done around the house too. All these people freaking out about not holding your baby 24/7 either don’t have kids, or never get anything done and eventually lose their minds. This new generation is so full of fear surrounding everything around babies, and it’s making the whole thing a lot more stressful than it needs to be and in turn will pass that anxiety onto your kids.
@@maddielinch2046 I have 2 kids and this is exactly why I am so shocked that this kind of "independance" is expected of such small babys. A baby can fall asleep feeling warm and loved or he can fuss/cry himself to sleep all alone for 20min. Either way would result in a 30min nap. You can get things done around the house while the baby is awake, just use the carrier.
@@melaniesix-hh6ytdo you expect moms to NEVER put their baby in the crib for a nap? Out the 4 naps of the day 2.5 of them were contact naps so I’m not sure what your point is
@@RachelVinn my kids also took their naps in the family bed alone, but I was there for them until they were sleeping. Often they would fuss, but I never left them alone. They slept just fine when they were mature enough.
The fact that you can put him down drowsy but awake *and* he mostly sleeps through the night already is really good. You’re doing great! There is no one size fits all. Do what works best for you and your baby.

Thankyou for keeping it real regarding his naps! You’re doing an amazing job, Rachel!
