OMG! Fran! It's like we grew up together! I HAD a spin welder! My uncle bought it for me for Christmas, and it didn't work! It used a battery pack that (I think) used two D-cell batteries. My Dad cut the leads on it and hooked it to a six volt lantern battery, and it WORKED! Came with a kit to build a helicopter that, when finished, could be powered by the welder itself to spin the blades!

I liked your C-64 vid, I too topped out what Basic could do at the time (1980-81) all that was left was learning to hand assemble machine language and call the routines by X=usr(0) kind of stuff, poking and peeking, learning memory maps and where video memory is located to access it directly. Started with the Z-80, then the 6502, then the 8088, 8086. I wish I could have met you back then, 80's 90's. Haven't even watched all the video yet. you are the coolest lady!! Take care

THIS is a really good reminder for those people who are constantly looking to throw away anything and everything that’s cluttering up their whole house, and deemed as garbage by those who call those pack rat relatives of theirs’ ‘hoarders’: it is ALL important to someone. And everyone would choose to keep something from one random mess of kludge. THIS was really touching, really moving, Fran! I built my first pc in 1989 a clone ibm. We had circuit city, radio shack, comp USA and the death of frys. Today longest standing electronics store is micro center in Costa Mesa. Every time I go run into old timers. Our craft has been replaced with networking and more memory you can use. Tea bytes today. Remember 2megbytes. Paid $2;000. For oil company project lotus 123. Fran, you remind me of myself when I was young. I fiddled with pretty much the same things growing up. Now at age 53 now I still fiddle with electronics and other gadgets. Cool beans!

hi fran - i discovered you over the pandemic as i started watching more podcasts - love your in-depth investigations of all this cool electronix!! you make a lot of the things that i have only wished i could make (like TTL BCD counters) - and watching you go through the process of figuring it out and your explications are nicely presented, giving in-depth with history, and why things were done. so thank you for making these, and congratulations for making it all these years. hope that you will have many more years of tinkering in the franLab - youre an inspiration to figure things out and to persevere - thxu! 🙏 ⚡ 🍀

I well remember the Commodore era. I used to connect my Hallicrafters SX-71 to the Commodore 64 and receive teletype and more code signals as print on the screen.

My fellow Commodore user from high school no longer uses a Commodore, but he's an Amateur Extra and his favorite modes to decode are obsolete radiofacsimile formats from the 1920s and 1930s. It's fun to geek out with him in middle age, just like we did in middle school.
