I loved this game. I should bring it out again and take a test drive. Modern games have taken racing to unheard of heights. But for me this was the first of what would be many
I've unburied my PS2, bought me some component cable and connected the PS2 to my HD TV and this game has never looked better. It actually almost looks HD on the screen. I'm blown away and having a BLAST playing it and I think I'm already better than I was way back in 2000. One of the best racing games....period. Sure, I wish there'd be more variety in the tracks but nothing beats the gameplay and how great it feels to drive and breeze through those tracks at 60fps. I've already just beat the GALE GP and will be starting the BARON GP soon. Tough races, even on normal.
It’s still doesn’t look as good as crt tv there’s upscalers like ossc and mclassic that’s good for modern tv I never played this on ps2 but I know games I play like tenchu 3 and tekken 4 look beautiful just with component cables plus tekken 4 has progressive scan but there is some games like jak trilogy that has way to much aliasing so I want upscalers but I’m guessing from what you said ridge racer performs well on hd tv and doesn’t have much aliasing wich is good but ya crt tv the best but there are upscalers on ps2 for modern tv to make games look just as good as crt tv but those upscalers are to expensive component is a great way to start tho I’m never gonna go back to that shitty blurry mess that is composite cable
@@armorwolf7934 fyi ridge racer does have much aliasing aka jaggies. it's infamous for it actually given it was launch title and used field rendering technic. tekken tag tornmnet for instance had none, and looks awesome on crt and modern panel. but it doesn't take away how good RRV looks, if you play it on bc compatible ps3 it upscales it nicely and you can choose smoothing option
Yeah, I had inherited money from a family member who passed away when I was very young, and my dad offered to buy me a Playstation 2 with the money. When he bought it, he also bought this game. Was the first game I ever played on Playstation 2
RR6 and 7 were good and the PSP games were great. Seriously, most games in the series are ok, there is only one atrocity called Ridge Racer Unbounded but we don't talk about that...
6, 7 and the PSP games were still pretty good even if they did have oversimplified drifting physics compared to V. The franchise didn't truly start sucking until the Vita entry (or as I like to call it, "DLC: The Game") and Unbounded...
@@bluedragon9925 Exactly, I'm actually quite enjoying RR7 for the speed and beautiful tracks at 60fps. It truly is still a great looking game. But RRV's handling and feel is superior in every way. I just feel more rewarded in that game when I win those challenging races. RR7 feels much easier in comparison. Also, the boosting gets to become annoying after a while. RR4 and RRV are the two best for me. And damn does RRV still hold up graphically when connected to an HD with components. Wow.
Ah nostalgia indeed ... I remember when this PS2 launch game was released people were upset at the jagged edges "jaggies" that made it look bad compared to Sega Dreamcast which had hardware anti-aliasing (smoothing of jaggies).
i know that's supposed to be Namco, but sometimes they go over the line a bit. 76.5 MHz may make sense for the Japanese, but not for us here at the West whose FM radios can't go any lower than 88.
oww please dont tell me it's "HD" gameplay ! RR5 in one of the worst game running emulation. There is NO way to run it with enhanced internal res via PCSX2. I understand you wanted to give a try, but the best you should have done is to run it in hardware mode, with it's NATIVE aspect ration and NATIVE resolution. In fact, your gameplay video should have been twice more smooth and sharp shooting it from a capture device on the REAL hardware. I'm using emulation myself, but when it's not able to render same quality as the original or a better one, I feel it's really useless.
They're almost equal to me. RRV almost feels like an HD remake of RR1 as the courses take place in Ridge City. I'll give the edge to the original though because it was first and has this classic vibe to it that is undeniable. Has a lot to do with the soundtrack too.
rhe ps2 and this game officially turned 20 recently. time flies real fast

anyone know an emulator for ps2? Ive been using OpenEmu experimental version which includes quite a bit but no ps2
Why would you turn the BGM down, the music is one of the best parts of RR.

Fun fact: This is one of the very first PS2 games, both the game and PlayStation 2 itself were released (4 March 2000)

How did you get this running so smooth? That game has crazy texture and lighting errors under emulation
You need to play this on Software mode to fix the texture/lightning graphic bugs n use some speedhack to get better fps.
Is that what I'm noticing underneath the cars? WTF is that?!
It doesn't look like emulated. More like console on pc. XD except the shadows. Good work dude.

Shame that the emulators have the odd graphical glitches with RRV. It still holds up well.

I like Ridge Racer V
I wish they would fix the Shadows 😑 then it would be perfect. Almost like a remaster.
aaaannnddd the glitches passed the starting line
Gran Turismo? Forza? Need for Speed? Ha ha ha ha ha ha. 😂

Still better than GTA V

Not much, Jake's Productions. The only difference is the unit of measurement.
Very Nostalgic
Hearing the músic reminds me Ace combat series , Bro golden era
